Yes, technically its a T26 turret on the M4A3 chassis. Another attempt to up-gun the already proven M4 chassis to provide a quick solution to the battlefield.
Sorry Jeff, if you look close it's actually got an M4 engine deck - the donor tank was built as an M4(105mm) howitzer tank. These had the late "big hatch" 47-degree glacis with the early radial engine from the M4. Still a cool build!

Hey Tom!
Don't sorry me, I
KNOW what it is. Just go to the Wiki site
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:T26_turret_on_M4_chassis.jpg and correct them.
I
KNOW it's an M4 chassis/hull, but until the Internet has it right, I just repeat it. Kapeesh?
Besides, I know enough.
You guys just want to be Jr. Rivet Counters, huh?
Anyway, no harm ... you didn't know.

Enlisted!
I'm thinking a Korean war POA CWS H5, or maybe a M4A3 gun tank from Okinawa, or a M4 composite hull in the Phillipines, or a M4 105mm with dozer blade in Korea, or or or or..... Oh well you get the idea.

Hey John!
I just added one more goodie to the list of things my Sherman build will see.
This part is actually a 3 piece part that will throw my A1 build a little further back. I also once entertained having the early VVSS like the M3 had but, that may involve cutting down the body of the unit itself to shorten the overall height and that may not work.
Especially if I go all metal for the suspension.
As long as that's okay with the Campaign Leader and fellow rivet counters too.

Well, ya can't always trust what ya read in the funny pages! (God bless Wackypedia! Where would we be without uncontrolled information?
Now if I only had the energy to bother editing that duff page, for the sake of future researchers...
What I want to know is how badly did the thing rock when going over rough ground with that big ol' turret on top? Try explaining that to the insurance company - "I was just taking a corner at gentle speed when it rolled..."
Still, it'd make an impressive large-scale RC model!

Those look great Sal, those appear to be some fine choices. You should ask Tom, AKA barkingdigger as to what all you can do with them since he seems to be the residential Sherman Expert!

Ah, that's because Shermans aren't just an obsession - they're a way of life!
But I'm certainly no expert! As Homer Simpson said, "Every time I learn something new, it pushes something old out..."

Despite the reputation Academy have-this is a really good kit with tons of sherman spares and great additions such as seperate casting marks and numbers on a sprue. The big mistake in it is that it has the straight return rollers instead of the upswept ones
Here's my take on it from the last -or last but one Sherman campaign-

Pssh, Paul always runs a good campaign. What's new?
Sal: I have the (76)w in my stash as well. I bought it to salvage parts from, but after looking at it I decided that it's too nice of a kit to do that to. I haven't built the Academy kits, but from what I've heard they are fun builds.

I just reviewed the reviews and since you have both kits and know what's in them I would go with the Dragon kit ... if I were to build one of them first. The A3 has those DS T48 rubber chevron tracks with duckbills, which look pretty cool, has a good amount of PE and a full decal sheet too that can do many different Shermans.
The A2 is okay (and a cool Sherman no doubt) but is severely lacking as far as what it has to offer in the kit.
So there it is, my choice and or opinion.

This one always gets passed over when talking about Shermans but it is a really good kit. Mine is still unfinished as a result of laziness and not due to anything lacking in the kit. I think it comes with the straight return rollers and should have the upswept ones but apart from that it's great.
If you leave off the wading stacks and plank armor this can also be built as a Soviet Sherman.

hi Jeff, Can I ask what reviews you read? Why do you say the Academy kit is
severely lacking? Is it the lack of decal options? I'm not a flag waver for Academy but they do seem to come in for some unfair criticism for the Shermans.
The Dragon M4A3 requires some tweaks to complete as an M4A3- the grouser covers- which the M4A3 didn't have need to be removed

Good morning Pat!
First of all, let me get one thing straight and clear at first. I am not bashing the Academy kit, just comparing apples to oranges and this kit doesn't have the options as what the DML kit has. Mainly, PE and decals. Now I don't have either kit in front of me so I am going by Terry's reviews that are at the Perth Site, so if it is full of misinformation then that's where I got it from.
When asked which one to build I gave my opinion, which is just that MY OPINION. I would buy either kit as I stated the A2 was a pretty cool kit and offering.
So please, ease up on the "unfair criticism" statement.
By the way, will you be joining us in this Campaign or are you just dropping by to voice an opinion too?
Oh yeah, why didn't you use the tracks in the Academy kit for your build?

@ Jeff
To say the Academy kit is "severely lacking"
is unfair criticism in my opinion especially if you are judging only from a review which doesn't come to that conclusion. I think Severe is too strong a word to use.
I did just drop by to voice an opinion -that's allowed I think
I probably will sign up though closer to the embarkation date, I have a terrible habit of signing up to campaigns and then forgetting about them until a month from the finish
I shouldn't have a problem with Shermans though- I have plenty in the stash to chose from including another Academy M4A2/76
Why didn't I use the kit tracks? - I can't remember. I think because I had them made up from another build and photos showed them in
use on Soviet Shermans

Woooo it appears that my 2 Shermies has caused a little bit of a discussion
No harm in that is there?
As to the figures I was thinking of the Battle of the Bulge boxing of this kit which came with the US Tank Crew (NW Europe 1944) and the US 101st Airbourne Division (Bastogne 1944) figure sets.
The photo is a direct link from
Flickr and Armorama compresses the photo which makes it look tall and skinny. I can't edit the link so here it is in the kitmaker gallery

Thanks for your answer pat. Maybe I can order a Marine Shermans from Academy to use the wading stacks to use in a M4A3
