Hey guys, I was thinking about a Vietnam campaign to start sometime mid 2011. I don't have my heart set on a certain date, so let me know what you all are comfortable with.

I am thinking of titling the campaign "Vietnam: Trouble in Southeast Asia"

Subject matter is anything involved in the Vietnam War from 1955-1975. I will certainly consider content from the French involvement prior to this if there is interest.

All scales are welcome.

I would like to open it to the other Kitmaker forums to allow aircraft and seacraft/watercraft as well, and of course figures.

I will want to see photos of your builds in unstarted, in progress, and finished phases, but I may change this and just require the latter.

I don't know what you all have floating around on your workbenches, but if there are enough of you out there with semi-started or partially completed builds I will consider allowing them, just make sure to let me know what they are so that I can make a fair and reasonable decision regarding this.

I don't mind allowing builds from other campaigns especially with so many campaigns going on. What I may consider doing is either planning on the campaign to last one full year so that it encompasses the time frames of other campaigns, or I may require that you build a diorama/vignette to place your model in. Again, let me know what you guys have going on that would be applicable to this campaign, and let me know what ideas you may have regarding this.

Let me know what you all think and would like to see, specifically:
1) Interest
2) Start/Finish Dates
3) Content/ Requirements

I'm very flexible and open to any suggestions that come in, so let's hear what thoughts you all have

Count me in if the campaign starts mid to late 2011. I have a good diorama in mind.

Count me in as well. I have a PBR staring at me with lonely eyes...it's kinda creepy actually. A mid 2011 start time sounds good.

I will definitely join if it kicks off.. I'm already planning a Vietnam dio and I'm in the process of getting the figures and other things that I think I'll need.

You guys just made my day, wasn't expecting to see any posts so soon with the Holidays and all

I'm good with a mid-2011 start date

Now we just need 7 more interested I believe.
I'm going to drop by some of the other forums and see if we can't get any wingy thing fans and some figure fanatics on board.

Happy Holidays guys!

I agree whole-heartedly that with SO many campaigns going, it's very welcome to see ones that can combine. I have already signed up for a broad spread of campaigns coming up for 2011, but certainly count me in for a general Viet Nam one.
Thanks!

Jeremy, You should know that I only build WWII stuff. But I keep thinking back to high school when I build a hard edge camo F-4 with rattle can paint, for my aviation maintenance class. So I'm a maybe, but it would have to be later in 2011 and I haven't built a wingy thingy in 28 years

Sean: Excellent! I wish more of the campaigns would combine, would make this next year much less hectic

Sal: You should definitely branch out bud! An F-4 would be awesome! You could also go for the classic Jeep which is right out of WWII, let's see if we can come up with some other WWII related options for you

Jeremy,
Count me in! I will even sponsor a prize if you wan't to turn this into a photo contest. Most original subject, best finish, most authentic.......Just an idea.
I study S.E. Asia and have a project that must be done in the next few months that would fit the bill to a T!

This is great guys, I can't believe we are getting so much interest already! Looks like this can build into quite the campaign, let me see what I can do to set it up real solid and official to reflect the awesome support it looks like we are going to get as well as the generous support offered by good fellows such as Vladimir (BRAVO-6) and Iain (AK-Interactive)!

Demchenko: Awesome! Thanks so much for the support Vladi! "Best of Contest" is a great idea! Let's talk more about this when you get a chance!

collin26: Sweet! Thanks so much for your support Iain! Very generous as well as a great idea!
It looks like most are interested in a mid/late 2011 campaign, but you do have a special case and I would like to talk with you more and see what we can work out to get you in the campaign. I'm thinking either as a promotional project to garner more awareness/interest in the campaign, or you can later add something to your project as I am allowing partially complete builds for this campaign

Sal: Got some more ideas for you bud!
105 mm M2A1 (M101A1) howitzer
75mm Pack Howitzer M1
Willys MB
M8 Greyhound
Amtrac
M16 Halftrack(Quad AA version of the M3)
Supposedly small numbers of Shermans were used, perhaps 76mm M4A3 and/or M4A6 variants?
Centurion tank This tank was designed during WWII, but wasn't put into service until 1945. It may be a bit of a stretch for you, but it is certainly something to consider

Or if you want to go to the other side, we have:
37 mm automatic air defense gun M1939 (61-K)
82-PM-41 mortar
107mm M1938 mortar
M1938 120-millimeter mortar
122mm guns of some type, perhaps the 122 mm howitzer M1938 (M-30)?
T-34/85

How's that for a list of WWII items my good man?

Wow this is great guys! Here's a quick list of who's in so far:

sfctur1 (diorama)
BigSmitty (creepy big-eyed PBR )
Hisham (diorama)
windysean
VonCuda (aircraft)
Keeperofsouls2099 (aircraft)
jccraemer
collin26 (special project and contributor)
Graywolf
AussieReg (F-105 "Thud")

ltb073 (maybe, perhaps F-4 or vehicle of WWII origin)

Demchenko Did you want to enlist as well, or did you only want to support the campaign?

If I understand correctly, most of you favour a mid or late 2011 start date?
And if the campaign were to run for a full year, would that change your minds for the start date?

Thanks again for the great support right off the bat guys!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Jeremy, I already said I was in, but since I'm rarely on Armorama just shoot me a PM or post a thread on Aeroscale when it's time to officially sign up so all us wingy thingy fellas can enlist.

Hermon

ps: There are plenty of modern jet guys around too (Mother, Red4, etc.) so give'm a little nudge and I'm sure they'll jump in as well.

Just a quick note for clarification guys:
It has been brought to my attention that it sounded like I intend to allow people to simply use another campaign build to enter in this campaign.
This is not true, rather I welcome builds from other campaigns, but only to be incorporated into a vignette/diorama etc.
No ribbons for free guys

Graham: Awesome! Centurions are great, and a 1/6 Jeep would be sweet! Not sure about the historical accuracy of installing a V8 in one of those little things, but I have to admit if I was over there and had the chance I would certainly go for it bud

Vladi: Understood, and glad to have your support!

Hermon: Will do bud!
And I'll make sure to contact some of the other regs over there in Aeroscale as well, you guys have some awesome group builds

yeh the centurion will probably be the campaign one, its an Aussie version which i think was in Nam, think its a mk5 its got the search lights an stuff on it.
when rain stops i'll take pic of the box so ya know which one it is, im not that up on what was accually there but u guys will know.
an just do the retro jeep for fun , am tryin to get the 1/6th flat head v8 for kind of period accuracy but if not i'll go the whole hog an stick a drag engine in it with side pipes etc.
cheers,
Graham

No need for a picture, I already know which Centurion you are talking about and it's right on the money for the RAAC bud Check out the Vietnam section of this article if you want to read up a little more on this.

That Jeep is going to be very cool side project. The flathead would be quite interesting as Ford lent their production capabilities to these vehicles and tried to sue for rights to the vehicle and Jeep name after WWII but lost. If you do go all out drag racer with it then you've got to at least consider a tiger stripe paint job on it

I'm awful at scenery/vignettes, so I'll think of something stand-alone in the next 6 months or whenever this one starts.
thanks,
Sean.

Hey, I'm awful at everything bud Don't be intimidated by dioramas/vignettes, something simple will do just fine as long as you put your best effort forward. The Vietnam environments offer a lot of simple diorama options that would be great starter projects
