I would like to see if there is any interest in a WW2 Panther and Jagd Panther campaign which I would like to run between 1st January and 31st December 2012. The reason for a 12 month period being specified is one of the regulations I wish to place within this campaign and they are;
• Each entrant must build and paint a Panther or Jagd Panther in any scale.
• Each build cannot be started before the start date.
• The build can be straight from the box or with all the bells and whistles.
• All standard campaign requirements will be in effect.
• Regular build updates with supporting pictures must be posted in order to complete the campaign.
My reason for this last requirement is in order make the campaign as educational as possible for those who have not entered the campaign, or who come across the campaign thread after it is finished. By regular updates I am looking for a box shot in order that a viewer knows exactly which kit you are building, and any after market options you have utilised. I want the entrants to add a picture after each step they have followed in the instructions of kit being built, pointing out any areas you feel are note worthy. You are of course free to add more pictures of each step if you wish. Your build can be run as a blog on the site as long as you post a link in the campaign thread and post in the same thread each time you update your blog. I will of course turn this campaign into a feature when it is finished and will most likely be asking some of you to write a build feature in its own right for the site.

The Panther is hands down my all time favorite tank Darren, count me in on this one.

I like the ribbon, but the eye and teeth detail get lost when it is downscaled.

As those who build interiors for their models would say "I know its there" and there is nothing I can do about it unless the size of ribbons is increased. I originally considered opening this to all Panthers as in other armoured vehicles and the aircraft, but I think the Panther tank has enough options to keep this possible on its own.

Count me in! Have three Panther kits in the stash, a Shangha Dragon Ausf G, Older Dragon Panther II and current Dragon Ausf G smart kit. I don't know anything about these vehicles so it will be both a fun and learning experience for me. I hope that I don't frustrate anyone with with my questions during the campaign? I'll make a choice on which one to build when the campaign begins.

Eddy it is my hope that with the requirement to show your builds step by step , it will increase ability and overcome the weaknesses in some manufacturers instructions. You never know some of those in the know may provide information on the vehicles and thier uses, so not only will we get to build better models but also learn about the real vehicles and how they were used.

I tried to brighten the eye and make the fangs a bit clearer.


If you use a graphics program on the original ribbon, you will notice that the eye is made of mostly dark yellow pixels instead of bright yellow. This is because when you reduce an image to a smaller size, for each pixel in the reduced image, the graphics program might have to take the N neighboring pixels around it and average the colors. Since it is mostly black around the eye, the resulting color is the darker yellow so the eye doesn't stand out as much. I just drew more of the eye in a brighter yellow. I also just used plain black for the fangs to make them stand out more.

Sounds like a great one, count me in.

Count me in .... My all-time favorite Tank ... I just got a ICM Panther Ausf D by mistake! (I was supposed to be sent some Mig Pigments ) not a bad kit, surprisingly good so I may build it, if not I might go for an Erzatz M10 ? time will tell!

Question ..... Will the Panther Ausf F and Flakpanzer Coelian be allowed?

1 of the first kits I built when I got back into the hobby in 2008 was the old, and cheap, Tamiya Panther Kit, and being that I love to build German armor I guess I would fit right in here with this campaign. I like the year long period too cause I have some large builds planed at the end of this year, so I might not be able to start right at the jump off date.
Now I have to start looking for a Panther Kit something better than that old Tamiya 1

If it has a Panther chassis and is based on a vehicle that existed (even as just a mock up) it will be allowed as a part of this campaign. My big question here is do you all believe you will be able to follow the requirement for step by step reports? One problem I have encounted when editing campaign features is that the pictures used in the thread get deleted, sometimes within a week or two of having been put up. if you intend to use this method you will need to keep the picture for me to do the campaign feature at the end.

I have the Dragon Panther A late in my stash and am looking at getting a few more before this build begins. Have built the Tamiya kits years ago and cant wait to get started on a Dragon kit.

You can count me in as well. The Panther has always been one of my favorite tanks. I have built a number of Jagdpanthers, but I have been itching to build a nice Panther for a while. I have the Tamiya Panther Late G in the stash both 1/48 and 1/35. Hmmm....decisions, decisions.

Sounds good! I have a DML kit that is destined to become the APG open-air exhibit in all its badly-kept "battleship grey" glory...

As for the pics & step-by-step, I'd spell it out in the rules that pictures must be at least 1200x900 pixels in size (1600x1200 is better), and that entrants absolutely must keep the images available on line for a minimum of a month after the campaign ends (to give you time to harvest them).
