Ian great job on the Chieftain The finish really makes me want to get one for myself. Hard to believe that some of the old Tamiya kits can turn into some great stuff with a little TLC.

Well I’m finished with my construction of the M60 and I have back dated it to an A1. I plan to start priming it tomorrow and should start the actual painting the next day. I have a lot of parts not glued down yet to make painting a bit easier as you can see the gunner’s sight is not in place since it comes with a clear part for it.

@Ian, Beautiful build. Fantastic paint and that base really sets it all together quite well!

@Christopher, That M60 is looking really good. Looking forward to the paint. I just saw a 'real' one today in Ypsilanti, MI outside a VFW.

Thanks Christopher! Took ALOT of TLC to get the Chieftain upgraded!!! Your M-60 really looks sharp...nice, crisp construction. The -60 always was an impressive looking MBT. Looking forward to seeing the completed project. Hey, if there's two more on here you and Larry will have a platoon of 'em!

Best wishes, Ian😉

Ian, nice work. That camo scheme would have driven me insane to pull off.

Thanks Alex! Yeah, it did about drive me insane. I don't claim to be much of a scratchbuilder either, so the mods were tough too. Nonetheless, I am glad I built it and I got great help from folks in the campaign itself, especially Paul. Plus, there is great history with the King's Hussars so there was a nice historical backdrop to it all!

Okay, have the tracks assembled and now have to paint them. After that, finish the MG and detail paint plus some final assembly. Using a 'twig' for the unditching log to replace the plastic one. And have to put on the tow cables and other final equip. Here is a updated shot.

Also, might notice the gunners sight. Tried using white glue to fill the while (thinking it dries clear). Well not so much. Will have to remove and replace with something else.

And yes, I do need one more link on each side.

Looking good John!

Almost finished the dozer blade, there is a bit of a fit issue to work out.

Cheers Rob.

John I like how the camo came out on the Type. Adds a bit of interest to a rather crude kit from trumpeter.

Well I have completed my basic painting today and will start painting the markings later this week. I’ve built the paint up in several layers.

Base primer with Vallejo model air greman grey

Second coat using model air tank dark yellow

Third coat using life color Israeli sand grey

Last part using Vallejo French tanker highlight and us tanker highlight for the fading process.

Chis,

The M60 is coming along nicely. Now for the but, It looks like the right side rangefinder blister has a door. This is only on M60A3s to cover the laser rangefinder. On an A1 it has no cover and looks like the left blister for the coincidence range finder. You used side loading air cleaner boxes which puts your tank in the mid 70s or earlier. Most US Army M60A1s that I saw from 77 on had armored top loading aircleaners. The side loading aluminum air cleaners were to easily damaged in combat. Some export M60A1s still used side loaders. You also put replacement track pads on the bustle rack are you using T142 tracks. I think they were a late 70s issue, my M60A1 RISE passive came with them.

What color scheme are you working toward? Can't wait to see the final results.

Thanks Paul and Thomas for the comments. I notice the screw up on the range finder after everything is said and done. I'm building an Iranian M60A1, which we sent them tones of them during the 80's for the Iran Iraq war. Yes I'm using the T142 tracks as I've seen pictures of both style tracks used during the war.

Mark----Well done. Whitewash schemes are tough because the goal is to use white paint but still reduce the opacity and get it weathered right. You really hit the nail on the head. Makes me want to watch "Red Dawn" now.

Best wishes, Ian

Ian, great execution on the urban Chieftan, btw! I've been very jammed up lately and haven't had much chance to get anything done on my project. Maybe this week....

Thanks Larry! Hope to see some M60 pics from you soon.

John----Hope your decals arrive instead of the bills. Good looking resin on your Magach. What decals are you going to use for it?
