Hi, everybody
I think that this is a great campaign and I like to join it.
It ´ll be my second campaign!
This is my proposal:
I love the Pz.I family and thou this one was of very limited production with only 40 examples built it makes an unusual subject so far.
Just tell me if it´s OK for the campaign and I´ll started as soon as I finish my other commitment in the anti-aircraft campaign.
See you soon.
Raul.

I should have my kit, by the end of the month. Found an extra $20 bill folded neatly, in my wallet. Glad I check, from time to time.
Matt,You gotta love when that happens
Great choices Men,looks like theres going to be some great builds happening here Jeff T.

Raul;
Hot Dang! I was just fingering that kit as a possible build for this campaign last night! You beat me to it! (But PLEASE do carry on with it! there's room for 2 of these!)
It's a cool little off-shoot tank and did serve in small numbers in the Normandy area in 1944. The box only offers an early-war developmental paint scheme of dunkelgrau RAL 7021... but I am pretty sure that those tanks sent to France and serving around Normandy in 1944 wore a different coat - most likely a base of dunkelgelb? My question has been whether any had any camo applied onto that later gelb base.
There seem to be mighty few field pictures of this little beast.
I would strongly encourage you to do some search on other threads as to building this kit - there are a few issues that folks have addressed (and well, I think) - and there is a big issue about the tracks and the sprocket. These don't exactly match well...
My plan is to go ahead with the kit tracks and sprockets, but cut the concerned teeth off that sprocket and fit bits into the tracks instead of trying to force links to fit the teeth as is. It's what some others have done. The option is to go with some Fruils or maybe a Modelkasten set...
Thinking about a few detail mods, maybe a brass tube barrel, maybe also a brass MG barrel, some added hooks and bits, etc.!
Of course... I just ordered the HobbyBoss Pz. II J kit... So...
Cheers!

Hi, Bob
Of course there´s room for two of these! And I´ll be glad to share this build with you!
I´ve read somewhere that the issues with the tracks and sprockets are really serious so, as you can see, I´ve got the Fruil tracks and sprockets.
The other major pointed issue is the commander´s cupola. The hatch seems to be too small in diameter. May be a replacement with some from a Pz.II F cupola would work (have an old Tamiya F somewhere).
Also some others replacements will be mandatory, like the boxes´ support legs; they are badly out of scale; tools could be changed with some Dragon´s left overs or from the Tamiya PZ. IV tools set, the clamps and clasps added with the dreaded Aber PE, and the gun and MG with some metal, as you stated.
About the scheme. After reading in the excellent “Panzer Tracts Panzerkampfwagen I [1 &2]” and “AFV Collection - Panzer I - The Beginning of a Dynasty” that this little babe fought in the Normandy campaign, I was guessing the same as you. Therefore I´m planning a Dunkelgelb finish, and may add some green camo as well (not another “boring panzer grey”).
But first I must finish my Flakpanzer, and then it will be time for this one.
Cheers, Bob

if this is as good as the Flakpanzer it is going to be a work of art... at least this time I am building something different so i cant see how bad I am in comparison ;-)
but yet again, I am sticking to "boring grey" (well may do a white wash scheme for variety)

Box-mounts, maybe some tools, likely some clamps, certainly a couple of missing weld-seams - all on my "honey-do fix-list" for this baby, too!
That cupola.... Be cautious! There are a few pics of this beast that allow one to see down onto that cupola, and actually it did indeed have what appears to be a very small hatch! Certainly smaller-looking than hatches on most German tanks. I've been in the discussion around this hatch issue before... The tiny cupola hatch on the 1C seems not too different from a tiny item on the II-J, etc. Odd as it perhaps seems, I would suggest NOT replacing it, unless you find some convincing evidence for a new, larger size and find a fitting replacement.
Do the Fruils come with "correct" sprockets, or do they fit onto the kit sprockets "correctly"? I very seldom go for AM tracks, but may consider such for this one, as I got the kit pretty cheaply - and, hey, it's only money
We NEED some 1944 Normandy pics of this machine!

Here's a first "punt" at a Normandy June 1944 Pz. 1 ausf C pic!
Found this on a short web-search - take a look and see what looks to be a tri-color paint-scheme!

Hi, Robert
Thank you for your kind words. I consider my self just an average modeler and I feel really proud from your comment, you overestimate my work, but thank you again.
Besides the Flakpanzer is not finish yet and with the little or no time available I think it will take more than I expect.
What are you going to build for this campaign?
Cheers.

Hi, Bob
The Fruills came with the correct metal sprockets. I do not know if these fits in the plastic tracks or the metal tracks fits in the plastic sprocket, but why need to know that when you have the whole metal combo?
I paid AU$30 plus shipping on ebay for that set. Highly recommended!
About the hatch, I think that the definitive proof will be: If a figure of a tank commander can be placed thru it then it is correct. At least it´ll work for me
Great set of pics. The second grab my attention as it seems to have a very light shade of grey finish, or may it be dunkelgelb? I can not discern the camouflage from the third photo, but at least it’s a two tone scheme.
And I was planning a simple build for a change! Ha! I would choose the shake and bake Tamiya PZ.II C instead!!!
Cheers.

@Raul:
Here's another couple 1C pics...
http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/ww2-general/rare-crazy-panzer-projekts-1719-18.html
You can see in one that the top hatch is very small - looks to be maybe less than 3/4 the diameter of one of those "solid-stamped" road-wheels. And looking at the clearer pic of the tank parked up with crew standing around...
If I were to estimate the taller standing chap as being, say, 5 foot-9 inch US (so, an upper-average man-height) - that stamped road-wheel looks to be about 1/3 his height (2.2cm wheel next to a 7.0cm guy as measured on my screen), so would be around 22.5 US inch in diameter. So... IF that turret hatch-cover rim-to-rim is really say 3/4 of this wheel's diameter ... it would be perhaps only 17 inches in diameter! And that would be it's outer rim diameter, not the man-hole it covers and your figure fits through!
Yikes! It's been a long long time since ever I could squeeze through a 16-inch pipe or port-hole!
I think I will stick with what the kit supplies! Looks like, small as it appears, it could be pretty close to scale right size!
And see the other pics at...
http://www.ww2incolor.com/forum/showthread.php/3357-Antitank-Rifles-amp-Machineguns/page5
These are IMPORTANT to us if we want to make that very special EW 141 AT rifle barrel (the "main gun" on the 1C) look right! You can really see EVERYTHING in these pics! And a bit of nice detail around that turret hatch, to boot!

I had primed all the running gear on my Hetzer before I went to work today and was eager for some hot spraying action when I got home.
As I was mixing up some rubber black disaster struck!
My compressor vibrated right off the table and into the floor and immediately I could tell something was off since it started to sound differently! Upon closer inspection it turns out it probably landed on the air cord since there was a gash in the cord next to the coupling.
And there was much lamenting and swearing.
At least the compressor was ok tho...
After trying to fix it with masking tape I ended up superglueing the gash in the cord together, got some of my modelling zen back and actually managed to get some rubber black and dunkelgelb on the running gear.
Still have to get a new airbrush cord tho...

Frederik: Better than a new compressor.
Yeah, just annoying though. I felt I had some real momentum going with the build (getting the boring parts - tracks and running gear - done) and there's a national holiday here in Sweden tomorrow so I am off from work Thu-Fri so there was a great chance to make some real progress with a four-day weekend.
Which also means slim chances of getting a new cord until the end of next week. Just got to cross my fingers and hope the superglue holds up, I guess.

Sent the first link in a previous post. Good deduction on the measurements! Great, we can use the hatch as is in the kit!!!
Here I’m guessing about the tank color. In the same picture that you use for the measurements the uniforms wear by the crew are much darker in shade than the tank itself (even to the balkenkreuz) and the branches used to camouflage the vehicle are an indication of a late war picture, so maybe it’s dunkelgeb and in the western theater?
When I get home I’ll check the uniforms with my references. I’m guessing they are wearing M43 shirts but I’m not sure. Also will check the gun (my PC screen at home is far better than this one at the office)
Also I think I have some interior pics of the Pz.I C.
I’ll let you know later.

Hi Jeff,
The Nashorn is a superb model, one of Dragon's best, I'd go for that. RB barrels do a Nashorn barrel now as well.
All the best,
Paul
