Jerry, thanks for that. It simplifies matters somewhat. I've got a couple of tank commanders in pea pattern already done so I may get away with not having to do all five.
Ron, we've got plenty of time so you'll be okay having a dabble on the dark side lol. I know what you mean though. I went through a stage of just building British stuff but now I'm having a dabble in German stuff. To be honest I prefer doing German figures as there's more variation in uniforms and kit. Makes it a bit more interesting.

I know simplicity and ease of build are hallmarks of Tamiya's kits, but to say the interior of this 1973 release is primitive would be generous even by those standards. Two options: scratchbuild an entire interior, or render the interior moot. Guess which option I chose:

Damn now I'm looking at the wheel line up and it is terrible! These old ESCI kits can be frustrating I must say*. Now I have to decide if I can tear it apart without destroying it or leave well alone! (Those middle wheels should be a bit lower than the idler.)
*Wheel and track line up on the T34/76 for example. Had to cut off the axles and use wire so the wheels would stick out far enough to line up with the tracks. Luckily spotted that before putting it all together! Then there are the very visible solid double wheels on otherwise great looking kits - M48, T62, Merkava. Or Single wheels where it should be double- Nashorn, M113 for example. Maybe I should stash all these back and work on some great 1/35 kits that are awaiting!

I learned to hate ESCI/ERTL kits when I was a teenager (even though they were the kits that fit in a teenager's budget). Have not attempted any of their contemporary offerings. I wonder if they've changed...

Mark, I know what you mean about them being basic. I found a couple recently that I'd built years ago. While I remember them as a nice easy build there's nothing much inside them so the interiors are wrong. I've literally got a pile of DML ones of different types to build and there's no comparison. I've got a load of 251 spares I bought off ebay not long ago so I've taken the crappy benches out of them and am going to re-do the interior of them wth DML spare parts. I've got a couple of the 3 in 1 kits so I'll have even more spare parts once I start working on them.so should be able to pull it off hopefully. Once I've built a couple of the DML ones from the stash I may give it a shot. And like you, I may stick a tarp over part of it to hide the emptiness

Hi Atle,
Nice choiche. I built this kit last year for Engineering Campaign. Good quality, good details and a lot of parts...
Cheers

Time to start - this is my entry. A 1/35 scale AFV Club 251/7. I have a set of Friuls in the stash, but have to find a crew somewhere. Still not sure which unit it will be, but I'm tempted to do France

Ok, at least I've started. I have never built in sections, but was inspired by Joe. Not much yet
I have a question. I cant find out what parts AC1 are in real life. I dont have any pics of that part in my references. I was kind of surprised when I finally found them on the clear-parts sprue. What are they?

They might be spare vision blocks.

They are vision blocks as has been stated. They should have a very slight green tint to them and then the thin band that goes across in front is the same color as your interior paint.

Update on my modest entry. Fixed the rear wheels (as long as you don't look too closely at the rear axle underneath...). All washed up and ready for paint - with a little help from Yoda!

Have had a modelling mojo problem after getting some crap health news but have motivated myself again and I'm back at my desk. A bit of progress and have finished the two SS figures to go inside. I was initially going to put a driver and radio op in but I've decided to have it stationary with those two out of the vehicle. I'm using two figures out of the Achtung Jabo DML set as hey're in the reed green uniform so a bit of variety. Once I've touched up the inside of the half track I'll put the hull sides and top on and crack on with it. My next job is to work out where the wires go on the radios. I may have to use a bit of artistic licence as you can't see them that well with the radio op in the way lol.
Ron, these are done with the Vallejo SS paints. I lightened the base colour as you can see from the earlier pics as it looked too dark and too brown. It's now a nice pinkish hue as on original smocks. The insignia are the Archers ones. I really like these but they're a real pain in the arse to use as they come off on my fingers half the time so I end up applying them with a blade then Micro set on them. Having said that I'm quite pleased how they've come out. I used the PE headphone strip from a DML set for the radio op but it was miles too short so instead used a bit of foil off a tealight instead. Think I'll do that in future.
There's some nice progress coming on here and nice to see some variety in the variants. keep it coming chaps.

I don't know why I didn't think of this before. The radio sets in the 250/5 are two Mw E.c receivers on top and underneath it is an 80W S.a transmitter. I put in Mw E.c into google and surprisingly it came up with a You Tube video. The one I looked at was crap as it was too dark to see anything but I'm going to have a look through to see if there are any useful videos as there appears to be quite a few radio ones. I think I may try screenshotting it for reference so I know how to plumb the radio together. Cool!

Karl,
There is a website that concerns nothing but German commo gear. Of course, now I can't find the addy but I think if you google it you should find it. I used it when I did my Ardennes halftrack dio with the 251/11.

Thanks for the info Karl.
Camo is looking good, but the figures look gigantic!
And here's the site I think Jerry means; http://fykse.dnsalias.com/radio/old/index.htm
