Thanks Mark. Those nuts work great for temporary jigs. To check the alignment of the fins I used a wooden ruler as a straight edge to line the fins up with the booster unit fins.

G'day fellas

Some progress photos:

First the chassis from the front -

And from the rear -

The engine, including most of the impossibly fiddly bits courtesy of Griffon Model -

The grille. I found that the brass strips provided in the Griffon Model set for the fins simply don't fit, so I replaced them with plastic strips.

Last but not least the radiator, which in previous Sd. Kfz. 7s has given me a lot of problem with the double fold required. This time I folded it around a 12" (30cm) steel rule and et voila - no problem.

Now to start on the bodywork.

Regards

Rob

Starting to look nice, Rob. Lots of great detail. You did say you're going to open up the bonnet and the doors,right?

Yes, Mark, I'm not going to all that detail just to hide it. Besides, the fit around the hood and side panels on Sd. Kfz. 7s is usually lousy, so I won't have to worry about it!

I got a good bit of work done.

Time to start on the launcher base. The base is molded in that old OD styrene. I've always had trouble with cementing this styrene. For large pieces I've started using Testors tube glue.

Parts of the lower base and support arms.

Assembled lower base.

Side control boxes.

Assembled. There's a bit of a gap on one of these.

Middle control box. I had taken a picture of the unassembled parts. It really wasn't usable...too blurry.

Launch rail unassembled.

Partly assembled.

Elevation mechanism parts.

Elevation mechanism assembled and added to rail.

Exhaust blast deflector. Assembled.

Most of the launcher components assembled.

Basic assembly is done.

Next up is paint. It's been particularly humid of late so I may put off paint for a week or two. I'll probably go with a green launcher and light gray missile. Though I might do a sand colored launcher. All in all, it's a nice little build. It's inexpensive so I'd be interested in picking up another to maybe mount it on a T62 chassis.

Great work there Rob % Alex !!
I wanted to start my Italeri's Gepard but I ran out of glue.
Went to my LHS... closed for holidays...
There were about 4 LHS near by, with this financial crisis just one survived, and they're on summer holidays...
So this week I'll just stare at the plastic

Chris, and there is was feeling guilty at finishing most of the interior of my Trumpeter vers without posting pics... -grin-
The DML kit is supposedly much more accurate, but I couldn't wait, the price was right, and I'm a sucker for a kit w an interior.
Pics tomorrow maybe.

Hi all,
A few photos progress with my model. Unfortunately, most of this and so unfortunately you will not see. But at least I have the satisfaction of having done interior.

VERY NICE! Pablo G

I would offer one "possible corrective" comment, however, on what is a super super interior build for this vehicle:

I see that you have primer-painted the gas tanks and the driver's seat, among other add-in fixtures.... I suspect that all of these were installed after the "heavy metal" of the hull and its base fittings were assembled and primed. Seats and gas-tanks, like engines and trannies and batteries, came already finished from other factories - and they would not, I'll posit, have come wearing primer! You have (correctly-so, in my opinion) added in that engine and tranny and the batteries as pre-painted / finished items - and "clearly installed post- the priming of the hull sides and spaces", but seem to be suggesting that that seat and gas-tank went in BEFORE the place was primed!

Just a thought and suggestion! However you end up going, it does look mighty neat. And if you leave the hatches open, some of this will be seen by any who want to look in! They will see a LOT!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the comment. I'm going to do even tuning the engine compartment. I'll scratches and stains with gasoline and oil. I would add a little bit of dust, but not too much, because the engine compartment in the tank is fairly tightly closed, in contrast to eg. a car where the dirt road deposited under the hood.

Hey Flak Friends,

Finally uploading some photos of the UM 1/48 GAZ-AAA with Quad Maxim. This kit is goofy and ill fitting, what can I say. If you don't employ some elaborate techniques for lining things up, nothing will be straight.

This is my first model with PE, sort of intimidating.

In this photo you can see the chassis and cabin floor, notice the use of putty and my ill fated attempts at the PE. The jig made of Popsicle sticks is the only reason anything on this is straight, parallel or 90 degrees as intended.

I broke the paper thin plastic for the headlight mounting bar so rebuilt it from sturdy wire and added copper wire mounts on the headlights according to some reference photos. I also added handles where the engine compartment opens. PE is fun.

Time for a bath and some paint and then I will start the next more difficult model: the Maxim Quad

Pawel, nice work. Really like that interior, used but not abused. Looking forward to the rest of it.

@Chris,
Nice work on the Ostwind. I'm laughing my optivisor off over all the blue on the parts page!

@Pablo,
Wow! Now, there's a man dedicated to his trade! Looks awesome, and we should all admire it while it's still visible

@Bryan,
Appears you've got your hands full with the GAZ, but looking great so far!

@Everyone else,
Great looking builds! I've got a couple other campaigns I have to wrap up before I start my own build, but really enjoying seeing everyone else's builds. Keep on trucking/tanking!

G'day fellas

No, I haven't fallen asleep down here. Been minding my three year old grandson (aka The Assistant) and he limits the things I can do with him around (eg airbrushing, superglue etc).

I've finally put the cab together and will temporarily seal it up before painting the exterior. The photos below show what it looks like finished:

Here is my first entry for this GB, Airfix's venerable 40mm Bofors.

As always with me it will be an OOB build and I intend painting it as a 1940 gun in bronze green not the desert colours Airfix suggest.

Cheers

G'day fellas

Some update shots for you. First, the gun ready for painting, and I have used a combination of brass and plastic, having long since learned to follow the principle that if it isn't going to look better in brass, then use the plastic and put the smaller brass bits on.

Next, the vehicle with most of the bits attached. I always leave the delicate bits (width indicators, headlights, Notek etc) off until the very last, otherwise I end up sticking them on multiple times!

The rifle rack was surprisingly easy (brass top, plastic base) and necessitated raiding the spares box for enough Kar98Ks.

Last but not least, the engine completed.

Regards

Rob
