Here's the update after a week. Upper structure is 50% done. The gun mount is done and fixed in place.
I worked on the wheels as well yesterday.
This is a dry fit only of the upper structure and wheels.

ok, started with the welding. 6/wheel, 12 fitted wheels plus 5 spares. so far I have 2. Using .5mm rod, melted in liquid poly then scored to look like weld. these are spare wheels (though I would start there) and they arent too bad - might consider slightly thinner rod perhaps

Well the die has been cast,and the winner is Mike P.with his first response of the Sturer Emil





This was not my first choice at the start,as it looked kind of plain.No goodies like the Dragon kits,but,there are acouple of reasons why i'm going with this one.
1. I've never built a Trumpeter kit
2. After looking at the kit more closely it does have some good interior details.
3. It's a little different,kinda like me
The only thing I don't like about it is the vinyl tracks
That's more than a couple but oh well.
Should be getting underway some time in the next few days.Jeff T.

Here's another view. You can see some of the wheels - the rubber - have been worked to appear as beaten up.

Switched to .25mm sheet cut into a thin strip, much closer to the pic I have

@ Gary B. that kit is a good kit to build, one of my first. Looking forward to it.

Finish what I can on the lower hull. Left off the tools and tow cables for separate painting. Not happy with the tracks holders as they were warp but once i add the tracks it should look normal. Add wires to the Nordic light and other small lights. Now taking a little break before I tackle on the turret.

Looking good so far, Mike. Dragon Hulls are rather finicky and full of details and I feel that you spend a lot of time on them without that "making progress"-feeling.

What's the idea behind those sprue holders/stands in the background? Just holding sprues or?

Hey Fredrik, they are only holding the spurs, trying to be some what organized!

Mike: Just aligning the hull, is progress. After many Dragon builds, I still run into problems.

I agree Matt, this is my 20th dragon kit I have built and always a challenge. But in the end they look great and satisfying.

Never built a Dragon before, though i have about 7 or 8 of them. So far it has been Tamiya only. Should I be worried?

Alot of awesome builds starting in here, I'd very much like to join but atm I can't decide exactly what I want to buy/build.

Tamiya's Pz. IV D builds up, nicely; as does Academy's Stug. IV G. Both are relatively cheap.

Well actually my online store of choice is having a massive summer sale and a ton of really nice Dragon kits are all like 25% off and so on, I'm a real sucker for those high detail kits and actually haven't ever had any issues with the instructions.

I'll probably stock up a few kits now to build during the year while they're relatively cheap.

Was thinking either a Stug or a Brummbär.

ok, so today I finished the wheel welds. Dont think they look "too" out of scale... and tried the tubing. Its not perfect but, once the 2 halves of wheel are together I think it gives a good impression - at least it is something to work on for the remaining 16 wheels!!!!!
