Hi all, have just enlisted.I've only ever built one Sherman,ESCI kit i think, when i was about 12,was pretty shabby as i recall!
Looking forward to building a couple for the campaign.
At this point i'll be building a Revell (Matchbox reissue) 1:76 Firefly and a Dragon 1:72 Sherman Mk.III.

Just picked up the Dragon kit today, will be my first Dragon build.I grew up building mainly matchbox and airfix etc. so was very impressed with the detail upon opening the box tonight!
Cheers,
Tim

They sound good Tim !

Green light to go on the 1st !

Cheers

It also came with a "50" marking for the 68th Armored Division, anybody have a photo of that Sherman?

Hey again Sal
I have a small photo of that particular Sherman in a book and it is captioned as being in Draufflet Luxembourg, possibly early 1945.Not much to see on the tank itself, save for the stowage bars around the turret sides (as per 'Caballero') with Musette bags and similar in position on them, a tarp draped over the guntube and top of glacis, plenty of assorted stowage on the rear deck and folding stowage rack also covered in a tarp... A .50cal is mounted and whip aerial is tied back from vertical. There appears to be extended end connectors in place; a few of them are missing...
Hope that helps some

Here is my weapon of choice. It also will include an Armorscale gunshield and guntube (for no other reason than getting them cheap at a swap n sell )
The Aber will be used sparingly, and the Voyager set will be used on another Sherman. (But of course)

I've just spotted this and have enlisted. I usually fail at group builds as I take so long to finish anything, 12 months is more like it! Even I will be able to finish on time...

I will be building Dragon's M4A3 105mm HVSS (6354). The decals will be a little bit different though, they are for a Dutch Marine Sherman deployed on Java during the conflict for Indonesian Independence. The decals were custom made for me by Black Lion Decals.

Looking at the contents of the box I shouldn't have to add much in the way of AM goodies, I will have a look at what p.e. is available for it.

Dave.

I finished up my M4A2 for the Pacific Campaign over a week ago and ever since I've been staring at an unopened Dragon 1/72 M4. I've been trying to bide my time by watching TV, and I can tell you that I'm ready for this campaign to start! I'm thinking I might start with the 1/72 M4 then come back after two other campaigns (1/48 and Blitz 3) to finish up with a 1/35 kit, maybe the Tasca M4A1. Looking forward to it!

Well I'm going to start off with my Sherman IIDV and I must admit I have cut off and sanded a lot of pieces ...Tomorrow is a holiday here so I plan on starting tonight at midnight and hope to have quite a bit done by tomorrow night..
I still don't know what tank I'm going to build exactly but I have both the Bison and Echelon decal sheets to decide from...I do have the Aber PE but I'm going to try and keep my AMS to a minimum on this build ..The next one might be a little different ,I'm planning on using the Dragon M4 to build Double Trouble with the dozer blade in the front (trakz) and decals from Bison ...I'm hoping it made it off the beach so I can build it without the wading trunks (If anyone knows more about this tank please let me know ...If I get through that one then there's a new M4A3 (w)76mm sitting here as well ...but now I'm getting ahead of myself ...

@ Bradley - I'll be really following your build closely, just got the 76 (W) myself.

@ Dave - very interesting markings ! Something really different.

@ Michael S - it's not that hard mate - maybe option 1

@ Michael A - your choices look good. Hope you start soon !

@ Richard - will the IIDV have British markings ?

Happy starts all !

Cheers

The balloon has gone up and we are off. So I better get started. The plan is to turn the Cyber-Hobby M4A4 Sherman into a Sherman Bolster.

A bit of a background, as WWII progressed it became apparent that there was a need engineers to be able to provide obstacle crossings under fire and a range of vehicles were modified to meet this need. I think most of us are familiar with the 79th Arrmoured Division and 'Hobart's Funnies'. But what was true for NWE was also true for Italy, and New Zealand had it's own version of the 79th, all be it scaled down, the 28th Assault Squadron NZE. They were formed in March 1945 and during their short existence used a number of different specialist AFVs, including Valentine Bridgelayers, Sherman ARKs, Kangaroos (both Sherman and Priest), Sherman Fascine Carriers and Sherman Bolsters. These were a type of Fascine Carrier, where a fascine and a "stepping stone" (a series of cribs welded together) were carried on a rotatable turntable.

These vehicles based on both the Sherman II and V.

Well that's the beast and the plan, so on to the work bench.

First task, enlarge the turret ring, only to find that that nice 'breathing chap' has not lined up the turret on the turret race Oh well 364 days to go

cheers

David,

No fair hiding just in front of the International Date Line! The rest of us have to wait hours before we can start...

(That Bolster looks neat - I always thought a bolster was a cylindrical cushion at the head of the bed...)

My first two builds for this campaign will be done concurrently. One is a Tasca Sherman III to replicate this tank from the Fort Garry Horse:
http://img374.imageshack.us/f/2cabshermiii3pg6.jpg/

(and from the other side:)
http://img374.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2cabshermiii1ny0.jpg

The other one is this oddball tractor seen at agricultural shows in the UK:

I just couldn't resist it!

By the time it all ends I hope to have another few Shermans built...

Got a bit done but not as much as I hoped to get done ...I'll get some pictures up if the sun comes out ....

One of the advantages of living in the antipodies but it does have it's downside He who starts first, has to finish first
