Well troops this is going to be my official entry for the True North Strong and Free campaign. Base kit is the Trumpeter ASLAV-25 and i'll be using the Real Models Coyote conversion and some extras

Got started with mating the resin upper hull to the Trumpy lower hull. No issues here, just be careful in removing the pour block to keep a nice straight edge. Also since the Coyote is not amphibious the rear of the lower hull was filled in along with removing the marine drive mounts.

I will also attempt to pose the steering axles so we'll see how that goes!

Thanks for looking, any and all comments welcome.

cheers

Rick,

I think this might be my next project so I'll be watching with interest. The more details the better!

Not much time at the workbench today but I did manage to get the steering sorted out.

First thing was to seperate the tie rods, center link, pitman and idler arms.

Then install the pitman arm and the idler arm. Now do not glue these in place as you'll need to do some fine tuning when it's all together.

Next is the left tie rod.

Then the right tie rod.

Then finally the center link.

I also removed the trim vane mounts as they are not needed.

cheers

Rick
Great progress. I have kept your images on how to adjust the steering in a folder for all time, great tutorial.
Thanks

Thanks fellas,

Here's what the front wheel angle looks like. When these 8 wheeled lavs turn the front axle will turn sharper than the second axle.

I would love doing one myself but my minister of budget is already frowning at me

Got a little more done today, started with the PE add-on armour for the hull and sponsons. Also got the fuel tanks mounted. I had to relocate the lower towing shackle a smidge to the outside to clear the fuel tank filler cover.

Before

Now scootched over.

Use the PE armour parts as templates to cut out the .5mm panels.

Thanks Milo!

And Oliver after the silly season my shopping for models and accessories has pretty much come to an end LOL.

Well the last entry for today

I decided to add this small filler piece thats not included in the PE. Nothing to hard as I have some thin brass sheet. This time I cut out the shape in evergreen sheet and then glued it unto the brass and cut it out.

Still have to add all the hold down hardware. With just this much done it's already getting some weight to it LOL.

Small update on the 'yote.

Installed the missing steering shock absorber, there is only one that is installed on the front steering linkage (the white parts LOL)

I'm now in the process of installing the brake lines and the hub vent lines for each axle

These small bars need some tedious work in order to have a great effect.
My hat off Rick

Ya the ASLAV kit supplies the armoured covers, unfortunately they are the wrong shape for the Coyote. I had to re-shape them and thin them out a bunch to get the right look.

Yes Olivier it wouldn't take much to morph the ASLAV into a Coyote we can only hope LOL.

I changed the armoured covers as I had mistakenly made the ASLAV ones with the wrong angle

And got started on the vent and brake lines, they aren't cut to the finished lenght yet

Looks great Rick....A piece of trivia....the vent and brake line covers are a decendant of ones originally produced for the AVGPs back in the late 1980s.....I guess someone finally got tired of replacing the lines after they got ripped of while bush bashing.
