Hi,
It's been a while but life finally got me... finally.
a mini update just to say "Hi"
Thanks to Eddy's comments and Herberts explanations I was able to backdate the hull a little more by modifying the front and rear area meant to house shackles (rear not visible). Just a quarter with milliput and the thing was done. Easy to do but hard to see if you don't know you should take a closer look on it.
a very clear shot of the front on the Bovington's T II
a usual "winter camo" by Mr surfacer 1000
the mantlet has been treated with Mr Surfacer 500 and an old brush so there is a nice texture now bit I'm not sure it can be clearly seen
the XF-9 Hull red mixed with some flat red was used for priming. During next steps of painting I'll try to keep it visible in some worn places, edges etc.
Hope to be back soon.

Spit, did you also alter the rear hull towing points? Those were cut different as well like those on the front of the hull.

almost a month of break
but here I'm
ok let's be serious, the big works at home are finished and garage was cleaned up
This is first time I used Vallejo paints with my airbrush. The colors are incredible, the choice from tamiya is really poor comparing to Vallejo. The only thing is that Vallejo are not the easiest paints to use. I thinned them like 3:1 or a little bit more but still I had some little drops all over around so I guess it was nt thinned enough (I used the original Vallejo thinner). If anyone has any clue how they should be thinned just let me know. Oh once again the plan of subtle painting is... gone
for the base colour I used:
sand yellow, buff and white
the outcome is ... interesting, it's a little funny looking but I like it and IMHO it will make a nice base for further painting, fading and weathering. Oh, the Vallejo paints has a big advantage of heaving nice satin texture. It will greatly ease some future operations.
the next step is the turret camo. I'll start masking tomorrow. I hope it will be quick and easy.
thank you for watching

Hi Pawel, good to catch up with you and the King Tiger Looking god I must say... Have you tried any of the Vallejo Air range or Panzer Aces yet as opposed to the standard range? These spray straight from the bottle in the case of the 'Air' range, and once again have a great range of colours. I will be 'comparing' them against other brands on the multi-Tiger build, excellent products indeed. Right gotta blast!
Catch you later. Phil.

Hi,
Neil, thanks for the link I found some nice goodies there. They say that for airbrushing modelcor range one may dilute it like 2:1... no it's not enough...
Dan,
thanks for your comment. I think you use vallejo air range. I use for now valejjo color so I need to dilute it .
Phil,
thanks for the comments. No, I haven't tried anything else from the vallejo range. What's keepeing me out from the air range that for the same money you get much less paint (it's already diluted). I know it's more convenient if pre diluted but... maybe I'll give it a try one day.
So finally I found that Vallejo should be diluted like 20-30 % paint 80-70% thinner. Anyone has some other experience with the vallejo Color range?
thank you all

Patafix party is finished
the party step by step:
Phase 1
Phase 2
Phase 3
The end
There are some imperfections but I hope they will disappear or will be less visible after all the weathering I think about.
I have some second thoughts about painting the hull. "Less is more" like some used to say. I'll speak about it in few days I hope.

Yeap Xmas will do Haven't said which year :cough: :cough:
Now, after the Bohemian End (I still try to make a simple base ) I used to long discussions about the "under" zimmerit surface. In this build there will be much more to discuss...
This evening I painted the unzimmerited places with a redish paint (Vallejo Cavalary Brown). I've chosen a lighter tan as I don't want it to become way too at the end.
Now as I said before I had some second thoughts about how to paint the hull. Before I painted this I imagined how it would look like with all those red areas + yellow base +... some camouflage. IMHO it would be too messy. I find this mix of colours (including turret) enough. Now it's just time to give it right form with washes, filters, chipping and... and here we get to the Xmas thing
cheers

Wow, your lower hull seems to have developed quite a serious skin condition!
I'm a little worried that the dunklegelb is too light, could be the photos but it looks almost white. Shame to see the camo go too, messy would be good in my opinion for this build, and would hint at the lower hulls 'past life'.
Also while i'm being picky - the turret camo doesn't extend onto the end of the mantlet which looks a little wierd.
Did you decide the gun will match the lower hull? No chance at seeing it in glorious black-grey primer?
Have fun,
James

Hi,
Martyn,
thanks for the credit, I appreciate your comment.
James,
The light yellow hull was intended to sa it is. But don't worry, oils and mig filters will change it a bit. It will be darker. However I don't know if you have seen a colour picture of a knocked out Pz IV (in Italy I guess). Man! The guy was pale! I'll post the pic if I find it.
Hmm you think so? I will give it another thought. How about some green stripes like on those TII from Fkl316?
I was awaiting this shot I left the barrel not painted at all for now as I haven't decided yet what to do. Few ideas:
1.I could follow the camo pattern on the turret with green stripes as seen on the russian book pictures,
2. I could make a similar stripes as above but in rotbraun (the barrel could come from another vehicle),
3. The black/grey primer (I thought about the panzer grey to not to go too far on the dark side) While it would look nice the weathering would be limited in visibility...
must make up my mind
any comments welcome

Hello Pawel,
my idea about painting the areas without/ felt off Zimmerit were to paint it in different colours.
a) Light grey for slightly damages
b) Hull red for the surface
c) A gray tone which would be similar to Panzerstahl for damages down to the steel.
Further I would recoat the larger hull red areas with spots of Zimmerit and then abrade it with a knife or a small screwdriver blade.
That could improve the look of both spalled Zimmerit and a worn battle machine in total.
Anyway - good luck Pawel
