I'll look forward to seeing them soon.
Thanks a million.

Joe,
Again: check out Primeportal.
There are at least four different M42 walk arounds, interior photos included.

Hey guys,
Just wanted to let everybody know that the SP Designs tracks arrived today. They're a resin set & look really good! Lots of detail in them.
Obviously, the difficulty will be bending them around the sprocket so as I've been away from this hobby for quite a while can people jog my memory here. I'm assuming that a little heat applied to the resin will be sufficient to allow a little pliability into the tracks. Is this the best method, do you think?
Anybody who has any ideas please let me know.
Thanks fellas.
Joe.

Try heating the resin tracks with a hairdryer for a few minutes, they should become bendy and pliable, then just fit them round the sprocket. The other method is to soak them in boiling water for a minute or so. Just be patient with them though, ive had plenty of disasters with resin tracks snapping and falling apart!

got another four inches last nght! I'm running out of places to pile snow!! I must have a solid two feet of snow in my back yard, and they have to plow the drive way everyday just to keep up with it. Funny thing is that most of the roads are in very good shape, unless you get onto the country roads.

Hey Gary,
Mind your back with all that shovelling!
My country went to pieces over our recent deluge last month.
Mabye you could contact our inept British government & let them know how to cope with the cold white stuff!
Looking forward to the photos when you can get out. Dont take any risks, my friend. There's no rush.
Take good care of yourself.

Hey Gary,
Now that is a true gentleman speaking. I would love you to take some pics of the 110 for me. Thanks very much indeed for offering. 6' drifts?! Wow, everyone was complaining in England last month cos we had 6". Unbelievable!
Keep me posted on the pics, mate.
Joe.
I went down there to take a couple hundred pics Wednesday afternoon, as the sun was bight and the snow is finally gone! They got the whole place locked up, and nobody can get in there right now (why?). There's a really nice memorial to some folks from there that were the first to catch hell in the Battle Of The Bulge. I've got a couple connections down there, so I'll see just what is going on there. I was after another set of Ontos photos, as the one they have is ever so slightly different than the one in the kit. Headed down to FT. Knox Monday morning if it dosn't rain (that's about two hours due south of me) for another couple hundred.

Hiya Gary,
The snows gone at last, eh? Excellent!
You know, it's Murphys Law that it's all locked up on the first day you get down there, aint it?
By the way, I've got an M115 coming so I can use the rifled barrel from it on the M110.
Should be here in a couple of weeks.
Looking forward to the photos, though. Hope you get some good ones!
Thanks for remembering, anyway. Look forward to hearing from you soon.
All the best.
Joe.

Hi Gary,
I'm not going to make the 8in towed. I'm just going to use the barrel from it on my M110 as it is apparently rifled & would be the best detailed barrel I could find for a Vietnam version M110.
Let me know if I'm wrong.

two questions:
* will the contour of the barrel be right for the M110?
* will the overall length match up to the M110?
to be truthfull the barrel on the M110 seems shorter and heavier than the M115. Guess I could take a tape measure down there when they decide to unlock the gates

Hiya Gary,
I only got the M115 for the barrel 'cos somebody on this thread, I think, said that I could use it on the M110!
Oh dear, oh dear!
Perhaps it will fit with a little modification...mabye?
I hope so!

There were some modifications of the towed gun to fit on the SP chassis but as I remember the barrel is esentially the same.
Though you should not rely on kit parts....check the M110 and M115 kit barrel lengths
Rounds Complete!!

Hi fellas,
The M115 kit arrived today & it contains a very nice turned metal barrel with rifling in the tube. Exactly what I was looking for!
Now I know this may sound a silly question but being a bit of a newbie here I'm not sure how to do this.
As I'm modelling an M110 how long should the barrel be in 1/35th?
And how do you do the math from full size down to scale?
Thanks guys.
Joe.

Joe,
I can tell you exactly what a 175 barrel is ( 32 feet at 19,000 lb.), but for the life of me I can't remember the specs on an eight inch howitzer. I know I should as I trained on both of them

The M110 had the M2A2 howitzer barrel at a length of 25 calibers
So......25 x 203 = 5075......5075 / 35 = 145 mm or 5.7 inches
Rounds Complete!!

well for those that need to know, and the rest that could care less, I've been loading photos pretty much all night long (still have about a thousand to go). I found two sets of Ontos photos from two different tracks, and from what I can see the tracks are different on the one up the road from me (still similar, but yet different). I'll try and compile them into one folder over the next few days (keep in mind I'm still learning Windows 7). I did find some of the M110 photos, but know there's a lot more than these. The Studebaker truck photos are missing as well as the Honest John truck. Have a bunch of M4a1 photos of two different tanks that are somewhat different, but so far at lest 3/4's are missing. I did come accross my 75mm pack howitzer pics!! The M42 pics seem to have completely dissappeared! I have one more portable hard drive to look thru, and I need to get my hands on my old hard drive that came out of the PC that went belly up!

right now I'm in sort of a panic! I have two cameras missing! One's a 35mm, and one of my favorites, and the other is no great loss except for the memory cards. I'm kinda bad about not removing data off my cards till they are completely full, so I'm sorta thinking maybe they M42 might be on them. I'm kinda in the market for another digital camera right now, and have a plan on shooting some of those oddball shots.
If this beautifull weather holds up I'm going to be shooting a real nice M60 and a Phantom II this weekend. Been sending out feelers to shoot a Locheed PV1 stored near me, and I get access to that plane my head will be three feet in diameter!! (I'm desperate for landing gear photos and bomb bay photos). Plus I ready to drag out my fly rods for the summer!!!!!!!!

I hope you find your cameras Gary! What a real pain in th a$$!
Dont you just hate it when that happens?
Any photos of M48A3, M42, M107, M108, M109, M110, M114, M35A1, M54, M151A1, UH-1D, OH-6A, would really help my projects.
I hope you can sort out your predicament as we dont have too many of these US vehicles / artillery pieces / helicopters in England!
Good luck to you.

there's a late model M110 and an M42 parked south of me, but for some oddball reason the gates are still locked up (I went down there again Tuesday). I know where several M114's are parked, but can't get there. There is a Huey parked down there, but not much to see as it's all buttoned up tight.
I found the digital camera that's missing awhile ago, so I'm down to one missing 35mm Pentax. It'll turn up sooner or later.
I'll be back down to Knox sometime in the next couple of weeks, and may just head southwest to Ft. Campbell for another trip thru the 101st Airborned Museum. That one's very important to me.
