Great progress on a kit that many of our larger scale brethren would think could be built in an hour or two.
I read a lot on Braille Scale sites and there are plenty of warnings to not take the AVRE lightly. Looks like you are doing a very credible job.
@AJB - Don't be so down on yourself, this is supposed to be about FUN and a bit of learning. It's also about passing along information. What you may disclose may help Toby with his Challenger. Then again he may offer you some insight.
@tommytanker - Gary, glad to hear that you are up and running. I have the Priest so I will be most interested in your progress. Good thing that you aren't building the Matchbox M-24. Wouldn't want you to mix up the parts between that build and the 1:1 scale version.

I too will be building the M24 Chaffee,
This will be my first kit build. Pretty much ever! (if you ignore the glue-encrusted 251 with Flamethrowers I built whan I was 9!)
I've been gradually collecting 1:72/6 kits for the last couple of years alongside building other large-scale scratch projects, asking lots of questions and researching the general art of kit-building. I figured joining this campaign would be a good way to finally get started.
Andrew - I'll be following your progress particularly closely as I'm sure I'll learn a lot (no pressure!!). I've had a good look at my kit - how do you propose to deal with the decal on the rear that partially covers the grille? I was wondering about making a mask and spraying the star on - the photo on the instructions just looks ugly.
Our flat is on the market and - as if it knew - I'm suddenly faced with unexpected DIY jobs. Therefore my participation might be rather delayed and a little sporadic. But I'd like to wish everyone good luck.

Some progress on the M-24. Assembled it and got the primer on today. I'm going to have some difficulty getting the idler and drive sprockets under the track guards...but the only other option was to put the guards on after painting- which should be tomorrow.

Greetings all.
We now have 10 people committed to and/or actually building. I hope that any problems that arise in your builds are few and minor.
@ Andronicus - Another M-24 will certainly enhance our groups recon abilities.
The M-24 is a nice little kit and should go together with minimal difficulty. The nice thing about having several people working on the same kit is how they might help each other and learn new things.
@Kimmo - This is another kit that I'll be fascinated to see come together. The Ft-17 will be particularly interesting as I envision it's absolutely tiny. Perhaps on a par in size with the old Fugimi Pz I.

I have made start to my Churchill AVRE
I have run into a small problem. Steps 12 and 13 show the installation of the drive and return sprockets, two number 29 at the rear and two number 30 at the front.
Now this does not seam to be right as I cannot fit these parts together, should this be 29 + 30 in all positions ?
Can someone give me some guidence

Interesting, I didn't even notice... I just got them all off the sprue and added one of each on each end. Filed off the locationg lugs on the wheels though, as I couldn't get a good fit at all. Cleaning up the attachment points from the drive sprocket teeth was a PITA though, used a triangualar file to get the teeth back.

Good to see everyone's off to a good start. Started work on the Jagdpanther today:
Well here's one for the nostalgia trip. I guess its just correct for Revell to take out the Matchbox markings, but they have left the originial kit no:
Still have to fix the bad fit on the front hull, somehow couldn't get it aligned. Drilled a hole for gun -- this is allowed, right?

I just had a look at the original plans for the A.V.R.E. and I was quite surprised by the number of parts and what will be involved to build that kit. You people doing this kit have to be pretty talented masochists.
So much for a simple, quick build.
@Tat
Some really quick progress there on your Jagdpanther. The picture with "the big brother" and the "PK 80" on the sprue are some nice inspirational touches.
As to your question about the boring out of the gun barrel, I believe that this was covered earlier in the thread and is totally fine and acceptable. Little things like that or opening closed hatches/doors, adding some storage or small details are all covered by the original rules. If in doubt it doesn't hurt to ask.

Mine is the a matchbox kit with what appears to be "Japanese" instructions.
I think that Revell have corected the instructions.

Couple of pics...
Trying to sneak this in without us noticing!
Looks like a very nice build and for some reason I like the way the tracks sit in the top picture, especially nice around the sprocket. You're off to a fine start but as you mention the difficult (almost fun?) part begins with the detailing.

Thanks Jan, and yes it builds quite fast. Have tested the tracks, but there seems to be a gap in the joints when stretched. Still have to find a way to get some sag -- if possible. Filled up the the hull gaps. So far its ready for priming. Here are the latest:

Watch the Revell M40 re-pop as the lower chassis plate in my kit was warped. I got most of the problem sorted with some clamping and CA.

Tat, perhaps the tracks may be a job for a gap filling super glue. From pictures I've seen the track rests on top of the road wheels in most cases. Another method I've seen a Braille scale builder use on these kind of tracks is to use a metal pin to force the track down on the wheels. You drill a hole in the body, super glue in the rod so it keeps the track down. Suitable weathering should be able to disguise the pin when done.

The Funnies by Geoffrey W Futter was a series that originally ran in Military Modelling in the 1970s, maybe early 80s. I remember it did seem to go for an interminably long time - for my child like perspective of time anyway. I think it must have become a book afterwards. Yours looks like a German editiion.
A message for my comrade Puma builder - if you haven't started yet. Those suspension units are very delicate. The wheel connectors present a big lever against the thinness of the joint to the swinging arms. I broke one. .

Building this old Matchbox kit shows how lucky we are with the more modern kits.
I think we all know that the tracks will be the weakest point of all the matchbox builds, so I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out on the Priest.
I'm looking forward to making the best of this old kit.
Incidentally, does anyone know anything of the Italeri 1/72 'fastbuild' Priest. Many UK sites have this slated for release Nov/Dec 2009, but no sign of it anywhere. It could provide a good basis for a kit bash/scratchbuild opportunity to make a 1/72 (not 1/76) Priest - a very obvious omission from the current Allied 1/72 kits.

Go for one of the Stuarts. Two reasons:
1) I don't think anyone else is building one
2) There's not enough Allied armour builds around!

I have a few others in my inventory, just did not locate the boxes among the stacks of moving boxes. The ones I have but did not find are the LRDG, M40 GMC, M16, T-34/76, Puma, Pz III Ausf. L, JdgPz IV L/70 (I'd really like to locate this one to build), M7 Priest and the Humber (2nd choice to build).
