Please tell us:
-what brand of paint you used for your figures
-what colors each component of the figures are
-how you painted the helmets.
I am thinking about painting a Vietnam figure for a school project.
Thanks

I really like the work!
I have a couple of minor detail suggestions:
1. The black on the boots should be mostly scuffed off. after a couple of weeks of wear the boots had and almost white/grey/brown look....depending upon whether the unit was in sand or mud.
2. Grunts were usually dirtier than you show them. They lived in the dirt. Many had their uniforms died almost read by the mud. Sort of a red stain showing through the green. Same for the camouflage covers on the helmets.
3. The faces look pretty old for Vietnam-era grunts. These Viet grunts were mostly teenagers, even the sergeants and corporals. Lieutenants, captains and staff NCO's were usually in their 20's, with some of the more senior SNCOs in their early 30's.
I hope this helps. I wish I had your skills.
Semper Fi,
Dave

Dave,
I completely agree with you (I was waiting for a post like this
Problem is, if you go for 100% accuracy with regard to weathering there is a danger that all the uniform will blend into one colour. I have to take a bit of artistic license, I am afraid. However, all the figures are finished in their "base" coat and then will be weathered when the M48 is painted and weathered so they blend in and the diorama composition will be seen as a whole rather than a few figures sat on a tank. We'll see if it works
Appreciate your comments on the "age" of the faces, I will try and get some of the hornet heads with a more youthful look for the remaining grunts.
Thanks for your post.
Andy.
James, should be at Cosford - might even have something finished !

Hi Andy, just wanted to say I think you're doing a great job! Don't lose enthusiasm, you're figgys are just as nice as MC's. I should know, I use his figgys to build the commision work for a friend of mine. He's been friends with MC for years now and MC sends him a box of new figgys every couple of months. I put a link below for you to see the dio I did for him on the Marines fighting in Hue city. Your figgy work is dang good, so take heart my friend.

Thanks for that Ed, your work is really nice. I particularly like the composition of your dio, guess you can never get tired of seeing that verlinden ruined villa
I have had a couple of email conversations with MC and he is a very helpful guy, very willing to share his techniques - kudos ! I just wish he would slow down a bit Every time I get a diorama idea, he has already done it !!.
Anyway, back to the plot - I have stalled a bit at the moment, that is what comes of painting all of those Marines in the same colours. So I took a break and I am nearly finished painting a LRRP figure in ERDL camouflage fatigues. OK, it's still a figure but the colours are different. As soon as it is done (should be this week) I'll be back on to the grunts.
Thanks for your support !
