Hi Art, Jessie,

Some grand looking German there, lots of great stuff going here folks.

I haven't done anything else to my Paras yet!!, but I have finished these two: 2 tankers from 144th Royal Armourd Corps, 33rd Armoured Division, they are the Ultracast figures sculpted by Pete Morton.

Looking good, Alan!

What are you planning on doing this time? A complete British armoured division??

Nice looking figure, Zaltar.
Maybe add a dark (brown) wash to the figure to give it some shadows?
One more like these and you made it!

Joel, the figures look good. Just the shadows on the commanders face look quite harsh, especially around the mouth.
The second figure's face looks spot on!

Billy, your figures are improving. Keep it up!
And yes, pictures do show details like that without mercy.

Andy, it's not that late. The campaign runs untill june and more than half of the men enlisting still have to get started.
As for your figures, I must admit that at first they were 1/35. Detail looks quite good.

Jessie, I do remember those Desert Rats. I did them once, too... a long time ago..
I must say that the faces of the first 2 guys look very good. The hardest point in a figure and it has been tackled splendidly.
I also like the dark skinned fellow.

I still have to do my figures to finish my dio, but since I am at home without a job, I couldn't set my mind to it, really...

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thougth too, nice to know that my "painting eyes" aren't that off.
I must admit that I'm quite pleased with the second one, my best 1/35 figure, so far...

I too am "in between jobs", which kind of sucks sometimes. But I find that painting a figure or building a kit can take your mind of things, and a campaign like this can really get you of your ass.
Great campaign by the way, it really motivated me to get these two guys done.

Thanks for the tip Ron, I haven't yet put a coat of clear over the figure, and I was intending to put a wash over it anyways. Next up is the infantry figure also included in the kit.

Hi Ian,

Thanks I will try and get you some close ups. The AOS and divisional signs were hand painted and the ranks from the Archers set.

Hi Ron - Now there's a possibility

I do have these folks washed and read to build: I'm thinking of using them instead for my 144th RAC Shermans I'm atttempting to get finished off:

Plus a sitting tanker I have that might work in the drivers hatch.

I do have a Platoon of Shermans!!!, perhaps a Squadron next

More great stuff folks.

Cheers

Here is my second figure, ready to be painted. He's going to be a medic, but I have yet to decide what Regiment he will be serving in:

Hi Guys,

Some progress on the tankers. I though they might make a better frew for my Hybrid and M4 Mk I Shermans.

and a couple more:

Still a ways to go, for some reason I attached the heads before painting them lol, lol.

Here's the pics of my Medic from the 3rd Canadian Division, South Saskatchewan Regiment, NW Europe, Winter 1944-45:

I apologize for the poor quality of my pictures; I'm not a very good photographer... Although, how do like the background for the last three pics? It's my 50th anniversary edition of The Lord of the Rings, and the cover looks like a studio background!

As for my paints, I use Deco-Art craft paints. They're cheap ($1), widely available from craft stores, and have no atrocious smell. Best of all, they come in all different colors. As you can see on my website, I use them for all of my projects.

This has been a really fun campaign, and a great excuse for learning to "paint my troops" better!

Thanks for hosting this campaign, Ron!

Good afternoon, Company!

As (maybe) you would remember, I was making, for this campaign, the Verlinden German Radio Team WWII... just two resin figures.

Some "pages" ago I showed how I send to the trash bin the strange (an useless ) platform that one of the guys had beneath him...

Now... its now or never ! how have I painted Erbensmuster or Dot-44 camo pattern...

This is the first time I´ve painted a Dot-44 camo pattern...

After a little of "Research", this is what I think is a coherent painting sequence:

I.- I have primed my figures with Vallejo Chocolate Brown: I thought it is an adequate base colour for what I was intending to do in the next stages:

II.- Now I´ve made a mix of two parts of Vallejo Yellow Olive (70892 - 087) an one part of Vallejo Grey Green (70866 - 165): with this mixture I´ve painted the first "real" color of the uniform: I´ve painted completely the figures with this mixture. Let´s call this color "base green".

III.- Painting "Amoebas #1": I´ve elaborated a "medium green", with this mixture: four parts of Vallejo Yellow Olive (70892 - 087) plus one part of Vallejo Dark Yellow (70978): this way we get a lighter green, wich is painted in amoebas shapes over the "base green".

IV.- Painting "Amoebas #2": Directly with Vallejo German Camo Pale Brown (70825-144): we paint amoebas shapes over the "base green", but not over the "Amoebas #1"

V.- Painting "Amoebas #3": Directly with Vallejo German Camo Black Brown (70822-150), but not over the "Amoebas #1" or "Amoebas #2".

This is the basic shape of the amoebas: (in the photo you just can see only the Amoebas #2:

VI.- Paint small dots over the "base green" and over Amoebas #1 ; #2 and #3. Use this colors for the dots:

* Vallejo German Camo Pale Brown (70825-144)
* Vallejo German Camo Black Brown (70822-150)
* Vallejo Olive Green (70967-082)

Painting the small dots I´ve tried to follow this simple rule:

* Olive Green ONLY is painted over "base green" & "Amoebas #1".
* German Camo Black Brown ONLY is painted over "Amoebas #2"

I don´t know if I´ve made too much "historical mistakes", but I´ve enjoyed working with this camo scheme, and I (very modestly) like the results...

Amoebas distribution before dotting... an a figure painted after the dotting (I still need to correct the Flat Black mistake):

The figure with the dotting (I still need to correct the Flat Black mistake, but it will be very easy -I think-)

I think there is an excess of light in the photos of the dotted figure, so it´s difficult (at least for me) to distinguis properly the colors...

Warning: As you can see in the photos, I´ve made a mistake: I initially used Vallejo Flat Black instead of Vallejo German Camo Black Brown for the Amoebas #2... I don´t like the Flat Black looking... I´m going to "correct" that mistake.

So we´re still on the way !! Cheers, guys

Hi All,

Well have now made a start using the following set of Dragon figures.

All four figures are now built and primed and ready for the off

I'm painting them in Vallejo acrylics, a first for me, so I'm still getting used to how the paints handle - not quite got the hang of this layering thing yet

Here's the group with the flesh painted, I did try to take some close ups but with out much sucess.
Next step will be the uniform.

Cheers, Paul

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the kind words, will crack one with the uniforms next week.

From what I've seen so far there's some pretty high standard figure painting going on, am looking forward to seeing the finished results from everyone.

Hi Guys,

I shall add an orch wash to the chaps in Pixie Suits as I'm not 100% happy with the colour, the garment seems to be slightly more yellowish than I have achieved so far.

A bit more in context:

All this talk of Sherman and Figure Campaings has got me looking at what troops I have. I bought some Alpha Image figures 3/4 years ago and providing there are no size issues they would fit this type of scene well.

Looks like they were modelled with a Cromwell in mind but should fit in around a Sherman without too much trouble.

Although it means re-instating some detail I think this is a better representation of the pixi suite colour?

@ Paul; welcome aboard! Those faces look superb.
@ Zaltan; you completed both figures. well done. The skin on the second figure looks a bit pinkish, but for an islanddweller without much sun it might just work!
@ Roberto; Thanks for this mini-sbs! They do look good!
@ Jessy; these suntanned Brits look the part. I am curious on how they look once complete.
@ Alan; it looks like a regt. will be done by june, right? great job on the figs!

Ron: I didn't have too much light when I took the picture, and the flash was garish, so the colors are a bit off. Thanks for the comment!
