Hi All

I build mostly aircraft but once in a while I add a military vehicle (1/48 scale) to the collection. recently I finished Tamiya's Komatsu G40 and it was a lot of fun and as I just had received the Marder III Ausf. M kit I started it right away (last saturday).

Airbrushed Lifecolor Sandgelb and a first wash in GW Devlan Mud just for some structure.

Sure this will not be up to the standard of most of the Armorama residents, but I hope you can bear with me. Here are some more in progress shots. It is gloss coated now and ready for the decals and further washes. The hand painted blotches look horrible at the moment but this will be better once it got the full treatment...

the lower hull already gut some "Europe Dust" (MIG prod) as the area behind the road wheels is hard to reach after these are on...

Steffan,

Nice work so far - is that really 1:48 scale? I'd have thought 35th...

I take it markings come next?

Thank you Tom!

Yes it is 48 scale and yes markings are next, but I'll let it dry for a few hours before I proceed.

As I wrote the uneven surface looks really bad at the moment, but this will be better after a few more coats: Klear, washes, flat clear, pigments... detail painting will also help to make it look less toylike

all the best

Hi guys, Finally got around to taking the photos of the Hetzer. Then I remembered that I forgot the clear coat which I put on after the photos. I guess the painkillers are killing more than just the pain. But here we have it
The mud on the tracks is not that bright that must be from the flash
and like I said above don't have a airbrush yet so the camo was done with a spray can and masking tape
comments suggestions for improvements. I have already learned so mush from you guy here and have always gotten great advice. Cheers

Hello Sal,

I noticed that your muffler looks like a muffler, something that took me some time to accomplish and I am sill working on the effect. Nothing like practice practice practice someting that seems to be an ongoing love/hate relationship for me. Keep it up Sal and I am keeping you in our prayers for the ankle operation

Sal,

That Hetzer looks nice! And you're right about flash distorting colours. If your camera allows aperture-priority and you have a tripod, the difference in colours can be dramatic.

My Achilles is almost finished. Just few more touch ups that means few hours spent on thinking what should I do more and few minutes spent on doing this.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the prayers, I'll take all the help I can get . The muffler was painted with Testors Steel that had some flat Black added to it. Then a wash some Testors Rust and then a wash of acrylic black. Cheers

Hi All

I progressed a bit. Weathering is not yet done, but it already looks a bit better. I jusst started work on the echaust and the running gear also needs a lot more work I want it dusty with a bit of hardened mud sticking to the gear - just as if they drove through mud hole in summer...

Hello Steffen,

You said this is in 1/48 tough scale for me in armor, I like the dirt/dust on the tracks and espcially like the effect on the muffler. Nice build

Thank you Bob!!

Well, 48 is "my scale" no matter what subject as long as it is quarterscale. So I have a certain "feel" for it. And it is nice to compare a Tiger to a Bf 109

As for the shots: this really is WIP! I felt the dirt to be overdone and the muffler gets a "homemade" heat shield. All in all I do not strive for a super detailed model but rather a nice representation -- maybe thats where the "bad feel" about 48 comes for many die hard 35scalers ... OTOH there are a lot of superb models of very gifted modelers out there (just have a look at the fine work over at ML or Track48 forums or even here I am still amazed by sticky's dead cow dio)...

all the best

Steffen, I have found that with my eye sight getting worse

1/35 is easier for armor.
1/48 has always been my choice for a/c
1/32 a/c are just too big for my living area

and they all are a pain when it comes to my big fingers trying to attach any small part. but hey! just as long as I enjoy myself then it is worth it.

The Hornet is finally complete after a fair bit of huffing annd puffing.

The markings are for Cyclops Squadron of 2RTR circa 1962-5 and are from the scrap box or home made.
The shark's teeth are modellers/artistic licence, although the preserved Hornet discribed by Clive Elliott in his WarWheels article apparently had a set discovered under the paint during restoration.
The figure (Norman the last National Serviceman) is cobbled together from Ian Hanratty's WeeFiends para figures with a Hornet head/Helmet and his L2 Sterling is again cobbled together from items in the Dragon Vietnam infantry weapons set.
This has been a superb campaign with a large number of fine builds.

Hi All

Here is a picture of the finished thing. To prevent clogging up this thread with pictures I started another one in "AFV/48 scale": Marder III Ausf. M 1/48 Tamiya

Tom, do I need to do something else to make this one count for the campaign?

Steffen, Mecanix, & Sal,

Now that you've done all that excellent work, you need to put at least one picture in the official Campaign gallery to qualify. If you haven't done this before, go to the Photos tab on the banner (right next to the Forums tab), then scroll down to where it says Campaigns and click on it. Choose the "Currently Active Campaigns" category, then scroll down to Tank Killers, and the photo gallery will open up. You will need to log in again (at top right - I don't know why it isn't automatic) before it offers the option to "Upload Photos".

Let me know if it doesn't work...

Steffen, that a nice little 1/48 of yours there. Good job.
Tom I have photos uploaded on my page how do I move one over to the campaign page or do I have to separately upload another one to the campaign
Thanks

Sal,

Not sure if you can move pics between galleries in the network - I've always uploaded my "qualifier" pic separately to the Campaign, and it then also appears in my personal gallery.

The obvious flaw with the way the galleries work is that Campaign pics also eat up your personal gallery space (learned it the hard way!), so eventually you would need to start deleting them which leaves only a frame with a nasty red X where the pic used to be in any postings. I keep all my build pics on Photobucket to save space, and only one pic gets uploaded in the Campaign gallery just to qualify for the ribbon.

Hope this makes sense!

Finished the faces... it's been a while since I have done a figure. Overall I'm not unhappy.

Rich,

Nice work on those faces! (I hate trying to do eyes - I can never get them the same size...)

If it wasn't for the tunics these guys could be from either war - big AT rifle, clustered grenades, all to kill tanks. Could be Cambrai in 1917...

Thanks for the compliments all,

Last night I got further on the figs, but I think I want to wait until they're done to post more pics, which by then will be time to think about a vignette scene.

Hi, all,

Got some pics of the past weekend's progress on my M36B1. I've now finished the hull interior, and am ready to prime & paint both the hull & turret so I can close them in and crack on with the outside! However, I am no longer confident that I'll make the 6 June deadline...

"Closed up", note the casting numbers:

...and some casting numbers on the nose, while I was at it:

All this work, and I may yet fail to get the ribbon...

I just had a quick check in the Campaign gallery, and currently we have a dozen models posted. I know there are several more in progress (like my own), but with 81 enlistees I can't help feeling there's a lot of folk out there who haven't shown signs of life.

So, is there anyone else with work in progress that hasn't been seen yet?

Also, with a month to go, is everyone comfortable about the deadline? Scream now if you want to talk about extensions...

Tom
