Im looking forward to reviews of this kit. But I thought prior to hearing any bad news regarding any issues. I would just do a simple OOB build of this kit.
It really is an easy build - and everything fits as it should. Nothing overly complicated with photo etch parts also.
the only area i may deviate is with the tracks - I have a set of masterclub whitemetal tracks with resin sprockets. Of course I need to see if they will fit with all the running gear.
painting may also just follow a simple 4bo scheme - but I would prefer something middle eastern !
best
Mark

Very nice build. Thanks for posting the photos.
Any thoughts on how you will paint it?

Looking good so far!
Seems to be a nice kit... except for the "not available" interior.

Good progress. Im watching this one closely, since I have this kit on the wish list. I had a lot of fun with a real BMP many years ago. I nerely knocked my teeth out with the butstock of a rifle when I foolishly tried to shoot from the small windows in the back while driving 40km/h in rough terrain

Very nice and clean build !
The only point I have is the flat exhaust while on the real thing there is a kind of lip all around. Not something difficult to fix though.
Can't wait to see it with some paint on.

Nice job so far, congrats indeed...I really can't wait to get mine!!
(and if I think that I went crazy to reprodece that turret and that gun on my Skif BMD-1P I really get upset!

)
(PS...modern Russian tanks aren't painted in 4bo Green. You meant "black green"

)
cheers

OHHH THE Pain the Pain

Many thanks Gents ! Olivier that exhaust seems an easy fix - Mauro many thanks for the photos to show me what i should do.
I also notice the kit does not contain a recovery wire - im going to have a hunt through the spares.
I will build up some masterclub track and see if it fits and compare to kit track.
Well the paint scheme - so i was browsing prime portal a nice and rusty East German museum piece. But im more swayed to middle east - looking at Iraq, Syria etc..
I will get an update this weekend - thanks again
best
Mark

The best thing about this Trumpy BMP is that it looks very 'crisp', which I think is the most important thing for a model kit, and it will look very good in a sand paint job, green will just make it look a bit drab and boring I think, sand will bring out all the nice hull detail.

I will trade you all of my BMP-1s, Esci and the coveted DMLs
for that single, started, Trumpeter Bimp1.
The detail on this kit is tremendous. Please keep posting
your progress.

Hey Mark
That worn sand yellow over green looks really interesting.
Better get out the hairspray and some mighty fine chipping brushes.
Keep the sand, and keep the detail, solid green cries out for heavy weather
Looking really good, keep it coming.

Hi Mark;
There are a few Good books on the BMP-1, Mr Zalogas Osprey publication has some nice Color plates, and the Wheels book was Superb as its mostly all in color. And has some Great color profiles at the end of the book.
Looking Forward to seeing MORE

Nice idea. As you can notice, the underneath layer was painted in green. The Iraqi applied the sand color over the Russian camo scheme. It would be nice to experiment the hairspray technique on it

Workin' on the review. Hope to submit it by weekends...er, end.

I will say that barring any newer, more accurate measurements, it looks like Trumpeter's BMP-1 is spot on for general dimensions. If anyone knows of the diameter of the turret, top and bottom, or any of the other details (hatches etc...) please let me know ASAP.
It is a FABULOUS kit.
And Mauro, 4BO forever!

According to Wydawnictwo Militaria # 312 "BMP-1", the turret is 8mm heigh and has a diameter of 42mm in 1/35.

Marc, where exactly is the information on this? I have the book but cannot find the measurements, or did you go off of the drawings?
