Is anyone aware that for a model of a Landrover, any company would almost certainly have to sign a royalties agreement with the company?

Accurate Armour have a similar agreement. So...

Is this just limited to car companies? I have never heard of a royaly agreement with BAE Landsystems, General Dynamics, KBTM, KMW, etc... not saying they aren't being done, but it seems like royalty agreements only come into play when dealing with the likes of Landrover, Jeep, NASCAR

I want a land rover sooooooo badly, not only for a British vehicle but all for "non traditions uses" like PLO vehicles.

Ahh, the ol' Land Rover debate...

Quoted Text

I'd like to see a British Army lightweight version. I drove these and standard versions on Salisbury Plain

I drove a Lightweight, in the Netherlands Army. Great fun, and I'd love to make a model of it one day.

As for the Royalties, Accurate Armour don't just 'pay royalties' for the privilege of using the Land Rover name and logo, but produce the Land Rover kits with full cooperation from Land Rover. Unlike other companies, who will just take the money and shut the door, Land Rover has given Accurate Armour all assistance needed to create was is arguably a very Accurate kit. Not perfect, but very close...
As for the cost, I think that around £60 (depends on model, and where you buy from ) for a fully detailed, high quality, multi media kit is not unreasonable. A lot of money, yes, but not expensive for what you get.

you don't get this kind of detail in a £20 pound kit.
I'll have to dig out the picture of the engine that I have somewhere

And for those wishing something different:

I think that it is only a matter of time, before a plastic manufacturer releases a plastic kit.

Thanks James,

no, not a scratch build (although it should not be to difficult with the right base kit), it's a resin kit from Mountford Metal Miniatures in 1/43.

Totally down with the idea of Land Rovers in plastic.

My vote goes to the Skippy variant used by the ANZACs in South Viet Nam.

(But I guess an International ACCO 4x4 or 6x6 in styrene will be a long way off...)

cheers

Count me in for the petition as well. Drove the Marshall bodied BFA variant in Afghan last year. Fairly rocks about when a Chinook comes over low !!

I have a resin 1/35 Series 3 Lightweight with a Wombat A/T gun in my stash, will have to dig it out to see who manufactured it. It's been in there a while !

My vote goes also for some plastic lovin' for the land rover... Any modern type is fine with me. A decent 110 would also come in handy

Oooh yes please.

I'd like a Discovery series 2, facelift model. Bit of rust on it and a nagging water leak through either sunroof and an oil leak from anywhere underneath. Bugger to start sometimes and drives with the aerodynamic ability of a small apartment block.. Although handy in the recent weather. - Wait a minute, I've already got one !

In model form though, I'd like any of the NI variants in plastic (£60 for a resin hotspur - please !) or at least a decent LWB Defender as a base for conversions.

We can but dream.

After a year of this petition's existence, no news of Defender Aussie style or Brit style in Afghanistan.. $25-30 range sounds reasonable. It took 30 yrs. for M3 half-track to come out so let's keep on trying (hopefully, it won't take that long.) Ha ha. Happy modeling!

Count me in!

A nice basic 110 would be great.

A wide bodied perentie would be just brilliant.

ADD ME to the list, any landy would do.
Actually a nice series 1 would be nice as well.
I wonder at £20 a model, how much it would cost to do landy's from series1 through to defender wmiks? And the other main variants.
I think that if some manufactorers did a few basic models kitted out with basic figures and kit/weapons,it wouldn't take long for the after-market crews and bits to appear and then it would/could be left to the modeller to buy or not according to their budget or want.
It seems to me that some of the contributers here have forgotten that modellers are a resourceful bunch and that whilst they can't all afford wonderful AA resin kits, they may be able to afford a PE kit and /or make the rest of the vehicle equipment from their bits box etc...

As much as I would like to see a TUL/TUM (Wolf) Land Rover in plastic I would prefer to see an injection moulded Defender. There are differences between the 1st and 2nd variants the main visual one is the roof, and mechanically it was discs all round on later ones. The Defender by choice as the older SAS DPV's (Gulf 1) were all based on this chassis, prior to WMIK. That and I have lots of pictures of the remaining SAS DPV still held by the Regiment.

All that and I lived in,on and fell off the Defender for a long time.

Regards

Brian
