No need for thanking me, Jim is the man who deserves the credits

The Amphibs gallery is now open, with some very nice pics in it already!

I'd go for the Desert tan...big vehicle, large surface, desert tank could look very cool with some good pre-shading....

Just a quick update. I'm trying to put my LVT (A) 1 entry into a diorama.

As you can see I'm having a leaking problem. I'm using sand to soak some of it up.

This is the overall view. An LVT coming to the aid of a drowned Sherman. So far I've used 5 water kits at $7 a shot and it looks like I have to use 5 more. I have to get it up to a point where it looks like the tank drowned after falling into a shell hole.

This side view shows alittle more. The sides will come off after it dries and I'll use some wood to cover up the bottom part.

Fun, Fun, :-)

Hope everyones gettin er done.

Hi all!

This will be my entry for the Amphibs Campaign: a Tamiya 1/48 Schwimmwagen.

It's my first "Armor" kit since... 25 years! I'm usually doing aircraft kits but I want to try dioramas as well and this will be my first attempt. In fact I decided it would be better to start with a small project so it will be more a "Vignette" once finished...

Below are in progress pictures of the kit, I'll work on the "mini" diorama next week...

The Tamiya kit is excellent and I only needed two days to finish it. I still have to add the decals and some weathering though...

Hi Klaus!

Sorry for the delay but I was away this week-end. Here is a bigger and hopefully better picture for you...
I added the decals meanwhile.

Nice indeed, lots of details to such small model....but i thing weathering or washes in the front will make the vehicle an even better one

One last ting to do before I'm completely finished. I need to caulk around the trim with clear just to hide the edges. Next trip to a store.

Here are some final pics;

Not bad all around. Learned alot on this project.

Thanks and good luck to all,
Bob

Hi Bob!

Great dio! I like the guy standing with a cigarette... nice cool pose. I suppose the wounded one was inside the Sherman and his head did hurt something while the tank slipped in that hole... nice idea...
Maybe you said that already in a previous post but what did you use for the water?

Thanks guys,

From someone I met once, "Why get wet and walk when you can ride."

I really like those tankers, I was saving those for another project but I just had to put them in. The water is the stuff you can but from Wal-Mart in the flower, hobby section. It's use is to make realistic looking water in a vase. It's $12 per 8oz. mix and I used 7. I really need to come up with a better way, I already have a few ideas.

Thanks Klaus but not good enough for a feature, as they say I know where all the bodies are buried. :-)

Thanks again,
Bob

Time for an update on my project:

I used pictures from several books (mainly "British tanks of WWII vol.2 - Concord Publications) to convert the LVT-4 to a Buffalo in British service during operation Infatuate II. You can see it doesn't look like the Italeri kit OOTB (at least I hope so hehe)

I've got future plans for adding a 20mm Polsten cannon, from Cromwell Models, but I've passed my modelling budget 3 times already this month lol

Wow, very nicely done. Great build. Will look sharp with the final touchs. One thing that I'm not 100% sure about, (I can't count high enough to be a bolt counter), there is a bilge pump outlet on every other LVT that I have references for. I don't have a reference for the LVT 4. Left side, on top of the boyancy tank (ponton), before the first return roller. I have a drawing showing this but no reference pics. It's the only thing that might be missing from a great model. If you need some pics showing where it goes let me know. It sure doesn't look like an OOTB Italeri kit. Really nice job.

Bob

I can't get in contact with Cromwell Models (keep getting the voice mail but no one awnsers) so I decided to stop waiting for the 20mm Polsten cannon which I want to add to my LVT.

I'm going to paint it now and add the 20mm at a later time, otherwise I won't make the amphibs deadline.

And in reality the 20mm cannons were added after the British forces received them from the US

Ribbon

Many thanks to Wildcard for desinging this great ribbon!

Thanks!
