My latest thought, having seen the Irish SF Ford and several Land Rover conversions here, is a USMC Interim Fast Attack Vehicle, based on the Mercedes G-Wagen. I just completed two M151's, so I'm staying away from the earlier FAV. That's Marine bad-ass and makes a distinct piece for my shelf. The Revell WOLF is selling pretty cheap, but I would have to extend the chassis to Long Wheelbase. I see there's an AM conversion out there, but I'm a penny-pinching scratchbuilder. If I were really ambitious, it would be nice to build an enormous 1/35 CH-53 to carry the IFAV ...but I'm not.
US Marines in a Mercedes. Proof of the short-lived marriage between Daimler and Chrysler.
This campaign should be approved pretty quickly, eh? Then 8 or 9 months until we begin...
-Sean.

Sean: The Royal Dutch Army uses the Wolf "Lang" too. Check out this build log of a Commando Mercedes. The guy stretched his by using two revell kits.

Hello All,
I am sorry about not getting the rules posted this weekend. I had to clean out my retaining pond that supplies me with my hydroelectric and water supplies from all of the junk from the snow run off. I got about a ton of branches and garbage cleared out and all is ready to go. I forgot I get about 50% of my electric from the dam and all of my water.
I will do my research tonight and hopefully post them tomorrow.
I am sorry if I let all of you down, But I am still getting back in the "saddle" on running a campaign.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hello All,
Here are the rules I think we should use for the Marine Corps Campaign:
1) The campaign will start December 15, 2011 and end on June 15,2012.
2) All models will not be started before the start date and must be finished by the end date.
3) All models must have one photo which includes a newspaper dated on/or after December 15, 2011
and be posted in the thread before you start the build.
4) Any and all units that are called Marine Corps will be allowed.
I have a list of Marine units of the world if you have any questions about a certain unit.
5) The timeline is wide open from ancient to modern times. No Sci-Fi or fiction units allowed.
6) Dioramas are allowed as are multiple builds, but only one ribbon will be awarded.
7) Figures, vehicles, aircraft, etc., are allowed. In-progress photos are encouraged
8) Atleast one clear photo must be posted in the gallery to get your ribbon.
9) Please remember to have fun. This is a hobby, not real life.
So do this rules work for you? Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Rule 3 is put in because some builders have been using models already built to get ribbons.
I do not know why they do that, so I have to put in the rule.
I also need a head count so I can tell Gary if we have 10 members wanting to do this campaign.
Cheers,
Bruce

Rule 3 is kind of weird, but I understand the thought behind it and don't have a problem with it.
I am definitely in for this one, so add me to the head count. +1

I'm definately in on this one.
I'm currently building a series of Marine armor WW II to the present. This is perfect for my Academy M1A1. Or my POA CW 5, or an M46, or another M60 (A3), or .....................................
Or I just gotta get a LAV, or an LVT, or AAV or....................................

Hello Jeremy,
Rule 3 came about when some members had half built models and used them to finish them up and get a ribbon. It seem stranged that they would be done in 2 weeks after the start, So some of the staff encourage the campaign leaders to put in something like rule 3. So that is the back story on that rule.
We now have 3 for the campaign, only 7 to go.
Cheers,
Bruce

Put me down too. Either RMASG in Normandy, Dutch Korps Mariniers or some soviet vehicle serving in a Marine Corps.

Enlisted at number 5
No problem with rules number 7 change, I do that anyways.
Now if I can get some help figuring out what kind of armored wheeled vehicle my Grandpa was talking about seeing floating in a flooded are when he was in Vietnam I would be much appreciated
Thoughts are:
He thought they were LAV's when we were looking at some together...
Maybe LVT's?
or XM706's?
Any thoughts are welcome guys

Jeremy,
I don't have any Vietnam vet contacts or references, but an exhaustive Google search (in case I tried a different route than you) turned up only that there was a typhoon and disastrous flooding in Hanoi and the Red River delta in August 1971 that killed as many as 100,000, although North Vietnamese numbers are unsubstantiated.
I only found pictures of the Danang Red Beach base knocked down, but nothing showing armor floating around.
I don't know if you already knew that, but hopefully this gets you a step closer to your answer.
