zsu is actually in the box with the rest of the parts. The zsu actually came from my mt-lb by the same company. I'll take pictures of it later.

Howdy Y'all:
Here is the kit I'll be working on. I don't know if I'll use the aftermarket barrels. They look small, intricate and my carpet monster is hungry.
Y'all take care,

Hi guys. I've hit a stumbling block on my build. Exhaust colour. I was thinking thinking of painting it steel and then rusting with weathering powders. Would this work? Or is steel too bright, and paint it Humbrol 113 Rust?
I love half-tracks and Tiger tanks. And Lancaster bombers. I model to please myself not others. I may not be the best of modellers, but I'm happy with what I end up with.

Hi Darren, I would go with something dark and then rusting it with whatever you want. I usualy start with a preshaded exhaust then apply a base coat of xf-56 mixed with xf-10 flat brown 50/50. Afterward I use pigments. The darker color give the depth.
Anyhoo, here is where I am at:
I got the tire done

Some of the hull..I`ll change the chain that i`ve glued...it`s too short imo.

The front suspension was easy and required only a small modification to fit properly.( tires not glued) HAaaaa Dragon kits, always an adventure

Well Darren, exhaust is an acquired taste as each have their own approach to it. Take a few tips or examples and practice as each will give a different result.
A few I have tried, painting the exhaust a primer or dark color and then apply RUSTALL to the required result.
AND then I have used the salt technique where you paint the exhaust the color of the vehicle and allow to dry. Then lightly sand that area down and get it wet. Using Sea Salt get enough of the salt to stick, and then let it dry. Using the color of exhaust (some sort of light brown) lightly coat the area where the salt is. After allowing that paint to dry, carefully knock off the salt and the undercoat of the vehicles paint will show.
These are just a few of MY examples I have tried. Sometimes just a combination of each works too but the best way to find out is to experiment before working on your model.
Also, look here on ARMORAMA for the techniques to achieve those results you want.

Darren, I prefer a base color of Tamiya Hull Red XF-9. then I dry brush on graphite from a pencil. Finally I highlight by dry brushing a brighter aluminum shade the end of the exhaust.

Well, I usually giva a first coat of steel (Humbrol 27004) then give several layers of rust (either AK Rust streaks, pigments or Humbrol 113, or a combination of those, depends on the effect I want to create.)
Test it first on some bare plastic, old kit, since you can create different rust tones.

Howdy Darren:
I never paint the exhaust the same way. There always seems to be something new and cooler (no pun intended). My latest project is using Panzer Colors three exhaust colors. I also like using the Tamiya Red-Brown previously mentioned. Next I'll have to try that salt method.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Thanx everyone for the different methods on doing the exhaust. I have another question. Can I use decals from a scrapped Trumpeter build to put on the engine block?

Why not? It's added detail.

Looks like getting a replacement upper hull is going to take some time (5 days between replies from Dragon Care), so my Flakpanzer V Coelian won't be started until that mess is sorted out.

@Phil: coming along very nicely as always mate
@John: hi there, that build will be probably be finished in a couple of days, knowing the speed that you go at
@Gary: nice `n´clean as always dude, just how much mind power do you have? You can´t see a hint of glue anywhere
@Darren: like it, looks cool, the engine also. I also choose
Tamiya hull red as the base rust color, and work on it from there. I use enamels and ground up chalks, but never the same procedure.
Well here you go build side finished, base coat tomorrow:
