Recycling Your Old Kits

Time for the dash to the finish - no more surprises??

Late King Tigers have additional framework on the front air intakes. The accurate construction of it was a big mess, especially as I had no pictures/drawings. I used a part from the Tamiya Porsche type as reference, just had to adjust the size/form used on Henschel types.

I used the Jagdtiger kit parts for exhaust pipes, exhaust pipes armor, tow shackles, Bosch light, tow cables. The tools were taken from Academy’s US and German equipment kit. The loaders hatch came from a Tiger I kit. All other hatches had to be scratch built.

Heinz did not insist on a super-detailed kit, although I must omit that after all the efforts it would have deserved it. I only used Tamiya etched parts for the air intake meshes.

Then it was time to try fit the fenders. OOPPPSSS!! They did not fit! The old Tamiya ones are segmented totally different in comparison to the newer ones and what is more important, they are smaller in height. The fender should cover the track resting on the wheels, but in my case it ended about 2mm above the track.

Also the front area of the fender mismatched with the rest of the tank.

ABER etched parts would have been the solution, but I did something else. I asked for some fenders from the new Tamiya Kingtiger and got them for free from my friend Christophe – thanks to Internet!!!  These fenders solved my troubles ..as the curved front parts were not supplied I had to scratch them.
