Got some work done on the FAV. It's best to do it in stages so you can paint bits of it before it all goes together.

Hi guys,
I also subscribed for this campaign, but my ideas were little bit faster than my construction... originally I thought to join this campaign with another project, but I am still in the middle of the current one.

I am not sure you will accept it for this campaign as on the May 1st I was already in progress, but I can assure you the construction will still last for over 2 months, so there will be an improvement visible ..unless I decide to through it out of window due to getting on my nerves And if you don't accept it, just let me know.

This is the Accurate Armour SAS Land Rover converted into "1991" version. Honestly speaking it wasn´t very tough to convert despite it is more things to change/cut off/add than the frame. I am sending you few pictures of the finished, but unpainted model to see which pieces do not come from the kit and other to show the kit in a base colour ready to get the camouflage. I decided to add the tarp already now as it was formed straight on the frame using gauze, paper and disperse glue. I didn´t want the final paintjob to suffer from that.

So, any comment welcome. Unless you tell me to go I will keep you posted with updates on the construction.

Regards

Jiri

Hi,
here's some update on my SOF project. Basic paint job done and the grey camouflage fields and weathering will follow in next 14 days (just before my 14-day business trip abroad).

Comments are welcome

Hi all,

Finally got round to starting my Tamiya Pink Panther, I've built most of the lower chassis, I've ordered up an Eduard etch set which I'm waiting on, will post some pics in the week. I have to say starting the Pink Panther has helped get back my lost modeling motivation. Excellent work everyone by the way.

Hi Scott,
I have a Tamiya British Command Car w/20mm that was used by the Long Range Desert Group (L.R.D.G) in North Africa on order. Would that qualify as a Special Forces vehicle for this campaign?

Hi folks, starting to think about build for the SF campaign...

I'm trying to find some sort of Eastern Block/Middle Eastern 1/35 civvie or jeep type vehicle- it'll be shot up so my budget won't stretch to a pristine, limited edition resin kit handbuilt by vestal virgins...

Anybody got any advice or know of any kits???

Thanks,

EOin

Just noticed that somebody was looking for the LRDG Chevy. If their still interested in getting one I just found them on the sprue brothers website.

I ordered one a week ago and it came pretty quick.

Just thought I would let you know. Great campaign by the way.

Hi Sal

Why not straighten one of his legs out and put an improvised splint on it made from a couple of sticks and bandages above and below the break, first aid style.

Maybe a bit more apt for your situation and as a private joke to yourself.

Nige

2 years ago while hiking in the Grand Canyon I stepped of a rock the wrong way and fractured my fibular. But Im not 1 to ruin the family vacation and continued hiking and walking on it for the next 6 day. Accomplished everything that we had planed for vacation. When I came home I finally went to see a dr. Who told me about the brake and said the ligaments were torn as well
That 5 week lay up got me back to building models for the first time since I was a kid, over 25 years.
Well I guess 5 weeks wasn't enough it never heeled right, fast forward to February 2010 I slipped on the ice and re-injured the ankle. Still wouldn't heel so in May I underwent ankle reconstruction surgery. Hopefully the cast will come off next Thursday and then the Therapy will start.
Then I may have to go back to work

The back to work bit will hurt. All that model building time lost again.

As we say here "Go and get some therapy !"

You will be needing model building withdrawell therapy for sure.

Glad you like the idea as it might look cool immagining the poor guy getting jolted about in the back as they beat a hasty retreat. I am sure there will be loads of hornet heads with pained expression and arms to suggest him holding the seat and his broken leg.

Get well soon and enjoy the time to model.

Hi Guys,
I'm gonna call this finished. I'll study the photos tomorrow to see if anything needs a touch up but for now here is my LRDG Chevy
Photobucket
I know the flash is to bright have to get my daughter to show me how to use it 1 day
Photobucket
Photobucket
Used Nige's idea about putting the figure in the back in a splint. The straps are a little too big but it was my 1st time trying something like that
Photobucket
Let me know what you think, I'm always willing to learn new approaches or methods.

Hi Sel

Glad you liked the idea, I think it gives a wee bit different story. A couple of things that might help if you are putting the truck on a small dio might be to adapt the front wheel mountings to show the truck turning to the same tight turn as the driver is clearly pulling the wheel.

Also to soften the suspension on the left side of the truck to show it dipping and rolling as it turns tightly.

The eyes and lips would benefit from toning right down to the minimum tones and eye size as they are a bit too bold.

Have you thought about maybe using the thinnest of single ply tissue possible cut to thinnest of stips to do the splints and maybe sand the boot, leg and splint so they are slightly tighter looking with the tissue wrapped using very watered down PVA glue to make slightly tighter and thinner wrapping?

It would be cool if you could get arms that show the injured guy holding on to the truck side as he is perched right at the back and if travelling fast would be keen on holding on real tight.

Hope you don't think me critisizing as I really like the idea you have going. Hope to see a little dio of a desert track or the like.

all the best

Nige,
Not criticizing at all. Im sort of an old-newbe here your comments are just the tutorial that I need to help me improve. Like I never thought to use tissue paper I saw the piece of cloth and just used that and was as it was unraveling at I tried to tie it.
Not planning any sort of dio at the moment rt now, still need to improve there too Still working on improving the faces when I'm more mobile I need to get some additional flesh tone acrylics.
Thanks again for your help, I'll try to work on that leg today.

Tried to cut the wheels a bit but they are glued in place pretty well. Any other suggestions are always welcome.
