Joe your roving reporter here with a pit road update. We're in the 4th turn with only a month left to the finish line of the “Armorama 500“. Delbert started from the pole, took the lead with his Armorama sponsored Chevy and never looked back. I myself has just about 30min. left to finish my entry. So how’s everyone else doing on the entries, anyone have any updates! Please post them here and don’t forget to post your pics in the campaign gallery folder.

If the majority of you feel that we need the yellow caution flag, please let me know here and I will extend it another month. See you at the finish line.

Here’s the campaign ribbon that will be awarded once you cross the finish line. The ribbon was designed by Shipper, so a BIG thank you goes out to him.

I'm finished all except waiting for the decals to cure good enough for me to spray a coat of glosscote on it. Should have a picture posted by the middle of the week.

I built a 1969 Torino driven by Richard Petty.

Darn, I need to get hot on it. Haven't even started anything. I may just crank out a regular race car OOB and save the fancy expensive Army decals for a time when I have more time to build.

My #8 Chevy will be ready. I havn't taken any pics yet but the chassis is done, decals set and it just needs a few coats of clear and some finishing touches. It's a revell kit, straight OOB and was simple and fun to build. I toyed with the idea of trying to do a car that's just had a bad day at Bristol but it would have meant a lot of er, .... modifications ... that I don't have time for at the moment. Maybe some other time!

OK, I had to dig through some of my infamous stash piles. I found a Monogram #9 Cartoon Network Lake Speed Taurus. One color paint scheme is what made my decision. I didn't want to try to paint an elaborate scheme.

Hiya all... I have finally started my dragster "funny" car. It will have a unique (for the racing circut) paint finish and custom decals. Looks to be a sweet vehicle if I can pull it off....

...that said, after building one of these kits, my hat goes off to the builders who do these kits as the main part of their hobby. Yeesh. The kit I have is Monogram and it has some pretty awefull mold flash and misalignment. That and I HATE working with chromed parts.

SO this build has taught me a valuable lesson when dealing with the car builders out there...I have been spoiled by the newest armour kits.

Well, since my computer has been out of commission for the past couple of months, I've had time to work on my entry. I am in the process of putting decals on my Terry Labonte #5 Kellogg's Spooky Fruit Loops Chevy Monte Carlo. I had a few problems with the purple pearl paint bubbling up, and had to repaint it twice...
Like they say.. "Third time is a charm" , it really looks cool without the decals.... I can't wait to see the other cars !!!!

You know Joe, maybe I will go ahead and enlist in this one and try to finish my Peugeot.

Hmmm, can he make it boys and girls?

:)

Some shots of how far I am....yeah, not very far:

The paint has been curing for about a week, so I think since it's acrylic it's safe to put a few clear coats down on it. Then begin the decals.

BTW, this is my first car so it ain't gonna be pretty.

Guys...
Your posts are really inspiring.

I have an old Revell 1:12 '67 Corvette were I started on years ago. It was stashed away to finnish 'someday'. I searched for it today and found it again. It's about 70% done, but I want to convert it now into a racecar for this campaign. Is that allright with you?
If not, I understand because I did not build it specially for this campaign at that moment and I shall actually 'restoring' or rebuilding it more than building it from the start...
So, I leave it with the race officials to decide...

These are pictures of the model in current state:

Hey Paul I would not have a problem with that, just as long as your actually restoring into a race car. Be sure to have at least two, three in progress pics. Glad to have you on the track

Well I don't know where we're at at this time. With only 20 days left there were only 8 who replied to this thread out of the 25 whom enlisted. There were only 3 who posted in progress, and 2 who had posted their finished entry's. As for adding an extension... well I'm not sure, only one asked out of the 8 who did post to this thread. So what about you other 17! so where are we at.

There is a campaign gallery folder to post your pic's

I think the current finish shoul dbe ok with me. I am currently trying to finish up the main painting sections so I can move onto detail painting. No in progress pics yet, but you will know this is no ordinary car when I am done...

Because of my late entry, I'd of course not argue one bit with a "extended" race!

I hope to start on the interior after I airbrush the base colors on my Sturer Emil for the TD campaign.

Joe,

I am still staring at a box...in other words I'll never make the deadline. I can't expect an extension just because I have over extended myself...of course I wouldn't complain either.

I've got this 1/24 Tamiya Zakspeed Capri just begging for some time. I'd love to do this one right, I haven't airbrushed in years (and years), especially glosscoat.

Oh well, I love the Campaign, and I really hope this is the start of a series of automotive campaigns. This Campaign has got me interested in building cars again!

Hihaa!

I'm off! Got the green light from mother last week and I'm starting the conversion of my standard series '67 Corvette into a dragracer...

Because I made quit a few pictures, I made a new forum post in the CCC for it.
So, tune in and feel the pain at: Armorama 500 '67 Corvette

Yesterday I gave my Nascar Olds a second coat of paint. This evening I will start to mask of the body, for some custom paint work. I t will be a simple paintsceme, since I'm not yet that confident with my airbrush.

Mother,

Sad to say, I have to pull this machine into the pits...gonna have to take a DNF.

I am going to do a car now though, this Campaign has inspired me to build something...I am pretty sure my first kit was probably an AMT 1/25 Detroit car of some sort! Time to get back to the place I started!

Thanks Mother for taking a gamble and running this Campaign!

Jim
