Next steps

-remove too big stones, roots etc (even though the snow will cover the most of it)
-painting the wood (if anyone know good tutorials how to paint balsa like realistic looking wood im all ears)
-add snow

btw. do you think the wickerwork looks TOO out of scale?

Scott: I love the shape of that turret bud, great job with the braille PE bits!

Simon: The rocks and roots do seem a little out of scale from what I've seen in photographs, which is odd because I constantly find rocks that big in relative scale when I am digging regardless of the terrain type. The bottom line in your case however is that I don't think it matters because the majority of the groundwork is going to be covered in snow as you mentioned before. Keep the momentum up, it's looking great!

Looks nice, Simon. I do not think the rocks are too big, but rather there are too many for such a small area.

The wickerworks look very even in size, but are not out of scale. I have seen garden fences build that way and size, so I guess it would be cool for trenches as well.

Btw I purchased a couple of extra figures to fill the dio.
I've tried to find out what the red armbands mean. Some people said it shows that he is a "turncoat", in this case a Ukranian fighting for the germans. Is this true? Cause then I will have to not paint the armbands on I guess.

Hey Guys,

I just joined up. I began working on an SU 122 in late January and will post pictures very soon. This is my first campaign and I was able to get quite a bit done in the days my kids and I were snowed in a couple weeks ago. I figured it was fate telling me to get enlisted in this campaign.

Well, I jumped in on this early but have a new job to get used and it's kept me away from getting much done. Love the 'Winter' themed dioramas and did these over couple last years. So my thoughts are in the right place just need to get moving.






So plan is still to hopefully get more done this winter with one involving either a Tiger I (Eastern front) or Tiger-B (Ardennes). several figures done up to accompany, now to get to real work. Fortunately your generosity in a planning a nice, long campaign will help us old and slow guys out. Some outstanding works in progress here for motivation also. Keep up the great work!

Your work looks like a good foundation for this campaign. It looks great^^
One thing that catch my eye though is that some of the uniforms looks very bright/gloss (maybe it's the flash). Maybe paint them with a more matt finish. Also a good trick (in my opinion) is to never use actual black for black uniforms etc. It looks strange in this scale. Maybe try to use a very dark gray and then add different tones with higlights and shadows.

That is more along the lines of what I was thinking Axel, it looks very good thank you for doing the ribbon.

The Armbands would be just recognition signs- if everyone is wearing winter camo -it's hard to tell friend from Foe so troops would wear the same colour armbands to prevent casualties from friendly fire.

i really liked Gary's snowman tank ribbon but Axel has made another great ribbon option with the snowflake. since the campaign is not only vehicles i can see how the snowflake says it all.

Thanks for the positive feedback on the ribbon everyone. My ideas for ribbons have been hit and miss. Glad to hear this one isn't way off; I hope it serves you well.

Sometimes real life really gets in the way of modelling but with a few days off, a concentrated long week-end of modelling and 6 tins of Kopparberg Swedish Pear Cider ( rather apt I thought) I managed to move the PvB along a bit.
Now that the body is sound, shaped, sanded and filled I can make the parts and apply them to the hull, just like any kit build

A light fitting and the roof top fire extinguisher,both largely Evergreen.
then just a matter of make and fix.






The hatches are from an old Tamiya M113 and a resin copy. The slight dark grey rise upon which the commanders hatch rests came from a Lego Death Star cast aside by a young family member.With a small amount of sanding it fitted perfectly and was exactly the right shape.




As you can see, I hope, it's about 90% finished just a few small parts to do. Then it's the turret.
Some of my wingy-thing builder friends who have built and painted the Swedish Air Force splinter scheme have thrown their hands up in horror at the masking required for this. I confess I hadn't thought that far but they may have a point, we shall see. Its all part of the fun.
