I've decided to do everything! I'm going to build my two Shermans and the King Tiger kit that i bought two years ago. I'm going to title it 'Tiger Hunt' I think. Try to have the Shermans get the mobility kill with the tracks and have some infantry from the 84th ID (my great uncle served with the Railsplitters) dropping grenades down the hatch. It will be set in the Ardennes; post Bastogne. I'll throw in some pictures of the kits soon. It will give me something to do during fall and winter breaks!

That sounds great, Michael. I am looking forward to see more on this one. It could be a real winter camo show case

@Randy: to bad about the kit. At least you have a nice winter crew and a flakvierling in you spares box. BTW the crew would go together well with some of all those German tracked AAA kits out there. Both Italeri, Dragon and Tamiya make a lot of kits that could be used with the crew.

I have a CMK Mobelwagen I'd like to enter -but it's already started. (The hull is glued together, and I removed all parts of the gun from the sprue. It's been standing like this since March.) I'd love it if it was acceptable, as I have a very good idea how I want to picture it. I've been toying with this since March, but didn't have the strength to go on. (The CMK parts are terrible.) So if this model is accepted, it would be a white-washed, deserted, frozen up vehicle.

I'm sorry I missed your post.
I think your build is quite advanced and it would be a bit unfair to other participants to accept model already built in more than 50%. I'm sure that your idea (which is great btw) can be applied to other model too.
For your unfinished model I can propose you GET THE JOB DONE campaign on Modelgeek

I sometimes plan way tooooo much. But, that can help things out in the long run. I like the ideas of these campaigns. It can get a person to try something new and maybe find a different direction. I have done Russian armour with winter camo before, so this one is a natural for me. But some of the others are different and I am going to give a couple others a shot.

Now, if I can come up with a good campaign idea of my own.

Well......actually the figures are gone as well. So I basically have a big box of spare parts!! However I may have a trade in the works with someone who can use it. So I will just have to decide on what to use for a replacement. I have a couple of ideas.

Thanks for the shared sympathy.

The only thing glued together is the two parts of the hull. But thank you. If anything else comes up, I'll build that then.

Sounds great! Personally, my favorite dioramas are snow/winter themes.

Funny, i dont know why, but I feel the same way too. Theres just something about a winter dio that stands out to me moreso than other dios.

Good choice, Jon.

I am making the Leopard I A4 in roughly the same camouflage. I think the biggest challenge will actually be to make the white wash look messy and hastily applied.

Cant wait to get started

Jon, if you need them I have several more shots of that same Marder in winter camo. I think what they basically did was to cover the Nato Black parts of the camo scheme with white (and they did it in a hurry it seems).

Emre, by any chance do you have some shots of Leopard 1 A4s in German winter camo?

Sorry, as I hadn't built any Leo1s, I didn't look for any reference pics...

However, the simple winterwash over Nato is done in two ways (at least on Turkish vehicles which also have the tricolor Nato). You either cover the whole vehicle in white (for heavy snow) or you switch one of the colors (generally the Nato Black) with white. As the Turkish Army likes doing everything by the book, chances are high that it is a standard procedure for Nato camouflaged vehicles.

It might be better to look for further information, however if I were you, I would basically find a Nato painting pattern for Leo1A4 then apply white over the areas that are supposed to be Nato Black. I will try to do some digging to see what I can come up with.

Jon, do you, by any chance, have closer shots of those Leo1A5s? We can test my reasoning that way.

Emre, after looking at the above photo, it appears that they also may paint over the black and the brown. Have you noticed any Turkish AFVs with that sort of scheme? I've never seen them like that.

EDIT: Sorry that was a single photo, I really wish I had some more close-up shots. I do think that the winter cammo may vary by unit, as I have a photo of a Marder covered in bed sheets!

Ok I have my kits...

1. Dragon 'Battle of the Bulge' Sherman (nice looking kit with some PE and a contingent of crew and infantry) -worth every penny in my opinion!
2. Tamiya 'Battle of the Bulge' King Tiger (okish kit with no PE and a contingent of winter crew and a motorcycle?) -got it for $20 so I am not complaining!
3. Tamiya 'Battle of the Bulge' M4-A3 Sherman with 105 (okish kit with tank crew and infantry in winter gear) -a little on the expensive side!
4. New tracks for the two Tamiya kits from AFV Club
5. Extra US weapons and small arms
6. All of my diorama materials; including a large picture frame, plaster, styrene sheets, etc.

Should be a fun build. Hope I am not in over my head!
