I went the same route. 1st time as a serious modeler back in the 70's, I was strictly a aircraft guy. Went the club/IPMS regional & National route, then moved on. When I got back into modeling 1 1/2 years ago, I started off with aircraft once again, but quickly came out of the closet with my interest in Armor. My Brother, and the vast majority of modeling friends are all aircraft guys, so this was quite a surprise to most of them. Haven't looked back yet, and my interest in modeling just gets stronger and stronger.

Don't get me wrong, I truly love building aircraft, but armor gives so much more flexability for weathering. I am new to the whole oils thing, but it is a ton of fun. On aircraft I feel limited to panel lines. They are not exposed to the elements for the most part, so it is tough to really let loose. I ordered the Academy M-18 Hellcat, and I think I will go on a Tank Destroyer kick as my grandfather drove them during WWII. I am trying to do some research and figure out which battalion he was in, but that is proving to be tough.

I sprayed some stars but looks like they'll need some tidying up. Any tips for this? -- just carefully brush some thinned base color?

greg, Looks like you didn't have your masks down secure enough, and got over spray under them, as well as around them from too wide a spray pattern. As you said, you could litely dry brush the base color, but it will never get all of it off and blended in,
My honest advice to you is to step back, and take a deep breath. Here's what I would do.
1-if there are ridges from the mask, then take 600 paper wet and lightly sand them down.
2- Prime if you went through the paint to the raw plastic.
3-lightly repaint with the base color in layers. Don't forget to blend in with the surrounding areas.
4-Weather with the same procedures you originally used.
5-Gloss
6-Use kit decals or after market ones if need be.
7-Gloss over decals.
8-Now weather to blend into the entire tank weathering.
9-Flat coat.
It's a lot of work, but it will be worth it.

I've re-sprayed the whole M18 and sprayed some stars and added decals. Began painting the stowage. Too much going on right now to get much done but will make it by the deadline dec 1st (The Pershing is for the Tamiya Campaign).
I have a hang up about using a gloss coat - I just can't bring myself to do it. I'll try on a model someday I guess

Thanks guys, I'm VERY happy with it now The Steve Zaloga, "Modelling US Armor" book helped me a lot to get going with these builds. Various spraying using the Tamiya OD for shadow and OD mixed with Dark Yellow for highlights gave me the results.

Scott, sure seems to me that you've got the basics of air brushing down just fine. Looking foward to seeing the Bradley finished and in the campaign gallery.

Hi all,
Some nice work getting posted in this campaign! That M18 is looking good, Greg. As for me, with a month to go my M60A1 is in the paint shop for its desert colours!
Progress pics to come...
Tom

Scott - looks good to me. I have some humvees on the shelf that I hope to give such treatment. The spray is better then the hand painted camo I think. You can use the blue tack or painter's tape for more defined lines too.
Dani- nice choice Hope you're fast
Tom - thank you and your desert shade is looking nice!

I started modeling at the beginning of this year and just found Armorama a few months ago. Since I just finished a Sherman and wanted to try a campaign, I decided to use this campaign. Here is the photo of my Sherman.
