May I suggest that you replace the stubby streering column with a proper full sized one ( if you are planning on showing with the hood up).
Bruce
Bruce, I am not sure what a full size one would be. I extended it in the engine compartment from the original down to the bottom of the frame. You can see a view of the extended colummn in this photo. Is this what you mean?
Funny you said about the wheels, I just ordered the 8 hole version. I thought they might have the 6 hole version but wasn't sure. I have a few books on the way for reference but really want to build it the way I envision it more than keeping it exactly accurate. Also from the limited reading I have done, there were so many variations and field mods that almost anything was possible for the Opel Blitz. The concept was really just for my own amusement and to see if I could scratch some of the parts. I originaly saw the verlinden update for a workshop and thats what got me started.
I started this before even realizing what was available for AM parts (this will be my first use of full AM parts on a model). I had been out of model building for a few decades and when I was building them there was no such thing as PE or AM. I used to study the Shep Paine inserts fro ideas on customizing my models. I now have more AM than I know what to do with.
I may stick with the 6 hole version and save the AM wheels for a radio Blitz I have in the stash.
Thanks again for the comments as it really helps the motivation to complete it.

Duh.... My reference to the stubby column was directed at your earlier progress shots, and let me retract that statement, as I "give my head a shake"
and view your later pics, yes well done steering column looks great.

Yes I agree. Looking through my reference pics, these trucks seemed to change depending on when it was made and perhaps where it was made. It seems virtually every detail, big and small changed alittle bit through out the war years. So yes "anything goes"

Ok... life and not being able to find the camera battery charger has left me only able to post one picture.
I have for the most part finished the cab, weathering all but the bed of the truck and still need to complete a few of the details. I have only been able to devote a few hours a week but am hoping things slow down at work and I can finish this soon.
Also need to find the battery charger!
Enjoy and comment all you want.

I am Enjoying & learning alot from your work here and To say that this build is coming along nicely would be an understatement, Its AWESOME ! !! I like what your doing here, the detailing is Fantastic. I am hoping my Italeri Opel Blitz and the Verlinden workshop kits that I have will turn out 1/2 as well. Looking forward to your continued progress and the finished model.

I brushed Valejo Leather Brown letting in dry a short time and then stippling it with a brush to get some texture. Then brushed it with a lighter shade (almost light brown) in a few areas (not everywhere) and before it dried wiped it with a damp paper towel to blend it.
I then washed it with MIG Dark Brown wash. Then it was over all brushed with MIG pigment Gulf War Sand (which I am using for the whole model).

Another small update. Have found the battery charger for the cemera. So a couple of shots of the weathered components (not all completely done yet). Have spent most of my time weathering and working on detail parts.
Anyway... take a look. All comments welcome.
Also I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for the color of the ladder. I tried MM Wood (4673) but it blends so much into the side panel. I need a good color for wood.
Thanks,

Alan,
Yes, I found that site and am using as much as possible for reference. There was one model that was built from the Ironside that was good for the interior reference. I will put up a build blog as soon as I get the rest of the parts together to start it. I got it off ebay and it was partialy started already (only a the left side and rear panel glued in place).
Thanks for the help and comments.

Kevin, Looks real good so far. One thing, if you are using the old testor/ italaire kit be warned. The rubber tires will melt the syrene rims after awhile. Beter you got aftermarket items.

It's a shame that Kevin hasn't been on site since December 30th, 2008.
Hopefully all is well with him, and we'll all get to see this project finished.

Thanks for the interest.... funny thing is I just pulled it off of the shelf last week and have started finishing the last few details. I had gotten up to 90% done and then daily life interrupted my bench time and since late last year I have been working on a major project at work.
I will post updates later in the week, also will be continuing my Blitz Radio Bus.
Thanks again for all the interest,
Kevin
Bob,
Thanks for the advice, I will order a set asap.

That is great inspiration! I have bookmarked the link for reference as he has done wonders with the painting of the tools.
I am going to do my best. Really the only things I have left to do is some final finish work on the workshop frame (weathering) and finish making all af the detail parts for the workshop (tools, spare parts and misc detail parts).
Also a base (diorama) will be in the works also.
Thanks again,

Kevin, any chance you can repost the construction photos? I'm starting a very similar build and got all excited by the few photos that are at the start of this thread... the rest are broken now. D'oh!

Sorry, I don't think I still have the photos (they were on a server i no longer maintain). I may have them on some storage media, but it was so long ago i will have to try and dig them out. If i find them i will repost them.
