Hello everybody, here some pictures of the finalized KTP. The weathering in the tracks is very subtle, just thinking on maybe putting the tank in a Diorama....will see......

Thanks for the comments on my build. An update will follow later this week.
Great job, Mirko! A beautiful king tiger. I like the subtle weathering and the hand on the front hatch. A nice touch.

Howdy
Great job Mirko. I'll have to read all the posts later to find out about the paint chipping and red primer under the zimmerit. I like the color technique for the jack, I'll have to try it if I have the materials on hand. My LHS is 220 miles away in Albuquerque.
I'm still plugging away on Nashorn and I had a question about 88mm ammo. What color? I often see shells painted brass and I sometimes see steel color. Also what will the shell casing portion look like once fired? Same color but grimy? Having never served in the military I've never been able to observe this up close. Any help is appreciated.
Y'all have a good day!

oh buddy! that porsche turreted KT is beautiful Mirko!!! the figure is just as great! I love the finishing touches, the paint chipping and dirt/grime is great.
When I look at it, it seems as though the crew is buttoning up the hatches, the commander about to slide down into the turret, he looks as though he has seen something...perhaps a few JS-2's...Thats what it looks like to me, good job!

That is great and quick work on the KT. I like the colour it evokes a menace.
A change of scale in all senses of the word now with my airfix 88
nice enough for a few pounds inc a half track.
added some wire are bracing, rivets, and the like.
a coat of humbrol 94 over a base of humbrol 68, which i'll use for paint chipping later.
i'll leave this to cure for a few days though. any obvious details i've missed?

Cool KT Mirko!!!!!!
JP keep on ing
glad to see people active in the campaign. A brass barrel is out for my Ferdinand but the seller is putting the screws to me - so I have to wait through the Paypal red tape to clear. Finishing up a Panther and Sherman in the meantime. Cheers all

Looks good, JP. I cannot see any obvious details missing - not in this small scale anyway.
Looking forward to see your chipping - I assume it is going to be a DAK 88mm?

I have made some more progress on my King Tiger for this campaign. The camouflage is finished. It took a long time as it had to be painted by brush and be build up with several thin layers to avoid/minimise streaks in the paint job.
Next is the decals, detail painting and finally some weathering. More to follow....
Comments welcome

Here is my finished 1/35 Tamiya King Tiger.
I build it as a King Tiger from 501st SS Heavy tank Battalion in Hungary in 1945. Below are some pictures of destroyed King Tigers from this Heavy tank battalion. I used the pictures as inspiration, but decided not to build any specific King Tiger from the pictures.
The model was brush painted. It took some time, but I am pretty satisfied with the results. The weathering was kept light - at least compared to some of my other builds. The weathering was done almost exclusively with MiG oils, wash, and pigments.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I really appreciate it.
Ron, I suspect that this camouflage pattern might be a misinterpretation of black and white pictures. On the other hand the pattern is not far from the "standard" king tiger pattern of the final months of the war and also close to some of the late war Hetzer schemes. I guess we will never know its if it is historically correct, but it looks good so I went for it.
Greg, The green base coat is a home made mix of Tamiya paints. The brown and sand are from the "Formula P3" range of acrylics. The name of the paints are "Gun Corps Brown" and "Hammerfall Khaki" respectively. Both darkened considerably with black. Excellent paints that have very fine pigments and can easily be thinned with water and still have a good coverage.
John, I am in on almost all the campaigns and has already finished my Strv. 103B for the Viking campaign. I will be seeing you in the other campaigns on the kitmaker network.
Once again, thanks for the nice comments, guys.

somewhere there's a thread that explains the pics - try searching the site wit Google maybe. Basically, you use the upload button; open the pic you want and copy its address; then make sure the link looks something like this:
