Hi everyone

I think that´s the right place for my question:

Does anybode have a picture of the M4A1 Sherman, which Tasca provides with their kits?
Im intersted in the following one:

70th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Divison. Normany, June 44.
It´s the one with a "16" on the Turret an the name "ANNE" on the hull.

Maybe someone have seen that one?

thx

Accordig to the Bison decal sheet with these markings the tank is from the 70th Tank Battalion, wich was an independent tank battalion, not attached to the 2nd AD. It's difficult to know but the large "16" on the turret and the fact that it looks like it might have been a DD-tank hint that it belongs to the 70th..
hope it helps

I have my doubts about it being a DD as they would have had to change the idler but anything is possible ...Sorry I don't have any more info on the picture..

okay so about time i started displaying my sherman and what ive done yesterday after work. its the italeri m4a1 calliope but im think bout just making it into a normal sherman. british? if they had the big hatch m4a1's. originaly plan was to make it a dd style but ive realised both the US and british version only had 1 hatch on top of turret.
but heres what ive done so far.

out of packaging.

and part of body built

will update more in the week. any ideas on whether to make it a US or british m4a1 ? if so which country used them in normandy??

Hey Evgenij
As noted this is a tank from the 70th Tank Battalion (independent) and as the tank name follows the Company it belongs to (A for Anne= A Co.) and A and B companies were Duplex drive we can safely assume Anne is from A company but as they lost 5 tanks during the landings on June 6 1944 this would most likely be a replacement without any of the evident fittings for a DD such as extended headlights and DD idlers etc. This is a shot from a repair depot so the rear idlers may have been changed over. (The tank in the background is 'Intruder II' which is believed to be a 2AD tank, possibly leading to the confusion from earlier...) The turret number is a give away for DDcompany tank as they are on the turret whereas the C company tanks had the same numbers on the hull side.
I may have some more info if I dig deeper...
Cheers

Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions on priming! Since we have so much time, I'm going to shop around for some new primers and paint. I'll post some progress photos once I settle on what to do next. Thanks again!

Hey Paul
Wasn't going to post until I had some pics, but will tell you what I'm up to...
I have
~ Tasca M4A1 built and primed, which I changed to a welded hull by removing the rivets and reshaped the bottom rear hull edge.
~ DML M4A3 (76)w Premium which is half built and has Aber photo etched parts in use. I am thinking of having this one run over a mine and have some bogey damage.
~ DML US M4A1(75) DV which I am planning to have as a MTO tank, possibly Italy?
I also have a Tamiya M4A3(75)w which is all built and has added built-in
cheek armour and foul weather hoods for the bow .30cal and guntube. This won't be eligible for this campaign, but can still post pics for others that may be interested?
I haven't had much time to work on anything this week as have been working late and had a few cash jobs to get to, but hopefully this weekend will be a wind down and build tanks kind of break...

Brad, you've got a lot going on! I'm definitely interested in seeing your Tasca M4A1, especially the changes you made. I'm leaning toward that being my second build for the campaign. Do you have any tips on the tweaks you made?

Cheers Brad thanks for the update

Looking forward to pics - you're a "Master" !!

I have the Formations Oddball conversion to build (using Tamiya's M4A3) for another Campaign but I'll post here to get as much feedback from the 'pro's' as possible (seeing it's not realy eligible)

I'll make the build above a priority as I need to finish it by October the 1st

Cheers

Paul, I was perusing the Formations store the other day and noticed the Oddball conversion. What's your opinion of the kit?

Hey Michael !

It's a great conversion as are all of Rob's kits !

The add to the kit is the Jaguar Oddball Crew - which I have

Check out Bill Wechsler's build below on Tracklink - the colors are spot on for the Movie Vehicle.

NB: Bill hasn't used the Formations Conversion :

OddBall's Sherman - Watch those negative waves !

Oh man, that's awesome! Mr. Wechsler definitely nailed it! And, I had no idea Jaguar released figures of the crew - sweet! I have a Tamiya M4A3 that I messed around with several years ago sitting mostly untouched in the corner, now I know what to do with it! If only I can find those Jaguar figures....

Thanks for the info!!!

Hi everyone...

I've slowly been working my way through the upper hull....

Archer casting numbers (thanks Rick) taken from an actual vehicle, and I slightly modified Eric's weld bead technique:

I used .020 hex rod (I didn't have round on hand) and glued it in place. Once it was dry, I scraped it down until it was almost flush with the rest of the hull, and then textured it. That way, it was a little flatter.

I made little chains out of copper wire (thanks Justin), grab handles for the engine deck with brass, and sand shield attachments with .010X.060 strips. I made one of the drainage holes WAAAAY too big, though:

Thanks for all the tips, guys. This campaign is a great exchange of ideas.

I agree, Chris, wonderful stuff! With all the small details you've added, I didn't even notice the larger drain hole. Do you know what size copper wire you used?

Hi everyone. Just a quick shot off my phone to show some progress. I changed jobs so I'm getting used to a new routine and it's cutting in to my modeling time.
Almost done with the assembly though.
I'm back to having fun after a couple frustrating kits.
