Yep Joseph, he gives a hand on that one - I'm bad at water, he's not that good at figs
Thanks for the comment!

Thank you Charles,
then as you requested here are some pictures of the different resin coats. Actually only one additional one from the first step I showed here a few days ago.
But the Xtreme part of the diorama starts right there
My 2 coats look alright. Quite transparent indeed
The waves fit alright..
So let's put another coat of resin ad blend the background and the waves with it!
of course don't do this at home without a good gas mask!!

Oh boy! if you just left it as it is it would be great! I love the flag drifting slightly under the water. You are catching the aftermath of a sunk ship very well.
Looking forward to the next phase

Ohh, it looks great and again I have no words for this!
The scene takes shape!
I had the idea to make/ build a sea-mine covered with clear-resin... but for this I still have no plans or a mine-model-kit.
But, inculding your hand this is a nice size-comparison!
greetings....

Thanks Charles, indeed it drifts through a foggy sea.. i don't happen to be disappointed by the final result honestly
Thanks Franck, only 2 or 3 to go now, but I should be back very soon with something else
Soeren, if you need good plans for a German (I think) WW2 era mine, PM me off-line, I have this.
Thanks for your support as always
Well, here is the completed water after more blending of waves and base. I tend to be really cautious with the amounts of acrylic gel I apply, it's a great product but I had some troubles with it in the past. And then the sea ends up looking quite plastic in the end.
Here I just use it at the places where there should be some small ripples like around the bodies, hull etc.
I might add a few small ripples using Microscale Microclear.
I had to trim the edges of the waves
let's paint the bird, for the moment, i am not too sure about the eyes, it looks like an Hollywood star. I painted it far from my colour references eh..

Looking good. The bird is very nice.
Will you be putting in the little foam areas in and around the waves ala JBA?
(I'm thinking of the sea effect in JBA's 'Jaws' and 'Galilee')
Cheers,
Charles

Nicolas, this is awesone modeling!
This are all such risky steps i imagine well your fear to spoil everything.
The look is superbe and the story so sad.
So much in such a small dio, chapeau!
Can you guys recall me your brand of resin?
Claude

This is great.
I am also interested in the flag in the water.
It makes me feel "depth" and "fear" in the middle of sea.
Now, we are in a position to see the "bird" appearing in the scene.
It is my wating moment.
Cheers!

Thanks Charles, ah no, no more effects on the water. the other day I was bored in town waiting for a bus or something and looked down the river and really there is nothing like a truly calm water it seems. So i needed to get all those bumps, but nothing like the inner turmoil you can see in JBA's Galilée for instance.
There is also the fact that I needed a see-through sea, so it didn't have to be that agitated.
Merci Claude. I use Gedeo resin, quite expensive and long to set I must say but it does the job wonderfully and is less toxic than the other brands
Actually Francisco, this smell makes me really sick! I have to take a lot of care with the gas mask Thanks for the comments
Thank you Kenneth friend, that one is almost finished now
Appreciated Alexandre, in the end you can see less of it than what i had plan, oh well..
Thanks Nam,Seung-il, I put the albatross on its final position basically half an hour ago, it really makes the Diorama "fly" I think..
So now the gel dried, so I basically walked out, put a grey paper and took those shots. it's almost definitive except for a base -I have to find out what I can use. I was thinking maybe a square section of wood painted with dark inks.. uh, I am not very good with bases. But a base it needs as the bottom of the water doesn't look so good.
I will let it rest 4 or 5 days, take a 000 brush and arrange a few things, but basically, next time you'll see it, it will be over with it.

Brilliant! Makes me want to stay far away from ships and the sea. I do imagine this is what the flotsam of the battle aftermath must look like in a small microcosm.
We may have the best dioramists in France on this site!!
Cheers,

Nicolas, my friend !
Only one word comes to mind : AWESOME !!!! Please use the best base that money can buy because your vignette deserves it ! May i suggest a black laquered base as that will highlight the depth of the ocean and contrast with the dead seamen and the albatross. Cheers !

That's really very kind Charles thank you
Thanks Kaspar for your comment too!
Honestly friends, I am here for that, put things in your head.
dear Kenneth, you are absolutely right on the idea and colour -but that doesn't surprise me the least from you. unfortunately though I asked in town I got "our machines can't handle such small framing", so I ended up in cutting the wood by myself and paint it with valejo black, oh dear..
So well, you know one of the things that I don't like in web-dioramas? the way some diorama makers use some external shadows or the light of the sun to give an extra depth to their work. I used to be guilty of that a long time ago, but now I use only some very neutral light and a grey paper background, which means that what you can see below is the most accurate graphic representation of the real diorama I did. All light effects you see are just totally intentional, except some reflects on the water due to its glossiness.
If you want and have a look, JBA kindly let me a bit of his own website to show my diorama. On the bottom right on the page there is a round link called "the very big pics are there", you can have a look at some very big sized pictures of the diorama. It's is here: http://www.jbadiorama.com/tsushima-2.php
well, this is the end, a million of thanks to those who visited, several times more to all those who commented.
i might be back one day with something else, one day.

A beautiful piece of art! I love the subtle colors across the bow of the ship.
I stand in awe of the French diorama artists.

Again a build, for which I have no (english) words! It´s only great!
But it looks to me as a very sad scene... one dead sailor and the other one perhaps "nearly" dead.
The details and the "how-to" are very interesting and the overall effect is impressive!
greetings and happy easter / holidays!
