I am really happy to present a WIP of the forthcoming M1078 from Trumpeter.
I would like to thanks them to sending me this kit.

I will follow the instruction book step by step and for a fair judgement it will be a OOB

Step 1

The main frame, really easy build you have to take care to not cut the air line valve (part B3) and to remove the seam line on the 2 big components of the mainframe part F2 and F41. There are some injection pin to sand in the inside if you want to depict the vehicle upside down if not you will not see them: up to you.

Finally you got your M1078, even though it isn't perfect I'm sure AM companies are scrambling as we speak. Resin front doors, interior etc. would certainly fix this up.
I notice that some of the parts in your assembly pictures are a different colour than the main frame, is this a different material or just different colour styrene?
I know there are many modellers poised to jump on this release.
I'll keep an eye on your build.

Yep it is Xmas for me since I scratch it.
the color is due to less pigment is the PS i presume but it is PS.
AM parts for sure, I will let you know when I will have more info.
But concerning the wheels Pro Art has them in resin

And they will release an upgrade kit see the web site

Step 2
The suspension.
It is interesting to see that the attachment point on the sprue all of the armotissor are made on the visible face of them and you need to take a particular care to not destroy the part

This can be improve by Trumpeter.

Step 3
the rear light support plus the suspension, the tension bars are made with about 10 parts really nice work and high level of detail.
The exhaust is nicely detailed with the final piece open

you can see some horrible seam lines, I cannot tell you if it is because of misalignment of the molds and it is a pre-production sprues, but I really hope that will be fix before commercialization because it is really time consuming. I left one deliberately on tension for better understanding, it will be sand anyway.

End of the suspension and the assembly of tension bar and the front

And finally the fuel tank you need to take care to sand off the seam line on the front of the tank



Enjoy even if nobody like it or the quality of Trumpeter is bad

Step 6 & 7
I skip the wheels

Attachment of the air filter and air tank you need to be careful to attach the PE of the air filter to the bottom of the airtank it is not mention on the instruction:





Winch and fuel tank, it is a pity that the winch doesnot come with a cable but you can easily fix it

Step 8
Boxes and air filter support
When gluing the perpendicular bar to the mainframe it was not square so I have to push hard to put in place and apply excess of glue (right hand side of pics) but it look square to me before so I dont know what happen.








Step 9
Flat bed, really easy to buils it but you need to remove some pins ejector marks, BTW the part number than can be improve is G6 not G4.



Then you need to glue 26 hooks so small that they look like PE part, Trumpeter provide you with 34 of them in case of the carpet monster is around the modeling room.

I have been wondering if the transerval part was glue correctly because I tried to push the upper part but you can see the result


The upper plastic part does not insert very well in place and by comparing with the walkaround from prime portal


You can see it is totally square, so you need to really sand the wall to achieve a complete insertion and not have such ugly result.

I am really happy to see so much interest on this particular subject and blog.
Bringing to you this model that did hit the shelve yet is very important for the network and It seems that you agree with me on that

Step 10 end of the flat bed
Step 11 the seats.
You need to remove all the seam lines and ejector pins that can be seen it is a tedious work but need to be done
You can display the seats open or close and you have the small PE part to present the lock

Working on the poor cabin very simple on every aspect.
I am wondering why Trumpeter did a bad job with the TM online plus my photo from the real vehicle dont understand

The dials are wrong and misplaced the two boxes at rear are pure imagination and the windshield is also wrong

Looking good Seb shame about that poor interior Seb this is where the Aftermarket could step in but its annoying that they cannot get it right in the fisrt place

It looks like a generally good kit, although as you note, Seb, the interior is somewhat of a disappointment. That said, it's light-years ahead of the vacuformed Steyr truck you used for your mother ship.

6 months of work on the vacuform kit and one week on the trumpeter kit and if you are going to make the SF mothership you really dont care about the poor cabin since there is not more a cabin hihihii

Those two boxes are not at all pure imagination, they are quite real in fact. They are there for any BII that we can not store on the passenger side compartment. Quite often, they turn into MRE holders, a place to put our TMs, or other equipment we would like to be secure as they are able to be locked with a 5200 series lock. Also, the 1078 does not come equipped with the dial for vehicle angle, only the LMTVs capable of hauling a trailer are so equipped. Also, after seeing the windshield picture, what you took a picture of is not a 1078, or atleast any 1078s we have (the U.S). That is the above mentioned MTV, not sure of the nomenclature but is the one so equipped for hauling a trailer
