As of today we are 28 members strong with the elistment of eMan. As of tomorrow we have one month before the campaign officially starts. I imagine as the date gets closer and people find a suitable kit we'll see our numbers increase.

Cheers,
Jan

Jan,

Picked up my order for a couple of re-boxed Revells today, so I've enlisted. Sure could be better if I got my hands on a vintage Matchbox kit, nevertheless I'm in for this campaign.

I'll go with a Jagdpanther build. My added nostalgia trip here is that the Matchbox Jagdpanther was my first try on armor after doing all those orange and red range aircraft kits ages ago.

If my eyes and hands don't fail me I may do a Panzer IV L/70 as well -- but do sign me up for a Jagdpanther as a confirmed entry.

Cheers,

Tat

I changed my build to the good old Puma as the Revell/Matchbox Wespe was out of stock. It is a little beauty and brings back those memories.....

Btw, I managed to gather all my Matchbox and Revel re-boxed Matchbox kits together for a group photo:

The M3 Honey set is missing. Its probably under my Revel AG stash. Obviously I am a Matchbox fan. I have an equal number of aircraft kits all in 1/72nd scale as well as all the 1/76th figures (except US Infantry).

Can't wait for Jan. 15, 2010!!!

Very nice

@Tat - Welcome to our nostalgic group. Your callsign and selection have been added to the list.

@Jesper - The list now reflects you change of kit.

@Michael - Thanks for posting the "raw" radio car picture. The original base on a base I feel is totally acceptable.

Less than a month to go and I am sure that many of us are getting an itchy hobby knife finger.

Cheers,
Jan

Jesper, it's the Puma for me too. As the deal is that we mainly build out of the box, can I suggest that we agree on which scheme and decals we both use? It would be nice to get both options built rather than both doing the same one. Wouldn't it?

Hohenstaufen on the western front, or 11 Panzer Grenadier Division in the east.

As I'm at work, I had to look that up, and look what I found . . . might be useful.

Thanks Jan. Had a quick look at the sprues last night --- man, the parts are really small Anyways one thing I appreciate are the rubber band tracks that don't need to be heated or glued -- I wonder why this innovation didn't catch on with the likes of Tamiya (?). Looking forward to the start of the campaign. Cheers.

Come now Tat, the parts are practically huge compared to 1/144 scale. Because of your comments about the tracks I had to open my Priest kit and see what they were like. They are similar to the original Matchbox type with an overlapping tab to join them together.

Cheers,
Jan

Well, that's another way of looking at it -- might as well try a Pz II in 1/144 if it mounted an 18in gun :-)-

Re: tracks -- yes, that's what I like about them. Just slip it through, and you get instant tracks, no heating no glue. Cheers and all the best for the holidays -- Tat

I did note a Revell repop half track had a shocking set of tracks. Almost gel like in look.

Keith, if you'd like to post a picture or two of your old build here that's fine as it helps boost the excitement of the upcoming campaign. However, it cannot be an official entry as it is already built. As per the first rule of the campaign:

1. Either an original Matchbox kit or a Revell re-release of a former Matchbox vehicle kit are permissible. Construction may begin on or after the launch date and not prior. If in doubt, please ask in the appropriate forum.

There are still 22 days before the campaign begins and it runs until May 15/10 so I'm sure one could still find a suitable unbuilt kit. If you need further information or have any other questions please feel free to inquire in this thread.

Cheers,
Jan

EDIT:

Just by chance I found a place in the UK that has quite a few Revell re-releases. They also have mail order and are Hastings Hobbies in Hastings, East Sussex.

@eMan Thanks for the picture of the M16 and sprues. What a novel idea you had in showing then the way you did. Perhaps we should all show sprue shots from the kits we will be making. Would you like me to mark you down on the master list as building the half track?

Only 20 days before we launch the campaign. I hope everyone is experiencing at least a bit of excitement. I haven't decided 100% on the kit I will build but I am strongly leaning toward the M40 GMC.

Cheers,
Jan

@Tat You've shown me yours so I'll show you one of mine. Seriously though, I hope that you aren't anywhere near that volcano that might be erupting in your country.

Still haven't made up my mind on what to build. The M40, the M7 or the Morris.

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks Jan. The volcano is an hour's flight away from where I stay. The big worry is the ash fall / cloud that could blow my way like the one we had in the early 90's (well that one was nearer, about two hours drive by car). Anyways my worries are far less compared to the folks who are in the near vicinity of the volcano -- if it goes, it goes but I just hope that things don't go for the worst.

I also have the Jagpanzer IV L/70, but will stick to my entry first. Its easy to sign up for a campaign, finishing it is another thing. Will see how it goes.

All the best for the coming new year. Tat

Tat, the one nice thing about this campaign is that even with a bit of embellishing almost everyone should be able to finish one of these kits in the given time. It seems that normal campaign completion rates run at or below 30%. I am hoping that with this one that we should get 80+%. (fingers crossed) As someone suggested earlier, I might even give a ribbon for a multi coloured plastic (original) build without paint.

My best wishes to you end everyone here for the coming year.

Cheers,
Jan

Hello! Just yesterday I finished 3 more Matchbox-Kits:

Puma

Humber

Hanomag

Right now I have 15 out of 27 available Kits finished, with the Churchill AVRE currently in the making.
Especially for this Campaign I´m planning to build the Sherman Firefly at first. I´m always finishing batches of three Kits at a time, so you can expect more from me. I haven´t decided about the others yet.

WOW, Max! That is really getting into the spirit of things. All the builds are very nice but I particularly love the half track. I'll put you down in the list for the Firefly. One important point though, you haven't officially enlisted in the campaign. Please click HERE to be taken to the campaign enlistment page. Once there, click on the enlist button on the right side of the page above the names of all who have enlisted. I can't award campaign ribbons to those who have not officially enlisted. Only 15 more days to go before we can get started.

Cheers,
Jan

OMG!!! If it wasn't for the bases and figures, I wouldn't believe those 3 kits are Matchbox! I love the painting and weathering, especially the PUMA. Great job!!!

Sadly, looking at the Hanomag, we can safely say tracks are the weakest points on all Matchbox kits if we leave them as is...

With just 12 days to go we have reached 30 members for this campaign. Let's see if during it we can't get one model from each enlistee. I'm sure that even coming close might set some record. Oh, and a hearty welcome to our latest member, greywolf.

@Toby Sadly I must admit that you are correct that the tracks on the 251 do detract from an otherwise beautifully executed model. I wonder how large the market might be for Matchbox after market tracks.

Alrighty gang, rein in those horses but be prepared to start your engines. Depending on your location the campaign launches in five or six days. For the sake of continuity we'll use 00:01 Jan. 15/10 Zulu (GMT) as the official start time for the campaign. As we are on on the Internet it should be fairly easy to find your time zones variance from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). To save you some trouble here is the official Website for GMT. As the opening page displays the current GMT, that can be your start guide. Let's just say that sticking to this start time is a Klingon matter of honour.

We currently have 32 official Enlistees so hopefully we'll see some nice variance in builds. Please feel free to post progress pictures of your builds.

@tommytanker -Gary, in your case your time zone is GMT minus 6. So your start time would be 6:01 P.M. (18:01) Jan. 14/10.

Updated Enlistment list.

Cheers and waiting with anticipation,

Jan

EDIT: Corrected start date (thanks Matthew)
