Hey guys,

There is much movement on the closing stages of the campaign!

@ Vance- Welcome to the campain . I love the T-60, T70, T-80 series of miniart! I myself got the T-70, but i am looking for a T-60 now. Nice scratch building and make something nice!

@- Stephen- Nice job and you hold the record for the fastest build!
I miss a bit rustcolor on the exaustpipe... But this small thing stands in the shadow of your overall build.

@- Grant- I hope your part will come soon! I keep my fingers crossed for you

Unfortunally i myself did not so great My vegitation on the tank are a big miss. The leaves breake off while airbrushing it (its paper on electric wire so duh... I should know better ) So i decided i place a new order (this time were going for PE ) and hope they will come before the campaign is finished

Maximum additude, maximum result!!! Lets finnish the job perfectley

Regards

Remco - Yes, I noticed that yesterday after I had posted the pictures...sigh. I had meant to add a bit of rust and soot, but in the late night marathon finishing session I spaced on that detail. I shall fix that and then maybe post a final pic.

I like your T-34 and I agree, the foliage was a little out of scale. Here in the US I use a site www.scenicexpress.com . They are mainly geared towards model railroad, but they have everything a diorama builder could possibly want. Since most of their best items come from Germany, I would check your local railroad shops for some of these items. Go on the sight and browse, it will get those creative thoughts flowing!

A little more progress on my Sherman Firefly. Just a few PE details to add and the it is going for the spray booth.
A great kit so far with few problems.

More to follow over the weekend.

@ Jesper - your Shermie's coming along nicely - you did, of course, check the tow cable was the right length before glueing on the ends? Something I overlooked when I did my Dragon Emcha

Good point, Dierk. I did not do that, but the cable will be on the ground as this tank with be included in a diorama. Good tip I will remember for next time. Funny how one sometimes forget the simple things.

A little more progress on the Sherman Firefly. Just out of curiousity, does anybody know what Zemsta means? I guess it is a Polish Girls name, but I do not know.

I finished working on the tracks of my Trumpeter T-62... 3 weeks cleaning individual links, attaching , fitting and it's done...
Also the lower hull details.
I decided to paint and weather before adding the wheels and tracks.
Tracks will be painted Humbrol Steel.

After this I'll work on the turret and the KMT-6 Mine Device(from Skif)

Pics next week and hopefully an almost finished turret...

Trumpeter has 2 options for the mantlet part, but they switched the part number. Also the number of track links per side is incorrect, add 2 or 3 extra links depending on the sag.

Paul, I did the tracks in an airbrushed base coat of burnt umber. Then a hand brushed coat of dark grey.

Since the picture was taken I have given the tracks a heavy coat of European dirt pigments and a medium brown wash.
When dry I will rub of the dirt from the track pads and drybrush gun metal on the side connectors for the tracks. On this type of tracks the pads were made of rubber and not metal, so only the side connectors will get a metal drybrush.

"Revenge" very cool name. I choose the right markings

Thanks for the track info, I think they'll come up really well !

I also like the color of your scc15 base coat on the hull etc. What did you use for that ?

Het folks,

I'm going to have to resign from the campaign! I got a T-34 back in February and I haven't even had a chance to open it yet. I've just found myself in a bottleneck with ongoing campaigns, then life and work and stuff tend to get in the way.

I promise I'll pace myself better for future campaigns!

Good luck to everyone trying to finish under deadline.

remco -
You are welcome. Ever since I have discovered the ScenicExpress site a couple years ago, I have placed about four regular orders for grass, ivy, dirt, forest litter (excellent, BTW) so about every six to eight months a box arrives with dirt, sticks, stones, leaves, etc. Now I need to make some serious groundwork. I used some of their stuff for the N. African Crusader II base I made for the 1/48 campaign - the 'dry run', if you'd pardon the pun!

Keep the builds going! I am currently working on an SU-85 for the Totally Tamiya campaign. Say it with me - More Russian armor!...More Russian armor!

Thanks for the comments, Guys. I really appreciate it.

For the primer I used Vallejo's new airbrush base coats. NOT the spray cans, but paint for your airbrush. They are tough enough to use as a primer and comes in the correct base color. That saves you a base coat and helps preserve any detail by avoiding an extra think basecoat. Great if you ask me!
LINK TO VALLEJO
I used the UK Bronze Green for this kit and it looks like the perfect color. It held out very well to both decal solvents, pigments, mineral spirits, and oil paints. I am going back to my local hobby store to get the German yellow, Olive drab, and Russian green as well.
Highly recommended.

I have now finished the build. I have experimented a little with different lighting, so a few extra pictures. Hope you do not mind.

Great campaign. It was fun to participate and do the "Revenge II". What a cool name.
Comments welcome

Looking awesome Jesper! Nice job!

I also use the new vallejo primer and lovin it big time!!
The Russian green set is highly recomended. I use it now on my T-34 here. At first you have the idea that its a bit wacky, but if you use the filter by mig the colors are toned down. The lightest color of the pack i only use to highlight bolts and small parts like small hatches or hooks...
The German yellow is a bit strange. The base color is a bit to dark to my opinion . But no worrys, there is a whole rage of colors and i just use them on a panther i build for a museum. The lightest color is verry... eh... light.
I don't think i use the lightest color much. I did not put the filter on this on yet, so maybe that the colors also toned down like the Russian green set...

I have recieved my PE foilage and painting it now. Hope i make it before the campain is finished

Remco

@ Jesper - loving your Sherman! As they say in Britain: "It looks the dog's danglies" I really like the weathering! If I may be so bold as to make one suggestion, though - it might be an idea to introduce a bit of tonal variation into the dirt on the lower hull? I'd done something similar on my Emcha and it was pointed out to me that it looked like rust.

@ Remco - I hesitate to write this, as I realise that Russian green is a bit of a wasp's nest - but I'm about to poke it with a stick I think the Vallejo colour modulation set is formulated on the assumption that 4BO behaves like other colours (fades and gets lighter under the influence of age/UV radiation) However, my understanding is that the opposite is true - due to chemical instability it actually went darker the longer it was exposed to UV http://www.4bogreen.com/colors
I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong on this, as I find the idea of the modulation set very appealing.

Cheers,
Dierk

Hey Dierk,

Well, you're quite right. The color does goes darker, but only arround the eges. I have seen a copple of colorpics of T-34/85 in the late 40's and they were all bleeched by the sun. In the 50's they turned to another color green, so colorpics of 1950 T-34 are no so reliable about colors.
Panzer grey also seems to have the same decolation as 4bo green. I have seen a photo of a 170 mm morser in africa, that the color was darker on the upside of the barrel and the downside was lighter.

I love the modulation style and made my first T-34 here on this campain. Its a verry atractive and colorfull technique. Highly recommended.

About the 4bo site;
If you like Russian armor, then you have this one standart in your favorites list
(on top offcourse ) Big love for this site .
Small suggestion; Maybe its nice to do also a (small) section (or big )
about the T-34 tank on the 4bo site (just a thought )

Remco

Thanks for the comments, guys. I am also very satisfied with the end result.

Dierk, good suggestion. I think I will work over the raised parts of the suspension again with some dusty color.
I will also use the Firefly as a part of my Urban war diorama for the armorama campaign. So there it will have even more weathering to blend in with the rubble etc.

Looking forward to see your finished build with the foliage, Remco.

It is the tutorial for those new to campaigns. It is a sticky thread (meaning it stays near the top) and can usually be found right under the active campaign threads (also sticky threads).

@ Remco - excellent build! Love the way you tied on the logs, sublime chipping. Just really stunning!
But you know me - never just the carrot without a little bit of stick Those turret hatches were REALLY heavy (one of the reasons they were changed on later models) so that branch would've probably been snapped in half instead of propping open the hatch
But seriously, very impressive work - you can be proud of your achievement!
Looking forward to seeing you 'under a different flag'
Cheers,
Dierk
