OK Charles I can't see what to add to all the above laudatory (and deserved) comments.
I got one question about the way you did the license plate. It is looking darn real !!

More LAV III pics. Thanks Jim
Olivier, the license plate is from Archer transfer. I rubbed it on a piece of styrene and then cut around the edges carefully and then weathered it after I glued it on the back hull. That's it Hope it helps.

Thanks for the clarification Jim. One question. Why then would you need the extra armor put on for those lavs that end up in Afganistan, for instance and none for other countries? Isn't it better to put armor on all? or is this to save money.

The add-on armour is applied based on the possible enemy threat assessment and mission to be conducted.
The add-on armour was attached to the Canadian LAV IIIs in both Afghanistan and Bosnia but not the UN mission in Eritrea.
The LAV IIIs in Afghanistan are involved in combat so the need for maximum armour. No need to attach it for training in Canada.

Okay, thanks Jason.
It seems both the trumpeter kit and AFV club do not have this extra armor, right?

No, it's molded on both. Here's a pic of the AFV-Club lower hull showing the plates of applique armour. The unarmoured/plain ones just have threaded mounting lugs, no obviuos plates.

Alright, I'm confused now. Jason just told charles that the lav he built could not be one that was active in Afganistan because charles model did not have the add-on armor. If the trumpeter kit does have it then why did he say it didn't? Or is he referring to something completely different? Just trying to understand this thing a little better. Thanks again.

I'll clarify....as posted in Jim's comparison images of the real vehicles....there is no add-on armour added to the turret of Charles' LAV III...it is on the hull.
So, it's kind of a hybrid in that the add-on armour is on the hull but not the turret. I don't think this would used operationally...it would be all or nothing.

Hey Jason, you're right. Thanks. I should have added the extra armor to the turret. At the time I did not think it was a significant part of the build. Now I do, if I wanted a proper representatin of a Afgan vehicle. I was careless but it seems to be a good lesson for those in the process of building a LAV III at the moment
As always Jason, your knowledge has played a vital role in my build and I very much appreciate it. I now know much more now than when I started on the build. Thanks again. I'll be seeking your help on my furure Canadian build. So don't stray too far...

Hooah, Charles!
Great build , it really does capture the look of this vehicle! Alot of hard work , but it was well worth it ! I like the empty water bottle , on the antenna, we put types of glow sticks , in the there, it helps prevent " friendly fire " incidents .

Great job anyway but there is another point that it scares me, I have a doubt about the upper hull I try to explain with pictures.
There is a step on the side just behind the exhaust tube grill that should not be there in my opinion.
Then the hull sides results too high, but I could be wrong.
Regards
Moreno
