Last Defense post reading I read, there are only a very limited number of the M1200s produced (32 I believe). New World Miniature made a resin kit, but it isnt out to the modeling community in huge numbers. I believe we only made 50 odd resin bodies for that variant.

I spent a few hours this last weekend working up my ASV, and wanted to share a few observations about the kit:
Anyone expecting a casual build is in for a surprise. There are a lot of parts, and multiple layers using plastic and PE to build sub-assemblies that get attached to the main hull at the appropriate time.
I found that the instructions covering the main axle/suspension units to be less-than clear, and the multiple parts that comprise the unit, although similar in size and shape, are "handed" and will make for fit challenges later if not correctly assembled. I can personally vouch for this, as both axle spindles were assembled with the connecting pins for other suspension arms facing the wrong way. Fortunately I was able to seperate the joints, dis-assemble and reverse the affected parts, and re-assemble. Did I mention I did sweat a bit during this??
There is not a lot to re-assure the builder that the axles will set straight, until the axle assemblies are finally set onto the bottem of the hull. From that point, things begin to make sense.
When assembling the rear taillights and guards, there is nothing for the CA to grab onto to hold the edge of the housing to the guard. That led to a broken guard, which I'll have to cover using rod stock.
The PE intake screen cover has an additional bend across the top, running right-to-left, that you may not notice. It fits with or without the bend, just thought you might like to know about it beforehand.
There are a lot of subtle seams on each part, meaning a lot of time will have to be expended in clean-up of each part. I considered replacing the Mk 19 and .50 cal barrels with AM, but when I used the plastic items, they seemd to carry the thought, and I'll keep this one stock for possibly a box-stock entry at the local contest.
Next weekend should bring paint! Any suggestions for the in-theatre sand color on the M1117?

For my Challegner 2 I will be using Tamiya:
3 Parts XF-60 Dark Yellow and 1 part XF-3 Flat Yellow.
Turns out nice. You could highlight with Tamiya Buff

Testors Model Master Sand, FS 33531 is a near-perfect match for CARC Sand as used on modern US vehicles. Once weathered, it looks spot-on.

Thanks Gino. I hope to get color on this weekend. I'm working on the MP campaign and this will be the last vehicle in the set (M-8, Willys, M38A1, M151A1, M151A2, M1025, V-100 and M1117).

I got my Guardian kit in on the 4th sorry so late telling you all. I also see that there has bean a price drop on the kits. From 34.99 down to 28.45. Why is it when you buy a kit at a high cost it drops just after you get you order. "RRRRRR" Any way the 3 solders from the concept photo are not in this kit. If you want them you have to get the Modern USA Armor Crewmen/Infantry kit. I'm going to use the info you guys have posted here to help in my build. I must say that there are parts in the kit that are wraped in fome an there is a PE set in the kit for well look here:
Thanks a lot guys, seb43 the builder and info & photos by Mrosko and otheres.

Guy's I thought I'd throw in my build so far, I'm normally a wing thing or braile scale builder but could not resist this. Since the photos were taken it has recieved a coat of primer.
And replacement ariel mounts from RB models.
Ciao

Test fit parts 2, 4, 9 & 15 first. If I'm remembering correctly the instructions have them switched.....
Looking good Luciano. I'm still waiting on the turret.....
Cheers,
Sean

Hay Littorio those RB Models Antena mounts look grate. I have to get them as well. An "35th-scale" I will test fit, thanks man for the heads up. Now you all know on some of these units they use cable as well as link chains from the winch.
I hopping from looking around the net and asking if any one has photos of the engine bay with and with out the engine in place, I'll get some feed back on my inquiries. Wish me luck.

Jim made some exellent points.
I thought this was going to be a pretty straight forward build, but noooo.
The instructions are far from easy to understand and I think you will find that the steps are not in the correct order. The tail lights are a horror story.Losing one and having to scatch the other.A lot of the parts could and should have been molded as one piece.
It has taken me a lot less time to complete an Abrams than the M1117 has.
I still stongly believe in Trumpeter and thank them for their releases of modern armor.
I'm glad I purchased two.The second should be much easier.
Happy holidays to all and have patience.

Sorry for the delay. My Reserve unit's missions for the year are about to kick-off next week, and I haven't had a lot of time to address the M1117. On the side, I was able to fine-tune my V-100 a little, getting it ready also for the base color coat on the exterior. The interior is complete, including the turret w/basket. If I can wrangle the camera from the Mrs, I'll try adding a shot or two of that as well.
My goal is March ValleyCon in Pasadena with the M-8, V-100 and M1117 showing "the more things change, the more they remain the same".

I am about 99% done with mine. I found it to be somewhat of frustrating build, especially with some of the pe parts.
I am satisfied with the result of my build. I will be putting it in a diorama with the latest trumpeter figure set and some verlinden accessories.
Thanks
Mike
