Well, it seems that those french tanks don't have that much "sex appeal" .... I know it's not a big cat
Well let's see if it looks better with some colors ... but no panzergrau neither dunkelgelb
So here are the first painting steps
I'm posting those pics now because later weathering and aging will turn the color into something very fade
so far, it looks like what it should be in 1937-38 ... but the finished tank will be in june 1940
Some parts of the camo colors and black-brown edging are already chipped, it's just started in fact ( say 5% is done )

Lovely work, Yvan. I can't believe nobody's commented - that's really disappointing.
Love the pre-war (?) camo scheme, and looking forward to you weathering it. Who's the figure by? ADM?

French WWII armor is the only armor I have any interest in, so I will be watching this one. I love that the Frence army saw fit to include purple in their camo scheme.

Hi Yvan,
I just found this post. This is really a neat looking vehicle and the first time I've seen it in kit form. I love early WWII French vehicles and camouflage. Very nice paint job. You've done a superb job.

Yes me too.
Must say that I don't really got for French armour usually but I might have to look into getting a few kits in the stash just to get a change from the usual panzergrau, dunkelgelb and O.D!
Looks fantastic Yvan. keep up the good work!
Thanks,
Philip.

Yvan-- camo job is fantatstic! What brand and colors did you apply? Did you hand paint them or use an air brush? Dang, good job.

Base olive green is Tam XF-58 with about 20% of XF-57, then 2 coats of Klir ( aka Future )
camo colors are Vallejo Model Color ( not Air ) airbrushed
yellow ochre / sky blue / sky grey / blue violet / sky green / burnt umber
Now I've started a very intensive fading based on known pictures
not yet aging and weathering, just consider this as a variation of base color

Very different now, isn't it

Great work even the painting. Well I must say that my tanks all look factoryfresh.
Ordered the D-2 with the Nemrod figures and the trackstory book today.
How do you work with the tracks?

Tks Wolfgang
the tracks are link-and-length : individual links around sprocket and idler wheels, lengths ( from 4 to 8 links ) elsewhere
Good acquisition !
even if there were only 100 D2 built, there are lot of possible attractive camo
just identify which one you want to build :
a pre-war serie 1 with only 47mm SA34 gun
a still not upguned serie 1 during war time ( very rare indeed )
an upguned serie 1 with 47mm SA35
a serie 2 which a some external differences with serie 1 and the turret with 47mm SA35 as standard

On A Historical Note...I love seeing the commonality of French design in their hulls, turrets and general configurations. I was smitten by your kit until I hit the price... OUCH

.
There are several great French tank registration sites with pictures that are helpful too. Keep working on it, as you're really capturing the Gallic nature of the beastie!

Hi Yvan!
Only just found this one. Another great model. Too bad the purple can't really be distinguished as such anymore...

Your figure painting skills are once again superb.
Really like those WWII french tanks, hope that more will be released some day in plastic. Especially a Somua.
Cheers!
Stefan

Tks Stefan
You're right, this purpel was really a nice touch, but I had to fade it to be closer to wartime
Oh yeah, a Somua in plastic by Tamiya
Cheers
Yvan
