By the way does anybody know if the British army is still using the CIP panels? The kit comes with one but not the best in the world and I have not seen many pictures with them installed.
Here are a few (taken in 2003 AFAIK )

I've been following this thread with great interest for when I get mine. You've done a great job, Christopher.
Frenchy, in the pics you posted the first one has all that netting on it.. do you have pics with a close-up of that type of netting? Would gauze with sprinkled "leaves" on it do the trick?
Thanks

I have just purchased this kit and your info is excellent. Down here accessory kits of SA-80 and GPMGs are few. Is anyone able to steer me in the right direction of a good set and roughly were to get it

Thanks, Michael and Frenchy.. I was afraid it might be the barracuda netting, but I just couldn't see it very clearly.. and was hoping for the type that could be replicated using gauze. Would it be possible to find that type of netting being used at all?
Thanks again

On the WMIK Ive only seen barracuda netting. However on the older model landys serving with BAOR I've see them totally covered in netting with hessian strips (imagine a ghillie suit for a jeep!) so maybe there was a crossover period.

Malcolm I rebuilt the mounts for the SA80 to bring them up to date with what is currently in service. Over on Military modelling web, there are a few that talk about some small problems with HB kit that are easy to fix, one of them being the rifle racks. Here is the link to the forum, it might help some.

Many thanks Christopher

These two images that Frenchy has put up is MCS. Mobile Camouflage System.
Thermal blankets with the Barracuda Netting sown on to it and attached to the vehicle with Velcro.
I am working on a generic set that can be used for this.

I should have paid more attention to the pics and noticed that the net in the last one was different from the two others...

Just a quick pointer, it appears that you've forgotten a part of the roll cage structure. In Step 7. parts E9/E10 the reinforcement spar. From the photos of WMIK's i've seen, it appears to be an integral part of the roll cage structure. Nice build, looks great.

Thanks for the comments. I do not have the roll cage glued in place yet along with the two side parts so I can finish all the stowage for the back bed. Makes it easier to remove the cage without everything being glued in place and help to limit breakage.

looking good! nice amount of gear there. the M4 looks a little out of place though. if there are L85's in the rack, shouldn't the figure have one as well?

Thanks Matt for the comments. I know the m4 looks out of place, but I have seen a few of these in british hands, not many though. I'm more likely will be replacing it with a sniper rifle insted, everything is still a work in progress one reason why nothing is glued down just yet.

You read my mind Matt, I have both rifle I can use. I plan to replace the L96 that comes with the SBS set with trumpy's newer SR25 which is pretty much the same as a L129. Hope to have all this finished some time this week

Really outstanding Christopher!
Although my stash is too full and the time is too short, your build tempts me to buy this kit
To me it would be nice to depict the italian version
http://www.ams.vr.it/PIER/ArmWalkAround/JOB/Land%20Rover%20VAV/Land%20Rover%20Defender%20VAV.htmHowever I think I'll wait the release of the hard top version
I don't know yet. Maybe with some modification (mostly the reproduction of the canvas roof) I'll be able to do the E.I. Land Rover Defender
Anyway, congrats again, I hope to see this your work finished soon
Cheers

Christopher,
Nice, I'm using this while I build mine. What colour did you use for the yellow? it looks spot on.

Thanks everyone for the positive review. This kit is just great from HB when compairing it to some of their older kits, like their not so wonderful leopards.
Craig for the base color I used Vallejo Iraqi sand, followed by a filter of brown for dark yellow and then a filter of brown for desert yellow.
Keith I'm guessing there are suppose to be seat belts for the front seats. The frames for the seat have the equipment for the belts, but I did not make any for them. I'll more likely will make them on my next build. I think they are the retractable type like used in most cars. Without the frame for the drives seat you would have to make all the hardware for the belts.
Hopefully HB will follow up this release and make both the hard and soft top version. The possibilities are endless and throw in a left hand drive conversion and then you could make the Czech WMIK
