I'm in!

It'll be one of the HB Land Rovers, probably the hardtop Defender if I can wait, otherwise the RSOV but I think that'll need an AM set to do it justice

all,
I'm still very undecided which version I'll do (but it will be 1:24th scale and majority scratchbuilt), here's the contenders:

This will be dependent on IF I can find some decent 1:24th tyres. Otherwise the line-up looks like one of these:

Decisions, decisions, decisions .
Any thoughts

Hi Roger

I must admit they all look damned good as a project. Would be great to see your whole fleet done eventually as they all have their own crazy characteristics.

Can you not turn out scratchbuilt masters of the wheels like you did with some of your earlier models? How big a difference is there diameter wise, with the original Landrover wheels????

Would the wheels from the Emhar Bedford be any closer to the look or size ???

. Yep, they do have that look to them.
They are all from the Rhodesian conflict (1965-80) and are the parents of all of today's flashy MRAP's (no multimillion dollar research projects during that conflict).

Nige,
I could scratch some tyres but I'm trying for a quick'néasy build - my version of shake'n'bake . Surprisingly the 1:24th Italeri tyres fall within the "acceptable" dimension parameters, but I just don't like the soft detail on the Hard top Rover tyres and the FFR tyres are the wrong style for these vehicles.
The Emhar Bedford has 34x7 (7.00x20) tyres so aren't even close to the Rover 7.50x16's (quite nice tread pattern though).
I shall continue my hunt for the elusive 'correct' tyres.

Cheers
Roger

While I am waiting patiently for the start of the campaign to come around, I thought I would post up a pic of my own Landrover 110 County Stationwagon that I had from about 1997 through 2002. I still have a love for these icons of 4x4 and would love to have another (probably a lean, mean, green, ex fighting machine).

Ah well, maybe I will get a lotto win that I can treat myself again !!!!!!

Looking forward to seeing more recruits to the campaign and to see what builds you will be taking on !!!!!!

I think I may have to try one of those and save the 1/35 HobbyBoss kit for another time.

Good news. What about the Jackal & Coyote? Those are what will tempt me to dabble in 1/48

Also, can you crack the box on the RSOV and give your opinion please? I've heard it's missing quite a bit in terms of the racks on the back..

With Lucky you have to check the item actually says "In Stock" rather than "Available"

Other than that I've had no issues with them over the last few years

Not too sure which Land Rover project it will be as I have several planned.

Decisions, decisions...

Sean references are scarce and I'm not sure what really should be there. But judging by pictures only things that HB kit lacks in terms of racks/tools are racks for water cans on rear right side (I've only seen two photos with them) and pliers/cutter on right fender.

Ammo boxes looks right:

They are better then ones in the WMIK kit (the parts layout made them hardly usable).

Said racks aren't bigest worry for me. As kit is based on demo vehicle I think for proper in theater build we would need: diffrent tires, diffrent seats, diffrent plate under the GL ring and probably additional mesh on the frame in front of grill.
My first RSOV is half-build OOB but if AM guys deliver I'll surely build another one.

For this campaign I am decided on hardtop. Probably with Voyager PE. But I have to wait to february as this month modelling budget is exhausted.

thanks Jaroslaw, the rear looks like it's got lots of bits and pieces to look busy enough. Certainly more than the WMIK had.

And I know what you mean about the budget: so many kits, so many great AM sets, so little dispoasble cash!

I think I got overexcited a little.
Actually GL ammo boxes are nicely done, because parts joins right in the corners of the box so there is no nasty gap around box like with smaller boxes.

.50 cal boxes are exactly like the ones in WMIK kit.
...and what the heck are .50cal boxes doing in car armed with GL
