Bottlerocket will be flying a dinky little P-51D and he will be shot down by myself flying an FW190A-3 and I will be assisted in the kill by Hockycoach flying his Bf 109G. :-) :-)
So, here is our entry:

++++++++++++
351 Squadron
Role: Fighter-Bomber/Close-air support

351 Squadron, RAF, was first formed at Benina, near Benghazi, in Libya in July 1944, as the 'Second Yugoslav Fighter Squadron'. Initial equipment was the Hawker Hurriciane Mk.IIc. The squadron later converted to the Hurricane Mk.IV, specialising in rocket attacks. In September 1944 it moved to Italy to join No.281 Wing of the Balkan Air Force and to complete its operational training. The first combat mission was flown on 13 October 1944. The squadron normally operated it's sorties from the island of Vis on the Adriatic coast and in February began to operate from a captured airfield on the Yugoslav coast. Initially operating in direct support of the Yugoslav National Liberation Army, in 1945 it concentrated on road, rail and shipping targets. In 1945 it formally transferred to the Yugoslav Air Force at Prkos on 15 June 1945, ceasing to be an RAF Squadron. Until the end of the war, the unit performed 978 combat sorties. Three pilots were killed and the unit lost 9 aircraft.

Air Bases: Base Duration
Benina, Libya 1 July 1944 - 22 Sept 1944
Canne, Italy 22 Sept 1944 - Feb 1944
Vis Island, Adriatic coast (Det.) 18 Oct 1944 - 5 April 1945
Skabrnje, Yugoslavia Feb 1945 - 5 April 1945
Prkos, Yugoslavia (Det.) 2 March 1944 - 5 April 1945

Fancy taking on a Revell 1/32 Bf109 trop? 1/72 is a bit small for the failing eyesight these days.

Correction, I'll be flying a P-51 B/ Mustang III...it's kind of hard to tell the difference between the B & D when it's bearing down on you from out of the sun...

No Problem Hockeycoach.
Eric, you want it, you got it!! If you are building Aegean Ghost then It needs an equal nemesis. Then I'll build a Ghost too. F4 takes only an F4 against it!!!!! You'll get a Phantom too.. YEEEEHAAA!!!!

PS: Hockeycoach. One more tip: You can edit your messages after you post them simply by clicking the edit button on the bottom of the message.
Correction: Sorry I wrote F16A for TuAF but our Falcons were C and D as I realized today.

Seems like JollyRoger's gonna have many opponents... While talking, he said he wanted to teach me a lesson and he invited me and my crew with my Tomcat to Top Gun... He will now understand how it feels like when an instructor and a veteran learns from his student!

I'm taking off with my F-14, just come and learn your lesson in your F-5F from the Aggressors Squadron!

Hi all!

Welcome to the new participants! Wow!.. with so many tracers in the sky it is difficult to keep an overview of all the duels!
I will try to update the table in the next couple of days...

Watch your six guys!

Hi Jean-Luc

OK, it's official.

AndyD and I will be duelling each other.

His is a Yak-1B, with markings for Lydia Litvyak (and gee, thanks for that Andy! Cos the year and a bit that she flew combat gave me a lot of options for opponents... )

And I'll be flying a BF 109G-4 with markings for Alfred Grislawski, 9/JG52, Russia 1942/43

BTW - question for the experts. Is there any structural differences between the G-4s flown by the Regia Aeronautica and the Luftwaffe in Russia?

Hi Jean-Luc

As you know, due to my workload, I've held off joining this build for fear of letting any dogfight partner down. I do plan to build a JG300 Bf 109G-6 this year though... So, although I won't commit at this stage, I might be able to provide an opponent if there's still a gap in the ranks later for such an aircraft.

All the best

Hi Yalım

I think they were the standard decals for one of the original Accurate Miniatures Yak 1 releases. I can check when I get home tonight. I've got plenty of other markings now, so I'll send you the sheet if you'd like.

All the best

Hi Yalım and Rowan

Rowan, you are correct in that the Accurate Miniatures Yak-1 kit has Lilya's decals included (Yellow 44, I assume but not sure). For the Yak-1B there is an AeroMaster set, #48423 with white 23. We got them from Hannants, UK.

Cheers

Hi all!

It's funny your are talking about Lydia Vladimirovna Litvyak as I just read an article about Soviet WW2 female pilots in the last "Aéro Journal".
In the magazine, there were two profiles of planes flown by her as well as some pictures of the young lady:

That's what I call a "femme fatale!" :-)8

Hi again!

Here's an updated table of all duels. As the sky is now full of planes it's quite hard to keep a good overview. So, if I made a mistake or forgot someone, I apologize in advance. Just tell me the errors and will edit the pictures.

Rowan, it's nice to have you with us! I placed you with Grypho and I hope you both don't mind. This will make a nice Bf 109 G6 "Rotte" and I think two will not be too much to down Klimmer's B-17G! If sometime during the battle you find another target, you can still let your "Gruppenführer" do the job alone...
I may enter the duel between AndyD's Yak-1b and wizard179's Bf 109 if they do accept. I wanted to build a 1/32 scale G-4 this year anyway and it's the plane of Erich Hartmann! This means Lydia Vladimirovna Litvyak will have to fight against Alfred Grislawski and Erich Hartmann of JG 52!!!! I know it's not fair, especially against a lady, but war is war isn't it!

Watch your six gentlemen... and ladies!

Hi Jean-Luc

I'm delighted to be Rottenflieger for Grypho. It takes a bit of the pressure off me - I'll join officially once I'm sure I can definitely contribute something. All being well, I'll be building Oblt. Kurt Gabler's unusual III./JG 300 aircraft.

As Wiz predicted, my Yak 1 is "Yellow 44" - so Yalım, you're welcome to the decals if they'll help. Just PM me with your address:

I told myself I was going to limit the campaign I joined because of limited time. Somehow I've managed to inlist for 6 builds before Christmas.

Jean-Luc, can I just go ahead and say that my partners have already shot me down and still get the ribbon? :-)

Hi Hermon!

I know what you mean! Armorama do produce "Campaign Junkies"! I'm also involved in 6 Campaigns before christmas and sometimes with multiple entries! Only for this Campaign, 6 people are building two models... but Jollyroger is in the lead as he is engaged in 3 duels!!! I think we should rename him after one of the Musketeers... maybe D'Artagnan? :-)

Jean-Luc

P.S. Guntruck just created a dedicated gallery for this Campaign. You can post your pics there. Three or four would be nice. One of the kit contents and boxart, two of the build and the last of the finished model of course. You can post your pictures in the Official "Duel" thread but also create other threads if you want. Just include the word "Duel" in the title so we can see them.
"Duel in the sky" gallery
Thanks guntruck!
