Dexter,
Where was the T-55 Enigma used in Afghanistan?
The same question I was about to ask.

Umm, you know how show cars with all the chrome underneath has strategically placed mirrors on the floor to show it off?
Well, that's what I meant by needing them to show the PE on the suspension of this M1117. I just think it's unnecessary to have PE THERE!!
Sorry ... sometimes I cannot even understand what I type.
~ Jeff
It's for the detail...
If you are fitting it dry-fit all of it before gluing any...the parts were mis-numbered in my instructions and was immediatly onbvious
Ya think?
I know that but the reason I brought it up in the first place is that it's UNDERNEATH the model, where it cannot be seen and WILL be subject to mud hiding it.
So if it were a showcar and if I placed mirrors underneath it ...
Good gawd.
(Oh, and I am the KING of dry fitting!!)

But it also comes down the front and back of the wheel well...if you build with the wheels turned it will be visable from a 38-degree angle around to 67-degrees...

Ummm,
I don't want to make a big deal outta this but to clarify, it is on the suspension mounting points on the differential.
I just find it odd that PE is there and cannot be seen, that's all. So far I am lovin' this kit and cannot wait to get the Buffalo which is what I wanted originally for the Campaign but thought it would be a bit too much ... since my plate is very full now.
I had dolled this one up with additional PE kits and some sagged resin tires too, thanks to a very well written and informative review on the available tires.

Don't worry about it Dexter. It happens to us all, at one point or another. Now, you may be able to salvage the build if you leave off the space armor and go for the Afghani version. I don't think there is a huge difference, but I could be wrong.

Gary: We have had two ribbons designed and I known at least one submitted, but they aren't appearing for the award ribbon. Have you received either of these?
I haven't received any ribbon designs but there should be no need as Campaign leaders can add the ribbon image themselves. The leader tutorial shows how.

A few progress pics of the M1117 Guardian. I really can't go much further because of the PE sets and the resin tires are not here yet. So, here's what I got after step 6, the front and rear suspension and most of the body.
I forget who it was that warned me about the instructions and they were right. The suspension was really goofed up!!
The kit does contain some PE but I don't exactly know how extensive one of the sets I have coming is, so I better hold up.
Plus I found a figure of a soldier with a dog so I might as well order it while I'm waiting. I'll be using the kits decal set for sure, even after seeing some real neat ones for the Bulgarian M1117.
Overall, it's a fun kit ... at least to me. Having been on tracks for a long time it feels good to do something different for a change, and a challenge too.
This is just the start of my Modern Armor Collection.

Jeff: since I don't have my kit, yet, I'll be following your build to keep it right. The suspension looks nicely detailed. I'm suprised you didn't go with the Voyager wheels that include the pe armor for the rims. It seems a very nice set.
Does anybody know if the wheels on the Bulgarian M1117 are the same as the US style? Just one of those simple things I don't want to bang my head against the wall for missing.

Hey Matt!
Here's the review
http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/m1117/m1117wheels.html that helped me make my mind up on which AM wheels to choose from. The kit DOES offer the same PE for the wheels, but the tires are vinyl.

I thought so:
And I found this image pretty interesting that it was originally tan in color, then painted their green as the interior side of the doors indicate.

Hi,
now i'm showing what i planned to ibuild. It will be an BMP-2 of the soviet army from the 80's. I'll use the old Dragon Kit and eduard PE-Parts and an aftermarket barrel to replace it's 30mm cannon. The dragon kit includes an interesting decal variant with an dragonhead painted on the turretfront. I think i'll will build this variant, which was in the originla the standard BMP-2 vrainat an not the D-Version. And now a few pictures of the kit.

I love the BMP's and the BTR's, even though one is wheeled and the other is tracked!
So, any idea what the Dragon Head stands for?

Usually the soviets didn't paint animals or other extraodinary things on their vehicles. Sometimes their vehicles were painted with patriotic or political slogans and sometimes with writing for the memory of fallen comrades. So I don't think that dragon head is not some offical emblem of an unit. In "the war in afghanistan" from concord is an picture of this vehicle and it's said that the picture was taken in 1988 during the withdraw from the panshir valley indeed with an different number on the hull but in general it is astonishing how good the decal variants of the old dragon kit are researched

The m117 seems popular in this campaign but why not? Here is the progress of my build so far. [
The rear hatches are closed with plastic sheet and putty. Maybe it's not complete and more putty is needed not sure.
With the not yet glued hatches but a bit like this it should look in the end
Here you see nothing i hope because it's where the useless firing port vanished

Nice work there Jochen!
And Huypham, I am building the same thing (with the Rhino device) so it'll be cool to see them here! I am doing the USA version with the sand color.
Will yours be the same?

I thought there would be a flood of Strykers. As I haven't ordered my kit, yet I think I will build a Stryker. If I have time, I will go ahead with the M1117.
