Oh, and I finished mounting the muffler heat shield tonight as well!

Still got to do the rain cap "flapper" on the end of the exhaust pipe.

Maybe paint it aluminum and then use some clear yellow?

Solid idea . . . I was thinking maybe paint it rust and then use pastels to raise the brightness and add the yellow/gold tone. Mentally work'n on it! Thanks for the alternate idea.

Time for a progress shot:

(One of the final alterations will be to pose the driver's side door in the open position to show off that much more detail.)

Now you have me thinking; an Aluminum base coat and then transparent orange. The taillight paint also takes care of the problem of making it look like a glossy glass surface.

Back to finishing up the steering linkage:

The #2 axle, brakes and steering arm mounted on the driver's side, as now up for sale on eBay.

I know I said I was going to work on the steering gear but after building the steering arms I got sidetracked.

Worked on the second safety railing behind the cab and also on the missing hand crank for the spare tire davit.

Also added what I believe is the LHS remote control enclosure. Some vehicles seem to have this unit, many others do not. Have not as yet found a photo of this enclosure in the open position.

Both these heavily cropped photos above come from the Prime Portal website.

Well I missed the Dayton competition due to illness and I will miss the Cincinnati show due to a wedding in the family, so that puts the first appearance of this HEMTT into next year. With this additional time I am going to pull out all the stops.

I am already into this model with the resin engine kit and the cab interior etch so - in for a penny in for a pound - yesterday I ordered the following two additional detail sets.

Having the lens jewel set always adds a visual depth to the apparent surface detail on a model. I was going to add these anyway. Then that Voyager etch set for the semi-tractor will give me those well done Oshkosh logo mud flaps, the beautiful front cab steps, the front grill Oshkosh logo badge, the tie down strap for the spare tire, rear view mirrors, the service ladder and probably many more nice details that I am not even aware of. And, AND, the etch set includes all the winch fairleads in metal needed for the vehicle since I am am going to be building the winch assembly anyway!

Plus it gives me time to come up with at least a simple load on the flatrack!

Thanks for all your fine comments guys. I was concerned that perhaps folks had had enough of this HEMTT thread.

Now that I have more time to work on it I am just going to keep slugging away on this build. I will post my progress from time to time.

p.s. Taylor I am glad to say the engine fired up right away on the first crank and the test drive went off without a hitch! I can tell the steering and front end alignment still need some work and the brakes are less than perfect but my crew and I will keep working till we get it right.

Cheers

For the glass globe at the bottom of the fuel/water separator I started with a silver base coat, as per Dustin's suggestion, then used a 50/50 mix of transparent gloss red and yellow and finally touched it lightly with yellow pastel.

Thanks Dustin. I was surprised how much it looked like glass. If I had to do it again however, I would back off a bit on the red in the red/yellow mixture.

Certainly thinking about that Kieth but nothing has surfaced yet. Maybe a more colorful version of Italeri's ISO container with after market decals. Wish someone would do a US ammo load under a tarp or any kind of generic covered load similar to the British DROPS loads that are available.

I know I am being highly impatient but where is the LHS trailer to go with this model???

This would be my choice for a load (Plus trailer too!)

or maybe . . . .

Shame that Pro-Art is no more but that is what I am told. Anybody out there have one of their sets you would like to get rid of at a fair price? IM me. All I need is the the larger radio set, antenna and one speaker!

I got you covered Mike. Your gonna have to scratch the hand mike because I don't have any more of those, but I got you on the ASIP single radio, the one on the left in the picture. You'll also have to scratch the mount for the antenna, but I believe I have an extra antenna. I'm not sure about the speaker though.

Pete I have to admit I had hopes of finding the unit on the right rather than the one on the left mainly because that is the one I have actually seen pictured in the HEMTT, but beggars can't be choosers!
