Hi all,

As I sat yesterday, throwing glue on a CMK Type 82E staff car (that's a VW Beetle to you & me!) I thought "wouldn't it be nice to have a campaign for all these lovely cars that are hitting the market?

The basic idea is anything that is broadly classed as a staff car - used primarily to ferry officers and VIPs around, often (but not always!) well behind the Lines out of earshot of the shooting. Can be any nation, scale, or era, and can include Jeeps, well-known "General's Rides" like Patton's White Scout Car or Rommel's halftrack, or even an old-school General on his favourite horse!

However, I draw the line at essentially fighting machines like tanks.

Accompanying figures are encouraged, as is the gratuitous use of gloss paint and conspicuous markings! White bumpers and fender edges are to be expected...

Oh, and if you want to pass that staff car off into private post-military hands, that's cool too. Many of the kits out these days started as civilian cars anyway.

Timeframe is still negotiable, but I'm thinking January start, for six months? Counter-offers will be considered.

Anyone game?

I might be interested if it includes soft skins that didn't ferry VIP's around but wasn't a truck either?

Like a Schwimmwagen or a Steyr vehicle? Maybe a 3 month time period? I think these are running longer than necessary and most are resorting to building yet another kit.

Tom,

Great idea, I would definitely be in. I have a 1/24 Kubelwagen that I think would fit. January 2013 works for me.

I think you should follow it up with a trucker campaign later in the year, lots of great subjects coming down the pipe, would love to see a Radschlepper OST build...

Swimmers & bucket-cars are fine by me! I was really just trying to filter out cargo trucks, APCs, flak-gun-on-XX combos etc to concentrate on people-carriers.

Jeff, I hear ya on long timescales, but will wait to hear from more folk before deciding. (6 mos was just a kind of "standard" plucked from the air.)

Hi Jesper,

Glad to have you! Sadly no command tanks - that's taking the "staff car" idea a bit too far. (There are times when I'd like a tank as my daily transport, but I doubt the police would take kindly to it...) I'd say we need to limit this to things that had at least a passing acquaintance with road-going transport.

Hope that's ok,

I'm saving my 3 staff cars for another windmill diorama but if Rommel's Halftrack is still ok I have that on the shelf.
So count me in.

Rommel's Rod? I love it! Haven't seen one of those in ages. Nobody said the VIP needed to have flesh...

[Edit: Oops - did you mean the Tamiya SdKfz 250 with Grief & Adler markings? That's fine too.)

So far that's eight (including me!) - anyone else with brass-hat transport in the stash?

(One thing I was thinking about was that DUKW that Churchill took to land in Normandy, against Monty's wishes...)

That's ok - I remember doing that kit myself, it was the first time I found link&length tracks. Pity Rommel's coat made him look like he was wearing a dress...

I'd be interested. I think I have a 1/48 Tamiya Russian staff car somewhere.
Thanks,

Hi guys, welcome aboard! I've let this coast for a couple weeks, but now that we're over the magic 10-count I can submit it for approval. Details are to be as follows - scream now if you think I should change them! If not, I'll submit it at end of play tomorrow (7 October):

The basic idea is anything that is broadly classed as a staff car - used primarily to ferry officers and VIPs around, often (but not always!) well behind the Lines out of earshot of the shooting.

1) Can be any nation, scale, or era, and can include Jeeps, well-known "General's Rides" like Patton's White Scout Car or Rommel's halftrack, or even an old-school General on his favourite horse! (Pharoah on his chariot take your fancy?...)

2) No "command tanks" - these are essentially fighting machines.

3) Accompanying figures are encouraged, as is the gratuitous use of gloss paint and conspicuous markings!

4) Oh, and if you want to pass that staff car off into private post-military hands, that's cool too. Many of the kits out these days started as civilian cars anyway. And "borrowing" by the enemy is fine too - Rommel used an AEC Dorchester in the desert, and many German staff cars got recycled by the Allies.

5) Timeframe to be 01/01/2013-01/06/2013.

6) Must post a "before" shot of the kit parts or box before starting the build, followed by at least one "in progress" shot in the thread, and at least one completed shot in the campaign gallery. Only one ribbon per entrant, on successful completion of at least one entry. Models must not be started before campaign starts, but if used in a diorama they may be coupled with other figures and vehicles that you already have finished.

7) Having fun, offering comments & advice, starting Build Logs, and other acts of Conspicuous Comeraderie are strongly encouraged!

Howdy Y'all

The campaign time frame looks a little shorter than most, everything else looks fine to me.

Take care,
