I really want to do the PTO Flamethrower with the wooden side panels. But... I can't find what I need!

I could grab a standard M4 and maybe get some kits, but I can't find either. Atleast I have 4 months to figure something out.

I would second Terry's suggestion on using the DML M4A2 Late PTO 2 n 1 as a start for your Shermie Torcher. I just picked it up today and it's got all kinds of goodies stuffed inside.

If it were me I would pick up the DML over the other two as well, not only because they are (here we go again) both severely lacking , BUT the DML has two sets of DS tracks to choose from!

But if you want stacks then the Academy is the way to go. I have the Italeri and it's not all that accurate but we are not striving for accuracy here (and especially if it's available in a box) then go for it!

Ok first off the Iwo Jima flame tanks were M4A3's. Prior to that they were M3A1s called "Satans". The M3 wasn't well suited for the Pacific so another method was tried. That's what you see with the flame gun in the bow gunner's position.

Second they were virtually identical to the gun tanks. All the flame thrower equipment was internal and the gun tube used as the flame thrower. The heat degraded the barrel enough to prevent firing AP shells but the lower velocity HP shells could still be used.

Wood armor, mesh screens, and sand bags were ordered at the battalion level, and left up to individual companies to apply.

Here are representations of the three battalions on Iwo. These are all gun tanks, but you get the idea.

I'd use, and will be using, the DML M4A3 ETO as it comes with duckbill tracks, real common in the PTO. The kit contains both cupolas so that's not an issue when building a specific tank.

Some interesting photos... a lot of Shermans but worth spending 5 or 6 minutes looking through.

Jeff,
I like the ribbon but when it gets shrunk down to ribbon size, like in the main campaign page, it looks a little elongated
Or will they be posted on are profiles like the big square

I try not to go by anything on that Main Campaign Page... it can really do some goofy things. Maybe Gary can let us know if it's okay, if not I'll fix it but it should be good to go.

The ribbon looks fine on the Only Sherman Tanks Build page.

I have a fair number of 1/35 Sherman kits but I'm also particularly bad at that nasty modeling habit of starting a kit then putting it aside. I was worried about what I actually have to choose from for this campaign. Yeah, no problem.

I have 15 unstarted Sherman kits. 11 Dragon, 2 Tasca and 2 Tamiya. Under current plans; 5 USA, 2 USMC, 2 British, 1 Canadian, 1 Polish, 1 French and 3 IDF. Now I have a different problem! Choices, choices...

Hey Jeff,

The ribbon looks ok on the Campaign page, so the stretched image in the list is probably just a slight glitch we don't need to worry about.

While I have plenty of gun-tank Shermans in thr pipeline, I'm also planning to build the rejected experimental prototype with the M26 turret on a Sherman hull - would it be acceptable under the "documented prototypes" rule? It doesn't have a T23, low- or hi-bustle turret specified in the rules, but then neither does the M32 that is apparently ok...

Of course, I doubt I can do it as much justice as Marcos did a while back!

Yeah, that prototype is okay. I only outlined those turrets so it was to portray the "Only Sherman" intent.

Ribbon images are 50 by 20. The submitted image was 50 x 50 so it got squished. I have corrected it.

Well Jeff I just signed up. Not really a huge fan of the sherman, but have the firefly just sitting around. Plan to build a Lebanese version.
