No worries. I think Bruce's idea shrinks better than mine, so I'm glad to defer.

Hi Guys,
I'll chime in here with my .02 cents I think Bruces ribbon shrinks down better but I like the design of Alex's ribbon. Maybe we can convert Alex's ribbon into a banner.

Modified the idea for a banner. Once again, not offended if you want to go in a different direction; or if someone wants to take the design and try something different.

Hey guys !

Great work Axel and Bruce

Here are my thoughts .....

The Camoaign doesn't just include the Warsaw pact time frame, it includes, pre WW II, WWII, and post Warsaw pact periods too,. So,,,,,,,,,, maybe a variation on Axel's "banner" is the go for the ribbon ?

Your thoughts ?

Cheers

I'm glad the ribbon colors are popular. I'm not sure what we can put on it that will look good when we shrink it down AND be obviously connected to the theme of the campaign. (The Eastern Europe map I used on the banner will look like a black blob if we shrink it to 50x20.)

Anyway, here is an empty ribbon at 500x200. If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to use this as the basis (if you want):

okay, here's a new version using some of the banner colours and the hammer and sickle symbol (which goes back to 1917 as far as a communist icon, hope that'll be fine unless someone has a better icon that screams eastern europe?):

i may have to pass this over to someone else as i'll be tied up workwise. cheers, bd.

Bruce: I dig it bud, would love to add that one to my collection

Adrian: If it's the kit I'm thinking of then it should be awesome. I've been eyeing it for a while but somehow keep letting it slip through my fingers.

Pre 1945 all "Warsaw pact nations" were independant - just as they are after 1990.

So I think the ribbon solution is something that represents the region without a Soviet symbol.

I bet any Czech, Polish, Hungarian, etc would be quite vocal in labelling Soviet symbols as only representive of the USSR and some communist governments that lasted about 42 years (hardly a representative symbol of something like Polish or Czech WWII free forces fighting in the west),

I'm leaning to something with maps or colors that are representative of the region.

Maybe a couple of letters in the centre of the ribbon are sufficient ? eg : "EE" for Eastern Europe ?

Thoughts ?

Cheers

Paul

I agree that the ribbon should reflect pre- and post-Soviet eras. This is very rough right now. I just took the banner, isolated the drawing of eastern europe, and resized it to ribbon size. It came out more intact than I thought it would.

Hmm, it's interesting how some of these ribbons (and banners) can be quite tricky to design... Gary, I have an idea for your ribbon if you don't mind me trying it out. Do you have a 2x size version that I can borrow?

I started with the banner image so you might just want to use that. I beg people to make a better ribbon!

Jeremy, its the premium edition SU-100 with all the little etch parts and a turned metal barrel. The best part I got it on sale for only like $23

Gary: Right on, I'll see what I can do if nobody else steps up by tonight.

Adrian: That'd be the one, a sweet kit for sure

Not me. I just tried resizing it with Paint Shop Pro as an experiment and it worked out better than I thought it would.

I just signed in here for my very first campaign and was just reconsidering my model choice.... since it's not a "real" armored vehicle I'd like to ask, if it's okay to build the Stalinetz S60 tractor... waiting in my shelf for years to getting finally build... thought this might be it's chance...

cheers

Hmm. I think the ribbon is too "busy". If not for the bigger picture, I don't think I could tell what was on the ribbon.

Agreed... Should we just 86 the continental block and leave the "EE" in the center field? We could run the letters "steel" through the center of the E's.

Maybe with the "S" of the steel like a lightning bolt?
