Great Idea RobI gonna follow your work.I have a AAVP waiting the same painting treatment, and this thread will certainly help me finishing it. Cheers Seb

If you are planning on doing this with an AAVP, you might want to re-think that as once they start burning they usually don't stop and can't be put out. There is usually nothing but roadwheels or parts there-of left. Saw more than a few examples of them in this condition while I was in Iraq. Same for the Bradley. Just a suggestion.. "Q"

I've been researching how to paint a burnt out M1 and I've been reading up this brilliant thread. Early on the author describes how he applied HS. Sorry for ignorance but what is HS

Hairspray. You apply it over a gloss coat and let it dry. Then, you can scratch or rub the next couple of layers of paint off, to reveal the underlying cote.

I don't believe any were total losses.

From US Army After Action Review:

"As of March 2005, approximately 80 Abrams tanks have been shipped back to the United States for repair due to fire from enemy attacks. Nevertheless, the campaign saw very similar performance from the tank with no Abrams crew member being lost to hostile fire during the invasion of Iraq, although several tank crew members were later killed by snipers and roadside bombs during the occupation that followed."

After late '05, most armored vehicles were replaced with MRAPs for patrolling.
