Thanks Ian.
I'm getting some Bison Decals for IDF Centurions/Blazers / Tirans set, and some Echelon IDF Markings (Centurions & Magach's).
Since the M48 from Tamyia only had markings for USMC and the Legend set don't have any decals, I needed to improvise..
I want to finish up the hull first, but there's still tons of work to do.. PE, cables Resin...

Hy I got the first coat of tan on my enturion tonight, with a bit of lighter overspray. I'm dabbling in some of the newer methods. I used to be a wash and dry brush only type.
Tried out my new Grex compressor which worked well for the most part but even with the moisture trap I still got a bit of water when the compre4ssor got warm. Over all it worked well though.
pictures to follow.

Well, after a slight delay is getting a few extra track parts (A BIG thanks to Paul at TrackJam!), the paint is on, from a little searching on the 'net, I read a few articles that Vallejo Dark Camo Green was the best match for the infra-red resistant paint used on the non-camo'd Leopards, so that is what I used.
So next is to apply a little True Earth filters to break up the green a little, decals, and some weathering.
I must say, after a few frustrations, I have to say the TrackJam Leopard C1 turret with the Real Model
Leopard 1 detail set looks awesome. I highly recommend the turret from TrackJam if anyone want to do a Leopard C1, and even better timing with Italeri announcing the re-release of their Leopard kit.

The IDF decals arrived... but I messed up, one of the sets had
Centurion / Blazers / Tirans markings, I was thinking that Blazers would be M48 / M60 Family... nope.
It was Centurion Blazers.. my bad. But I'll use them anyway.
Since I'm planning on getting Tirans 4 / 5 and 6.. no problem.
Also these were in the package

Well finally got my IS-3m and got a start on it. I'm using the Trumpeter kit (00316) and a couple aftermarket items including Fruil tracks (still waiting on those) and an RB barrel kit for the Dushka 12.7mm MG.
I'm following the construction in the instructions and making my own little improvements along the way. Basic construction went quick, but with alot of cleanup work, I felt. Should make a nice kit though...Trumpeter seems to have done their homework despite a couple mistakes in the instructions, mainly in mounting the side skirts.
Photos below depict my progress so far. 3 days have gone into the 12.7mm MG alone! It will be in USSR trim too.

RB kit:
Thats it for now!

Dan-----Great work on that MG. That is a model unto itself. Looking forward to seeing the completed project.
Tom-----All your vehicles look great.....that is alot of armored harbingers of doom on your workbench. Centurion looks excellent so far and I think the mantlet cover looks good too. I think it looks very realistic.
Best wishes, Ian

Thanks Thomas and Ian. I'm happy so far and the IS is looking even better this morning after some long hard work last night.
Thomas:
"Its funny how you can see issues in the pictures that you don't see on the work bench.
Question what do you guys think about the mantle cover?
Tom"
I couldnt agree more, and I've noticed there are some things the camera hides that the naked eye shows. The camera is a great tool for the modeler that way though...I used it to check my progress on something, or to see how colors are working. Your manlet cover looks great...I was going to comment on it anyway before I read your text. Really great work there...I cant wait to see the finished product on all of those models!

Dan, thanks I went Shep Paine old school with tissue and white glue, I had a Legends resin one that didn't fit. I have used the tissue method before and it can compete with the expensive after market items.
The DSHK MG looks amazing, ready to lock and load.
Random thought I have a lot of little after market bits that I tend to save for the next project rather then use them. Then I forget I have them and do a DOH. Anyone else have that problem?
Keep up the impressive work guys. I know this is not a competition but it does help me strive to keep up.
If anyone needs info on M60s let me know I have lots of pictures and my old TMs. I have to look if I saved my M48A5 TM.

Hi Tom, now please don´t get annoyed but, the mantlet cover is a good start but you´ve got a bit more work to do yet, if you want to.
The left side is ok as it is, but the right should show a good amount of sag, like this:
You could add some more layers of tissue and end up with this:
Dan, great 12.7mm that is the bees knees.
John, good going with the Magach.

Thomas,
Your mantlet cover does look a little taut, but great nonetheless. Certainly very realistic. Old Shep had some good tricks up his sleeve...I've got a couple of his books. While some of his techniques are a little out-dated now, there are some classics that just cant be beat.
I dont have much of a problem with aftermarket stuff laying around. While I have an immense appreciation of it, I cant say I'm willing to spend the extra money on a kit for all the aftermarket goodies. Often you can wrap 2-3 times the cost of the initial kit into aftermarket stuff, and I just dont have the $$ to spend on that stuff. If I cant buy it I'll often try to find a way to make it myself from scratch, my case in point the turret grabirons for my IS-3m below...paperclips! As for the Dushka, honestly the only parts I'm really impressed with are the sights and handles. The barrel is excellent, dont get me wrong, but the kit pieces are very nice and would have made a great looking MG too.
Small update below...turret and forward hull details.

Thanks for the tip, help is always appreciated, just checked this source http://www.britishpathe.com/video/e-day/query/62126
using the markings for "Nasser's nightmare" it does sag there. It shouldn"t be too difficult to add. Great picture by the way. Whats the source? I have 3 more Cents to go.

Dan I don't go crazy on after market but I'll get 30cal barrels or antenna mounts or a gun tube when on sale and put them away for a planned kit and forget them, or wait for that one kit. I've been buying After market stuff for the last 15 years or so since its been around so small items can be forgotten.
I don't do much photo etched its sometimes more work to remove the kit part for a small return in accuracy. Hence using tissue instead of buying the AFV or other resin mantle covers.
I agree about doing it yourself, for me it feels more rewarding making it myself rather then buying it. Plus with kits in the $40-$70+ range as is I can't afford alot of after market. Your right I won't triple the price of a kit adding on stuff just to use it. I use brass rod for my grab handles and I'll sand a kit barrel seam vs a metal barrel.
Great news my Tamiya Tiran 5 just shipped from Luckymodel, it was out of stock for 20 days. I also just made SFC in postings, the rank I retired with.
The IS3 coming along nicely.
Kevin the Leopard C1 looks good.

Good evening everyone,
This will be my contribution to this campaign. I was planning to build a Chieftain MK 11, but I couldn't get the necessary aftermarket materials to make the MK 11 variant, so change of plans, and I decided on Leopard.
Besides building a Leopard, I want to build this kit. I know that this is not an exactly 1A2, but I don't want any heavy scratch building projects for this. I intend to keep the scratch building and aftermarket bits minimal this time.
I already search the web for the 1A2 and found some reference, but if any one of you have information and strong references about this Leopard variant, please share with me.

Thanks Tom. Yes, there is the cost of aftermarket, and for me availability, or lack of I should say. My local hobby shops are pretty poorly stocked for many items, namely aftermarket items. Especially for armor-related stuff. If I want something I pretty much just have to order it online, so as a consequence I dont end up with alot of extras. Our area shops need to get with the program..there is so much going on in the hobby industry that they have no idea about. I went into one of them awhile back and asked for a scribing tool, for scribing styrene. "I'm not sure I know what you're talking about" the guy says! So I explained it to him...c'mon...we've all seen them in Micro-Mark. Nada.
Sorry...this is a little OT

Hi Tom, if I can I like to help out, it´s just that you have already started the painting and I wasn´t sure how you´d react.
The pic comes from:
Tankograd - British Special No. 9003, BAOR vehicles of the British Army of the Rhine 1945 - 1979.
You could PM your email and I´ll scan some more Cents off for you, if you wish?

Paul, I think I have that book, I didn't look at it since I was focused on Suez. I used the Cent in action book and Tanks Illustrated British Tanks since 1945 as my references for close ups.
Thank you for the tip, the kit is not to far along to fix since i was going to use a slightly different color for the mantle. Canvas looks different under paint then steel. The references say that it was painted when the tanks were. Will PM the e-mail.

I don't think the M-41 Bulldog was considered a MBT.
Nice choice Dan! I love your JS-III. I want one now!
I wish I had more time to join in, looks like a lot of fun. I really wanted to build that T72M I have but it will get built.
Oh well.
