Hi all- I have some more updates also.

Stanley- thanks for the kind words and support. Glad you like the way the way the Valentine II turned out.

axel- nice work also! Is that 1/35 scale? It is hard to tell from the picture, but very nice work indeed.

I have learned a lot from everyone's builds. It has been fun to catch up on this campaign over the holidays. I look forward to my next campaign, Urban Warfare, where I see a lot of good work and people from this campaign participating as well. Just hope I have time to complete it!

anyway, I made some progress with the final accessories and adding some radio antennae. I used some old airplane parts (landing gear) and other bits, and I am pretty happy with the over all look and feel of the final additions. After looking at the pictures, I realize more weathering (especially the lower areas) will probably be beneficial, but I am not sure if I am going to get to that or not, so I am calling it good for now.

So these are the pics that I will most likely place in the gallery. I hope you enjoy.

Here is the part that needs the weathering!

I really felt I needed one more layer of 'dust' to make this kit come together, so I went for it.

There are few areas that might actually need to be wiped off a bit, but I think it came out ok.

Thanks for a fun campaign!

Fellow Anglophiles -
Well, my Chieftain is almost complete - ready for the paint shop! The holidays got in the way of building a bit, but I am trying to get it completed this weekend, since we get Monday off from work.

The model was built from the venerable Tamiya Chieftain with added On The Mark and Eduard photoetch, wire for handles, plastic stock for added 'bits' and Milliput for the mantlet cover. Here are a few pictures of the current state of the build. Comments always welcome.

Thanks,
Stephen (Minas-Ithil)

PHDesigns -
Nice work scratchbuilding the 'fiddly-bits' on the Chieftain. One question, the putty on the turret and front hull. Are they markedly out of shape? I am too far along to apply that fix, but I was wondering for future reference.

Thanks,

Hello,

I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Time is now running short, but I’ve been making some good progress. The pictures below are from a few days ago, since then I’ve blocked out the stowage, started the tracks and weathering. Final photos tomorrow now the gallery seems to be working once more.

All the best.
Chris

Stephen

The putty was added in a very very thin layer and stippled with an old toothbrush to give the effect of anti slip surface, before the putty started to go off.

I'm not aware of any errors in the shape of those sections of the model that were covered.

Great looking builds all! Managed to get my build finished today.
Not totally happy with the paint job as I used a different primer than usual on this build and it proved to be a poor surface when I started brushing on the first coat.
This kit has the additional armour on the glacis plate that was on the last 100 vehicles produced. It was difficult to find serial numbers for the last 100 vehicles so I have made up a number that is fairly accurate by slicing up serial numbers from the spares box.
I will get a couple of crew for the turret in the future when I find some suitable figures.
1:76 Milicast A30 Challenger.

Happy new year all.

Hello,

Well, I’m done with a few hours to go. Though you always seem to see a few more things you could tweak a bit more

I’ll post the photos in the Campaign Gallery just as soon as it stops giving me the ‘Server busy’ message.

Thanks for the campaign everyone and of course Stanley.

All the best.

Chris

Hey Stanley, I'd go for a week. With the typical end-of-year obligatory time with the family (that may or may not be enjoyable) I backed up a pile of builds and would love to finish a few.
I started to add some detail to the Emhar Mk. IV Female and estimate a "next weekend" finish.
Thanks,
Charlie

Gentlemen,
Yes, I would request a bit of an extension as well. My Chieftain is in the paint shop now. Basecoat done, final details being added and painted, decals and weathering to follow. I'd estimate a week also.

Thanks,
Stephen (Minas-Ithil)

Stanley and Gary,
Thank you both for the extra time - last night decaled and and completed much of the detail work on the Chieftain.

Again,
Thanks,

Fellow Anglo-ArmourPhiles,
I will still need to do a couple of touch-ups on the Chieftain, but it is 99% done! The antennas will be added and I just noticed that I need to gloss coat the periscope lenses. Something I missed last night.

As a recap, I have always liked the lines of the Chieftain tank - quite revolutionary for its time. The Tamiya Chieftain was one of their most detailed kits at the time (c. 1985ish !) To meet today's standards it needed some work. I added the Eduard and the On The Mark photoetch sets for details. The OTM mounts for the side skirts were a real nice touch. I scratchbuilt a number of items, using plastic strip, sheet and some lead foil for the fender flaps and straps on things. I also added the gun mantlet cover made from epoxy putty. The stowage is some misc. Jerrycans and some British boxes from Blackdog. Enjoy and feel free to comment. BTW, thanks for the extra time to get this completed. The final photos follow and a few have been posted in the Campaign Gallery.

Thanks,
Stephen (Minas-Ithil)

I think everyone who needed an extension has crossed the finish line. Since access to the photo gallery has been unreliable lately, there is some slop for people to get their qualifying photos uploaded.

I will now unsticky the campaign thread and the campaign leader will be looking at the campaign photo gallery to figure out who gets ribbons. It shouldn't be too long until the ribbons are awarded.
