Thanks Sal, wish we would get more rain down here so we weren't in a constant drought. I've had my eye on that since I first discovered Great North Roads products. They also have an stand alone section of track that gives greater flexibility

Hey Sal, I would join up if It would be allowable to finish up a R/R dio I've been working on and off with for a long long time, like 14 years. The building wall and roofs are done but not finished, heck nothing is finished. Would have a gondola/D.M.L., a modified flat bed with crane and Trumps new WR 360 C12 locomotive which hasn't been started. Heck, I don't even have the new track layed on yet. This could inspire me to finish this beast up if allowed.

Hey Bob, sounds like you will be doing quite a bit of work and building a kit that hasn't been started yet so I say welcome aboard, glad to have ya us. That Trump loco is a cool looking kit that I have in my want list. If you have any photos of what you have stared post them up to give some people some inspiration

It would be nice to join yall. I would have to find yall after I have almost finished my Br-57 Armored Lokomotive which I am going to replace my Br-52 with. I have been working on my rail station off and on for about 12 years now. It started out with one DML heavy flat and the Rail Road Station Dio from Custom Dioramics. The rest is history.
The one thing I would like to see. When yall are going to do a specific campaign, why don’t yall go back in the website and see what people are working on, maybe we would like to join in. Notify us or send or an E-mail or something.

I am getting the kit in the mail today. So I'll post some box pictures here or is there going to be an official build forum. I know this is a big kit for me an that is why I am starting it now so my disabilities I have wouldn't get in the way of the time frame because I shack a lot from my nervous system accident I had affects my whole system. An it takes me awhile to build kits. I hope I can finish it but a year or so is a long time an I feel confident that I can do the kit because I have never been to a show an put a model in a contest that is my inspiration to do this kit or dio if I have time.I just have to stay focused an inspired. Which I know when I start seeing everyone starting on there kits it will help.

Thanks for the inspiration already Jeremy H I'm going to need some of that so to say kick in the butt every once in awhile to keep me going.I am going to also give my self breaks with the BR 52 locomotive by doing some small stuff so I feel like I'm accomplishing something on this long train kit. Like a staff car or some sort of car an a German opel truck of some sort.

Happy modeling

This ought to help you guys with the track width questions.I had started this dio years ago and used some large flex track as I was not going to put any cars or engines in it. But with the release of all these cars and engines, the idea got bigger and bigger. So, I built the cars to fit the track I had laid down. I had to redo my rail cars because the engine wheels where wider. So if you use an engine or car with the wheels on the outside of the frame, like those armored up gunned engines, use the track that fits them and adjust the wheel width on the cars that have wheels on the inside. I got the Trumpeter WR 360 C12 locomotive to add to my dio. and figured that it would not fit the track I had used for the D.M.L. cars. You can not adjust the wheels on engines as the wheels are on the outside of the frame. The cars can be adjusted as the wheels are on the inside and will varry only slightly and not show too bad. Therefore, I bought the rail road tracks from Trumpeter for the engine and had to break loose the wheels and braking system for the D.M.L. cars which was a job. Fortune has smiled as most came off with not too much damage and being under the bed and not showing too much I can get away with it. To sum it up in a nut shell, use the correct track for outside wheels and adjust the inside wheels to your track. Hope this helps everyone with the track questions. bob d.

@ William, looking forward seeing your stuff

@ Bob, thanks for clearing up that track question, 1 would think that these companies would at least try to make mixing and matching kits a little more easier for us modelers

I got my kit today and opened the box and was overwhelmed by how big the box was and it has 710 parts without the resin and PE that I am going to add. I am a little bit intimated but with this site's help I know I can do it.Because you people are the best for giving out inspiration. And are by far the most incredible people ever.

Hey William, it sure is a beast of a kit. I have it in the stash for a dio that will measure about4'x6' when I have to turn in my C.D.L. and rertire. Will be a 3 level dio with a cannal and double track above it and the ground level up from there. Been collecting the kits for about 3 years now. Hopefully one day I'll be able to P/U the tracked shovel $300.00 plus. I am one who is looking forward to retiring as I'll have all these dios to build. I was considering the after market set for this loco, but as the end of the cab will be under a stone bridge, I can get away without it. I've seen it on line and it is an amazing after market kit.. Good luck on your build and just have fun with your build. That's what it's all about.

Sal, everyones welcome. That's what this site is all about. If it helps someone avoid the mistake I made, all the better. Those brake parts are real fragile and hard to get to. If anyone is having a problem locating tracks, try scalehobbyist.com. They had them in stock last month and I need more anyway. You get 900 M.M.of track. That's the bed, sets of ties( two different lengths for a total of 3 at 180 m.m. and 3 at 270 m.m.) and rail. Nice detail except the end of the ties which are flat/smooth. I will not use the bed as it's on a dio base and didn't really like the smooth ends. If anyone P/U this set and dosen't need all the rail and track, I would be willing to purchase them for my fututre dio.

The talk of the differences in track gage between the different manufacturers of 1/35 scale Railroad equipment got me doing so math.

To be accurate the following should be used:

Western Europe through to the German Eastern Front (Standard Gage)
Gage - 1/35 Scale
4ft 8 1/2in - 41mm

Russian
1520mm - 43.4mm

Note, German forces regaged captured Russian track to 4ft 8 1/2"

North Africa
Mix of Standard Gage (see above) and Meter

Meter 1000mm - 28.6mm
British forces built a line along the North African coast using Meter Gage

WW1 Trench Railways / Feldbahn

600mm - 17.2mm
British / French / German / US Army all used this gage

Several Model RR manufacturers make track components that would be suitable to build track to the correct gage however nothing is available off the shelf apart from the trench railway gage which is only slightly larger than On30 (16.5mm).

Can the DRAGON or TRUMPETER track be corrected ?

I was thinking bout using balsa wood for the railroad ties an cutting the plastic ones off but I'm not sure if it would match what do you think.plus also might use the balsa wood also for the floor in the cabin interior but not sure if it would look accurate.

I have just done a dry build on a section of track from a Dragon kit

The gage measures to be 41.68mm, which is a little wide for scale which should be 41mm, however this would be acceptable in a diorama.

I do not have any Trumpeter track so I cannot do a comparison.
Can anyone help at with the Trumpeter track ?

I would have have helped but I only have a 1/35 scale ruler that has all the scales from 1/24 1/48 1/72 It's called the Excel deluxe scale model reference rule so I'm not sure how to convert mm an cm to scale with this ruler from what you said to measure for railroad ties. That would be wonderful to find out how when I use the balsa wood.

I just looked at the kit parts finally and it would be hard to replace the railroad ties with balsa wood. But could maybe cut off the parts where you put the railroad beam and put the plastic parts on the wood and see what happens but then how would I replace the plastic railroad ties if it don't look good and be accurate.I just might have to buy extra railroad tracks like people have said on here and do a test fit and see what happens. Where can I get the extra tracks from not sure where to get them without buying another kit.

The gage should be measured from inside face of the rail to inside face rather than center to center.

Dragon Ties measure 76.9 long x 7.6 wide x 5.1mm

Somewhere, I have some scale drawings for German Track which should answer some of these questions

Ian, the Trump kit rail width, inside to inside(,top part of the rail), messures out to 42mm. The width from the inside,( center part of the rail), to inside measures out to 43mm.This should clear up the track questions hopefully. bob d.

Hay Sal I’m in if it’s not too late to join in?
How many of you ever built any of Ironsides stuff? I drug these out of the stash. Don’t know what I well put on the Flat Car or in the Box Car at this moment though. I will start off with the flat car in this build.

Never seen that brand, Ironside, before but they look interesting. Just wonder the price, if there´s resin part included.

Ironside is an old company from France. As for as I know they wear one of the first to be multy media. There are resin and brass in there kits too. I was getting them from Greatmodels, but I see they don’t have them anymore. Oh buy the way the full name is Azimut Ironside. And this is there address. 8,rue Baulant 75012 Paris

Hey Sal how does that Panzertraggerwagen look? I have another one from Ironside to build. How does the 38T look also?
Here are a couple of pictures of my flat car. I almost forgot to take some pictures during the build. When I remembered to take some pictures I was over half way done with the construction. I replaced and rebuilt some of the parts because the molding was so off. I replaced the brasses under the frame with evergreen rod. Replaced the main bumper parts. Shaved off the hold / tiedowns on the sides of the frame with brass eyes and brass rings. I know the eyes and rings are a little large for the scale but they just look better and function. And I also reworked the turnbuckles / couplings. Back to talking about the rail gages. Hell I am almost ready to paint.

Thats it for now. Getting ready to paint.

Fred looking good, so does some of the other stuff in your photos, but the campaign does not start until November 25 so I hope you are saving something to start building then
