Sticky...I don't want to ruin the fun...but the short barreled StuG III is actually not allowed because it's a real assault gun and it wasn't used as TD....the late version StuG III's with long barreled 75mm was also used as TD and therefore you may enter the campaign with that type StuG III. Same goes for assault guns like the Elephant and Ferdinant. The Brummbär however isn't allowed......you see my point?
More people already asked me and I said no to them as well....
Oh man I feel being such an a**h*le saying this now that you are already so far with your built Is it a prob for you not using this one but another model for the campaign?
Sorry again,
Martin

It is your campaign, so what ever you say, I formally withdraw.
As a note, I think you need to do a tad bit more research about the strumgeschutz. The Stug III A-E 75mm gun was the only weapon that was mechanized at the begining of barbarossa (besides the Pz IV) that could deal with the T34 and KV-1. If you read 2000km In a Strumgeschutz and Strumgeshcutz Vor you will see that this "Infantry weapon" was used very frequently, maybe even more so than its intened role, as a tank destroyer. To say that it didnt become a "Tank destroyer" until it was armed with a longer barrel, is naive.
Carl, I inted to mark this baby as a barbarossa beauty, so no re-arming just for a ribbon will take place. Thanks for the thought though!

Martin, I think Sticky has a point when stating that the short barreled StuG was used as an TD against the Russian heavy tanks.
On the other hand, I know you want to be as close to Garry's ideas as you can be...
Looking at the TD campaign intentions:
This campaign is to build and study the Tank Destroyers of the WW-2 era.
Ah.. we are study now the StuG...
Intention nr. 1 is in here!
A unique and specialized vehicle that was adapted to combat the heavy tanks.
The gun was used initially for infantry, but was 'addapted' (wow, look like a Borg here) into a TD gun..
A Brumbar was never adapted to get the role of a TD as far as I know.
This is a good chance for us to learn and build as we go. Learning all we can about these very succesful weapons!
Like we do now. Please... don't leave the campaign this fast...
And the only 'rules and regs' is:
only rules that we will have is that only self propelled tracked Tank Destroyers can be build
If the short barreled StuG was used as TD, I think it's a good entry.
Hope this will help...

Hi, the Italeri Elefant is assembled and basecoated but a minor disaster with the camo has set me back a bit. Trying to fix that now. I've built several Italeri kits (and have 5 or 6 more in the stash) and this is the first one I really don't like! I'm going to finish the d#mn thing though rather than start another project.
As for the short-barrelled Stug, dunno how anyone else feels but I don't see a problem with it being included. I know they were designed as artillery not TD's, but they were forced into the latter role from 1941 (I think Wittman began his career in such a vehicle).

Stug III was one of a series of assault guns/tank destroyers produced by the Germans during the war. Assault guns were easier, cheaper and less time consuming to produce than turreted tanks and that is why German factories built them in large numbers. Cost of single Ausf G was 82500RM making it cheaper than both PzKpfw III Ausf M at 103163RM and PzKpfw IV Ausf F2 at 115962RM. It is interesting to see that almost four Ausf Gs could be purchased for the cost of single King Tiger.
personally I don't want to compete against such a nice stug :-) :-) but being fair is being fair.
Best regards,
Robert

John, if you still want to be a part of the campaign (and I sure hope you will), your StuG III early is being accepted as campaign entry.
I apologize! Just trying to do it right.....will you forgive me?

Martin I have a very thick skin, there where no hard feelings on my part, I just felt it necessary to point out that all the stugs where used as TD's. I gladly withdraw my resignation from the campaign.
John.

Everyones entries are looking good. My Jagdpanzer IV A-O is coming along. I had too many family things this weekend. I will be posting some photos this weekend. I can't wait to start the indy link tracks ...... Oh Joy! I hate DML tracks. I just don't have the time to do the Frulies.
I'm glad to see everyone is moving right along with their builds. I hope I can catch up!

Looks very cool Carl! 1 little thing, the decals on the front seem to be a bit glossy (could be the pic). If they are, you can easily work that away with weathering.....so no problem

I saw that Martin,I am going to switch out the Dragon unit marking with an Archer transfer.Dragon decals are hit or miss, these were brittle, hence the crosses on the sides were from a different sheet of extras I have.. (++) (++)

Sorry For the long delay Carl. No they are not! The tracks are the old link by link and I am not in the mood to play with them. I ordered a set of Fruils. I am doing a Flampanzer III as well so I broke down and ordered 2 sets of 40cm tracks. I just don't have the time to sit and glue one whole side in a sitting. I started that way with the Tamiya indy tracks for the Tiger and love the method but it takes to long to sit in one place. I would give the magic tracks a go jut to try them. The New Jagdpanzer IV A-O is an imperial kit from the DML line so no Magic tracks.

Hi all- just want to say how impressive the entries are looking! I'm trying to catch up with what's been going on on the site during a bit of 'down-time' here at work
Have to say though, there's not much in the way of allied TDs going on. It's not like there's a shortage of allied kits compared to German! lol :-)
Btw Littorio, how is that AFV Achilles? I've got one on the shelf and was thinking of doing it for this campaign, but I took a look at the suspension and went running back to my Academy M10! There should be a chicken emoticon!

Wow it looks great......the grey is perfect....not too dark, not too light....just great!
Got no suggestions, but I do got a question: what the idea behind the openend hatch in the front? Are you going to leave it open and add interior stuff? Diorama idea perhaps?
Oh and on the previous pics of your StuG I saw you added apples to the stowage....what did you use to make them? Putty?

Thanks Martin, the open hatches is where the upper hull screws to the lower diecast hull. The hatches will be glued on when the lower hull painting is completed. The over sized apples are made from magic sculpt.

Done and dirty!
The Sd.Kfz. 250/11 was equipt with the panzerbusche squeezebore AT gun.The guns were withdrawn from service as the tungsten for the rounds became scarce.
ignore the shadow on the first picture,in real life it isnt there.I gotta learn to adjust lights better.

Hey Mondo- I don't want to worry you, but your link opens to a Tiger I build. Is this a mistake? It may well have destroyed a couple of tanks in it's career , but a Tiger is not a tank destroyer...
